  3. Mr.Bagley i have looked at the site(and the problems from the other buyers) and i would indeed be interested in acquiring his tent. if you could please pass on my contact information of Imagineer276@aol.com it would be greatly appreciated. Fair winds...

  4. thought they were more Dutch in origin?...or at least they had em too

Got this blank from a sutler down in PiP...just got to stiffin it up a bit first.

$20 vs $250...course some work would be involved

I agree with Dogge, a good stiff hat blank looks quite the nice, and does a great job at setting you apart from the cocked hatted crowd. Also, one option i took was to get a wide brimmed straw-hat. While (just like the honorable Capt. Sterlings) they are no good in wind, they are pc and not too popular at events(though i admitt they are more use if your not exactly trying to portray a working sailor).

.oh, and I might mention; that was just sewing a simple market wallet - can ye imagine what a whole garment may do t' me health????

Yeah... but ya gots ter start somewhere..... (besides...th' blood makes it more authentic..... )

I still say, learn how to sew, so you can make it yourself.... Hey... even if you mess up, you've learned something.... there is a learning curve to sewing.... but the more holes ye poke in yer fingers, sooner or later your learn...1. how to make stuff better.... 2. to stop poking holes in yer fingers (well attempt not to....It still happens....)

I'd also like to point out that I'm from th' Make it outta cotton first camp.... so ye knows what yer doing when ye use/buy th' good stuff...

Sure you have to do it twice.... but it almost always come out better with a bit of practice.... But you also have something to wear as you are making (or saving up the money for ) your good stuff.... If you have someone helping you, you can skip that step... but for most of us, it's a heckofalot cheaper making mistakes with cotton than with linen/hemp/wool, or your good fabric....

In my opinion thats VERY sound advice. Also surprisingly accurate to how it went for me too...........now that the sewing looks better(and happens alot faster) its alot cheaper to make things the yea olde fashioned way! But pleeasssseeee take Mr. Hands warning, try it all out of cheap fabric first! I have about $75 worth of linen waistcoat and breeches that are all but useless to me *tear

  7. Though not strictly a pirate event, i was wondering if anyone else was planning to attend, or if anyone has been before? Being in the hampton roads area, it seems shameful to pass it up. Plus, by the looks of it, it might be quite the multi-period educational odyssey( and a bit of fun to boot)!

  8. Crimson Corsair you post a vveerryyy convincing argument and its has worked(honestly i needed only a little convencing lol) i shall indeed attend, so long as i can get a hotel. i agree about the 2 night min though, i cant say i like staying and paying for 2 nights *sigh ...that pub crawl...sounds...aammaazzziinngggg

  9. Mr.Bagley is VERY correct in saying not to slash the holes first. My first few weskits look messy because i did just that. Another important thing is to make absolutely sure that your going each stitch the same length. I go a little farthere and not only draw ths slit, but the outline for the stitching as well. If all else fails you could whip-stitch the edges of your buttonholes to close them up some. best of luck!

  10. First off good day to you all, im a LONG time lurker...anytime you saw guest at the bottom....that was me lol. As for skull and crossbones i agree with the split between hollywoods sort of real, and pure fantasy. If your going for fantasy by all means have skulls coming out of your ears. For Hollywood and even more Period accurate endeavors, mabey a few to drive the point home if you really want to. Personally for accuracy iv always thought, these are wanted men, i dont think they'd wave a symbol of pyracy about on their person(whether they actually had the S&C or not). BUUUTT at the end of the day,you have to be happy. As an idea, have you ever thought of just making your own symbol like a family crest or a seal? You could at least put it on your personal items and maybe seal a letter or two. just an idea love, fair winds to your sails!
