  1. Here is my lastest and greatest....and though this thread states..."You IN your garb" ...it is as close as I could get for now. The stays are the by the lovely hand of our very own Haunting Lily Alexander.

The mantua gown is cream silk with brown and green silk embroidery. Petticoat is also silk - goldenrod is the color.

Who needs an excuse to make cake?

...but if you need one, I know of an event coming up where there will be a lady who likes cake....

....... Lady Brower and i seem to be of a like mind, for i too know of and event comming up...with people...that like.....cake........im sure black john even likes cake...and bacon

I must confess my kit is presently gear for the 1720s but im gonna try and make an earlier version for buccaneering/filibustiering purposes. ...and though i may get a lot of story(i hope lol) i dare say i would like to hear how a your french partner dies, im still working out the details of my own persona, so anything would be of great help sir! Cheers!

  4. Taking an innocent statement made by an unsuspecting person and twisting it, to wring every bit of humor from it, and enjoying the laughter it evokes.

ALWAYS, doing it in a spirit of fun.

sshhaammee.......though it was quite funny......i should call you dirty sutler jim....

  5. Happy anniversary mate! May you never be released from your bonds....and remain a slave to the misses....forever lol

    BONDAGE! ALLLRIGHT!

    You lucky, lucky couple!

    Thanks fer the drink!

Throw the "safe word" out the window tonight!

But seriously ...... Congrats to you both!

Oh jim.....i hadnt even realized that could be taken that way LOLOL....*sigh OOOOO flowers too the misses, i believe hes on the right track!

  6. A hearty thank you Mr.Mooseworth, very helpful indeed, and new to my eyes! I just wish one of them showed why..... I asked one of the professors at William and Mary who specializes in 18th century history, and he couldnt ascertain why it was done(but he knew it was), he said hell get back to me lol.....

  7. Personally im making one thats not but a rectangle about 8x70 inches and roll hem the edges(yyesss Mr.Mooseworth sew it lol). Im a fan of lace at the ends(it so sporting on the good Captain!), though i probably wont wear one with lace anytime soon. Use a light weight linen, or silk. While we are on the subject of cravats, did the colors actually mean anything? and how common was it to find one in colors other than white, or black?

  8. dear me, there seem to a number of possible reasons(and alot of big hats! lol). I thank you guys for the photos, for i was really wondering if anyone else actually did it. hhuuuummm i think i might have to make a trip to colonial williamsburg, see what their historians have to say on the matter(youd be surprised how much they like to talk...or...mabey you wouldnt....)

  9. Has anyone else noticed that, in more than one period image, sailors are seen wearing their cocked hats backwards? At first i though it was just the way the are was drawn, but not that i look closer, it seems like they really are on the other way. Iv noticed especially in images slightly after our era(1730's-1800), but its shown in earlier pictures as well.85754800.jpg

In this picture(you all know what its of) 2 or3 sailors on the left seem to have their hats backwards.....

    88820253.jpg

    and this(1750's)

    88820579.jpg

    definitely apparent in this one(1760).......

After seeing these i still didnt quite believe it, bbuutt during a visit to colonial williamsburg, i looked at what they had on sailors. In an illustration in one of their books they clearly show a sailor with his hat the other way(form 1750's i think). And on top of that when i saw the sea rats atlantic this past april( i didnt notice then), i realize a few of them had their hats the other way too. has anyone else noticed/can give me information on this??

  10. I must say i find it quite encouraging to see mooseworth take the "make it yourself" route. There seems like a number of all of us newbies are all goin at the same rate in getting ready for the future(PiP) lol. This is like the third project that we both happen to be working on at the same time....which is good....so that i know im not crazy...unless we all are.................

  11. A fine job my good man! Very lovely, and quite inspiring. i must say this comes at a good time, for i was looking for a way to close my new waistcoat, but didnt want to buy a ton of pewter buttons(lol expensive to buy 30)

  12. I second Lady Browers inquiry, for i too am sewing my tarp together this weekend(what are the odds lol), and was also wondering about the eyelets. One other question though, is whats the most appropriate setup for a tarp(or sail if you will) i was gonna do something similar to a diamond tent, for it seemed the very simple and functional. Good choice, or bad?

Edit:good lord two answers poped up while i was posting LOL

  13. Funny! I've been making boxes for gear as well lately. I recognize the top one from Michael's - took a good look at that one myself and ended up making something similar out of cheap rough lumber. I'll have to get some pics.

    Good stuff.

So carrying over from the recent projects thread, I've been having much silly fun with boxes of late. I found a great resource for pine wine boxes from the local booze shop as well as Michael's and Hobby Lobby craft stores.

So today I finished up my by-level cargo box:

I've two more mine boxes to convert and a crate. Whoohoo!

then why not also share you new gear, it would be of great interest to me, because im doing the same lol and fine boxes there Capn' Mac , and i second the wood burning complements!

  14. Im going to this one for sure! Looks to be a smashing good time! are you guys camping out for this one(id like to know how quickly i should sew my tarp lol)?

  15. i swear...ssooo much drinking...thank the lord i be too young to drink.....for now lol Three cheers for the pub! though im new is still <3 you drunk buggars.......i fear soon ill be hearing the slurred chorus of "god save the king"..........
