Most of the comments I got were about wearing the thrumb cap..... "are you having a bad hair day?" None of the rennies even knew what I was.... OH well...... I love thrum caps - they always get strange reactions. Mine is too hot to wear in the sun but I usually have it handy for rainy days. Mark This is exactly my point... I want people to ask what I'm wearing so I can school 'em. Working on a thum cap as we speak Anyone Going to queen bess?

Yeah well I wish more people were into Elizabethan piracy,,, the Renn faire community could use a healthy dose of PC maritime representation. Currently it's hardly measurable.

Queen Bess and the Pirates usually held in Mid-May in Bakerfield, CA : Elizabethan Era faire with emphasis on pirates and the role they played helping the English fight the Spanish. Was held may 16th and 17th last Year @ Sycamore Island in Madera/Fresno, CA Who plans on going? Who knows any new info? post away!

Good stuff guys.. good stuff. My persona is based in the 1740's so, alot of this would have taken place in the time of his father. I'm sure many of the scots involved in the 45 rebellion had not really experienced all of this first hand but had heard of the bitterness and heard the stories which possibly gave them the romanticized urge to fight that ultimately hopeless war. Maybe it was like a last charge to prove something to themselves. Who really knows eh? Why in the world would Scots move to Panama?? Thats like Penguins living in the Mojave desert. California is too much for my Irish blood... I wouldn't last one season in Panama

It is this simple.... people all over Europe had their individual reasons for being Jacobites. The reason MY PERSONA has chosen to be a Jacobite is simply because of the Anglish tyranny his family has experienced in the past. He feels Scotland has never had a chance at real freedom, and his father fought (and died) in the uprising of 1715 so... maybe his reasoning is less political than it is personal. Honestly this is way more in depth than I ever wanted to get into this conversation... I have read a few writings on Jacobitism and I'm not debating the history of it... I was simply speaking in the first-person-persona. No ill intentions toward any currently living Anglish Dogs

Well this is one pirate who will fight for the Stuart line again in '45.... 'Jacobitism' aside... I just hate the Anglish... Thats why I like these Yankees From my reading.... many people throughout Europe had Jacobite ideals although few of them acctualy acted on such ideals. It was kind of like the PUNK movement in the past 30+ years. There were the real 'hard-core' followers who felt that they should rebel and fight.... and it went all the way down to the people who just debated it and drank and sang songs to the cause. I'm sure many low level pirates were 'Jacobites' but Unless the whole crew wished to get involved, I'm sure most crews just stuck to robbing whoever they could.

Blarney.... Women wore staw hats... which was very much in fashion for a long time... Farmers, tradesman, slaves they all wore straw hats.. and I'm sure one or 2 got "cocked" at some point. Gotta leave some things to faith and common sense

And a Happy St. Patrick's day to you as well sir... Personaly I mourn the loss of the Pagan Gaelic culture, but I celebrate none-the-less. Remember the Wicker Man? Remember the Jumping over the fire scene?? Now add some fine Irish stout and some Irish Whiskey and you've got yerself a FINE PARTY! Way better than the way Catholics and Protestants celebrate. Like Moosey said.... it depends on yer character. Straw for warmer weather I would suppose. I wear straw simply because it's mighty warm here durring faire season. But you will catch me in a scots bonnet from time to time... which was also worn regularly.

Glenlivet is such an enigma! Don't get me wrong: it's a very pleasant enigma. In fact, after enjoying some of the 12yo earlier this evening, I am now relaxing with a dram or two of the 18yo. I find each of the Glenlivets to have such individual character that each must be appreciated as uniquely, not just as part of a spectrum. Much more so, say, than the difference found between the 10 and 15 year old Laphroaigs. Aye! An enigma well deserving further exploration! I think my favorite Glenlivet right now is The Nadurra 16yo cask strength. Aye Jack! The Lagavulin! One of my favorites from Islay! This bottle of Lagavalin has been giving me the eye for months now at the liquor store. Everytime I buy some New Belgium it looks at me like.. 'You wuss, take me!' hahahaha I will buy some around my bday I hope Hey... what happened to that chick we were talking to? hahahaha
