  1. Brass - AWESOME! YOu set the bar high for me for detail attention!
  2. 1581 Elizabethan Sailor's outfit from Mallia Davenport's Book of Costume - Thanks to Ashley Brower (thrum aka dead animal on my head) and Will Nash - (outfit aka PJs)
  3. Welcome Matthew! Mission - you said "Unit" I too have some "don't wear no mores" if you be my size - but then, we don't know your size... This is the place to get info - very knowledgable folks here, for the most part. If I can help you with armament or accessories let me know.
  4. WOW! Hook - that's one big project making a sail.... Gotta think how much time and money I want to spend as compared to being authentic. Wish there was a used 18th century sail store.....
  5. Thanks guys - so far so good. Keep the suggestions coming. Cross, I found the illustrations trolling the internet looking for information on sloop sails. Willie - you're welcome - it is a cool reference.
  6. Just found some good sail construction references. Any sail people out there know if this would be good for early 18th century? Sail construction and another More sails #2 From 1629 (not GAOP) but showing a make shift tent camp. 1629 shipwrecked
  7. I am going to begin a project to create a careening camp that is as realistic as I can make it - sail tied to trees, contents of ship under it.... Well, the sail will probably be canvas. This would be the camp of sailors careening their sloop. I would like to see any references that you might have on this type. I am particularly interested in what would have been taken off the ship (I have heard everything that wasn't nailed down) and what sorts of items would have been found under the sail cloth. Any references are appreciated. I am also interested on the size and shape of one of the smaller sails on a sloop. Captain Lowther's Careening Camp
  8. I have long been unhappy with tube socks that are supposed to be passable. My question, are they passable or completely wrong for 1600s - 1700s. I have turned up two extant examples that are radically different. They are sewn from fabric instead of knitted from yarn. Are we talking two actual types of stockings here or one correct and one incorrect? The other option could be that the pictures below are boot hose? I am confused and could use some more documentation / research. Below are the examples I found of mid and late 1600s stocking.
  9. Got a small 12" barrel blunderbuss in stock - it was a surprise!

  10. Pistol Pete - you are okay as long as it is a replica of or real thing from 1898 or prior.
  11. Thanks! Those are great! What is your usage requirements?
  12. Someone needed the "Searle's Raid Buccaneer Impression Recharge" this year..... Actually, most people are idiots (pub members aside). During Searles raid, I heard people chanting "USA USA USA" and was called "Ben Franklin" while wearing full collar of bandoliers and toting a matchlock musket (I wasn't wearing little round glasses nor flying a kite). Most American's have a small biased briefing on history and easily get bored with their short attention spans for anything more than a soundbite. It is our responsibility to, if nothing else, let them know that there is more to learn. Simple as that. Leave it to someone to learn or to not learn. I derive some weird pleasure in stumping people. But hey, I'm kinda odd like that.... Chin up Buccaneer! If you dressed like a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, everyone would know who you are and then you would be really miserable.
  13. Weather held off - great time as always kickin' Spanish booty!
  14. Fingers crossed - tent packed and last minute reservation at the HOJoes made.....
  15. Not really GAOP but..... Here is my 1660 - 1680ish kit inspired from a 1666 French Grenadier's kit. Made by Will Nash at Liam's Custom CLothing.
  16. I'm packed and ready! Be leaving around 4:00 tomorrow - be there around 7:30 PM. DId I just read Patrick hand is coming?! Make sure to put that Nocturnal Tourette Syndrom Sufferer far from me!
  17. Just bought four tankards at the S Army for $4.

  18. May I suggest a dog lock or even a late matchlock musket? Although a pistol works at Searkes they are a little out of place in a musket battle where the opposing force is at most times 50 a 70 yards away.
  19. A laid off English sailor who needs some $$$
