  1. At this moment, most of the cards are in. I am still waiting on Gertie's, but with international mail I expected that to take a bit longer, and then there is one other who got them sent a bit later... That I expect to show up at the same time as Gertie's.

So much for express mail. They told me 4 days.(after the Easter holiday)

My bad Gertie, I forgot to check the mail Friday, and they were in the box Saturday, so the timeestimate was accurate. And boy your cards are awesome! All of the cards I have looked at are great!!! (For the record the sneak peak is one of the reasons I am okay with being the cat-herder for these things!) :(

As soon as the last set rolls in Monday or Tuesday (or Wednesday at the latest), I will get them out.

Yay for Canada Post! I felt bad they were later going out (than others) because of me having to work that overtime! However, that overtime is paying for Nor Cal! Yay! So I sprang for Express post. And forgot my SASE etc. Too excited, I guess- it's been years since I last drew something of the magnitude of this project!I haven't done much since my car accident, so this was really therapy- and fun, all rolled into one!

And thanks for the compliment Michael- it was nice to find I still had some chops left!

  3. Thanks for the hotel info Ransom- I'm making my plans now- Nor Cal will be our big event this year! Possibly Portland in Sept.

And Eyes- it will be a pleasure to see you again, my brother!

  4. After almost two years (!) of procrastination I have finally added items to my Etsy shop.

    http://www.etsy.com/...lightlyobsessed

My focus is on the accessories & small details that finish off ones impression. Of course there is also always coffee available too  Be sure to watch the shop for other additions in the coming months.

    Thanks for looking.

    Chole

hi Chloe- I tried to buy the coffee- but it says you don't ship to Canada?

  5. Alright, working on mine. I was originally going to only do one design, but now I think I'll do more. Maybe not a full 10, but at least five. That way there will be 2 of every design.

So tell me, should we personalize these in some way? As in, putting our name or persona on them or something? Or are they really more about the artwork itself?

Mine are variations on a LOST theme.

    No personalization..

    just

    loooooosssssstttttttttttt

And- mine'll be a bit late- I thought I'd have 'em in the mail already, I had only a bit to finish- but got called into work- OT time and a half- gotta do it. Hopefully they'll be done and in the mail Monday- Tuesday at the latest!

  6. Oi- lookin' good, mate!

Nice change o' kit...fer them long and drawn out events.

But what about the sword? Where be the close up pics o' the sword???!!!

Happy natal day, lad- sorry I'm a bit slow on the upswing here...

    Come ta think-

I got ta figger out what I needs ta buy meself fer my birthday comin' up.

Ah wait- I finally got me a pair o' Fugawees. That'll do....that'll do...

  7. It's easier to come up with a single design and replicate that over the 10 cards. If you're really creative, you can come up with 10 different designs.

But most of all, have fun doing it.

    Hahar...

whoever said I EVER took the easy way, sirrah!

I do, however, like to have FUN.

  8. We are still a go, correct?

Yes, we are still a go... Everyone should make ten cards, and if we can't find two more folks to sign on in time, I'm sure I can find something to do with the extras... But if we can recruit hard over the next week or two to find another couple of participants, that would be ideal.

Guess I better get started then!

So- the central idea here is Lost? Okay...

  9. If you can, try and find someone the Warner Brothers collection on Laserdisc.

Many no longer available 'tunes and 'Melodies are available on that collection, and it is, as far as I know the only COMPLETE collection.

  10. Just to let you fellow pirates know how I have fared with Mr. Black Fox.

After PMing him here at the pub, and the numerous emails I sent, I emailed him one last time with the subject Gunpowder Gertie requires an answer.

well- I finally got one. Apparently all of the other PM's and emails did not meet the criteria he had established to answer back, but strangely, this one did. I'll point out that any PM from the pub, would of course include the name Gunpowder Gertie, but I digress...

    and finally- after all this.

Today I got a Paypal refund for 34.00 US.

Now, I would have been happy to receive the magazines, but apparently he decided to finally refund the money. After 2 years.

With NO apology. Even though he was proven wrong about the subscription, and his declarations to make it right, nope.

Just a refund and nothing else. No explanation, no apology, no communication of any kind with the refund.

I frankly don't get it. Deal with the complaint, talk to the customer, fix the problem. Good customer service right? But- no he would rather insult people, make enemies, tatter his own reputation, and ultimately refund money, rather than give the magazines that were ordered.

    Which- 'tis fine.

After all, I have subscribed to Pirates magazine, and expect a WHOLE different experience with them. I already have had excellent communication with them, actually.

so- finally a resolution to the great Pyrates Way mystery.

To others contemplating dealing with this man- beware. Expect insults, ignorance, and inexplicable behaviour.

  11. As for animation, if I recall the conversations from High School with a friend who was determined to be an animators, I think the lesser animation rate is 8 frames per second as opposed to the 24 frames per second used in the higher quality animations.

Ah..took me a bit long to reply, but as I may have been involved in animation as a perfession for some time, I can tell ya, that it depends on the medium as to which frame rate ya git.

so- ideally feature films are on 1's- which means that you make 24 drawings per frame of sec on film. Video is slightly different.

most higher quality animation is done on 2's..12 drawings per second.

Limited animation ie: Hanna Barbera cartoons is done on 4's or higher..and relies upon reused moving backgrounds ( think of the moving walls in the Flintstone house ), and also relies on copious use of separate levels of animation, where certain drawings are "held"- ie one drawing is shot over a specific time period, rather than being drawn over and over again. This is generally something like legs, or a body, or a face where the only movement might be an arm- or in a lip sync, mouth movements.

and then you have rotoscoping- some animation companies like to call it "heavily referencing". Thanks Ralph Bakshi! This is taking live action film, and essentially tracing it to get a more "realistic" movement, and to save time, but it is pretty obvious when it is used.

That's it, I now return y'all to yer regularly scheduled thread...

<insert Road Runner Meep meep, tongue flick, and zip here>

  12. Ahoy all- just saw this:

I hope tis in the right section!

Fortunately it looks like all were saved. Alas, one less tallship in the world!

    here's the scuttlebutt:

OTTAWA — A Canadian tall ship hosting high school students has sunk off the coast of Brazil, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed Friday morning, with media reports suggesting all 64 aboard had been rescued.

Brazilian search-and-rescue teams were searching for the passengers and crew the aboard West Island College Class Afloat ship, the SV Concordia, read a statement from Foreign Affairs.

"Canadian diplomatic personnel are currently liaising with respective Brazilian government partners to monitor and assist with the situation," said the statement.
