rootbeard
Aye, but you get what you pay for, and these guys make some excellent beautiful stuff. Granted I will have to save for the Capitaine coat (too bad christmas is already past) but I did get their Calico Jack shirt, an was very pleased. I think I will order one of those hats though.. they seem a fair price.. tough to find good pirate hats that are not cheap or goofy costumes. HarborMaster
Personally I only wear leather hats., I am very satisfied with what I recieved from http://www.excaliburleather.com/catalog/tr...tricornhat.html they show a brown hat but I chose Black..., yea its a winner.., as for Carlisles., you bet !! excellant however the sparrow coat is considerabley weak on the cuffs..., A pirate needs oversized cuffs., at least this one does., I had my coat custom made., ever buy something that fits nice then it shrinks?., Bummer or fades or needs dry cleaned., yea ., bummer I contacted the LoftyDragon., about these problems and she say watcha want., I told her I am a plumber Dickies work clothes dont shrink tear or fade! and last me years in clothing beating situations., I WANT A WORKING MANS PIRATE COAT., She built it., Black Brass Huge cuffs., and from dickies type material.,This gal is super., My coat is differant than her web site shows., but here is the loftys link http://www.loftydragon.com/ And for Boots., this is my favorite http://caboots.zoovy.com/category/mp/ Custom made just for you!!!., A well dressed Pirate is a Happy Pirate...., Arrrrrrgh! rootbeard
Harbormaster: I do like those leather hats.. you showed a bit more than what I was wanting to spend.. but leather looks great and lasts.. rain or wind :) You link to the loftdragon didn't work. Have they gone away? I think the $600 bones for the captian coat is a bit steap, but looking at it I can imagine how much time and material goes into it.. must not be cheap for them to make .. I still want ONE! Misery: maybe you can have one of your family members make me one?? :) safe me some money? and you are looking to have seamstresses in the family. Well if anything Carlisles provided good service to me, and I really have not found many sites like this one, or carries the high quality. I have found plenty mom and pop places that most the pirate stuff looks cheap and laughable.., and I can't sew
Anne Bonny
HarborMaster, did you order the suede black or the top grain black Sparrow Tricorn? I have been interested in buying for awhile but I wasn't sure about the other colors.
Rumba Rue
I agree the prices are steep. I saw a beautiful coat at a Ren-faire last year for $500.00 that was ten times done better. One of the things I have discovered to my discontent, is waaaay too many vendors are selling costumes with material that hasn't been washed! I came across at least 5 vendors at the San Diego Ren-faire doing this. I was totally disgusted by one vendor selling mens clothing for very expensive cash. When I asked her if the material had been washed before making the items, she rudely told me that it was impossible to was yards and yards of material. Well I got news for her and anyone else, WASH THE MATERIAL BEFORE BEING MADE INTO A COSTUME!! Unless it's a tapestry or other dry cleaning material, anything else should be washed so that shrinkage won't occur later and any 'shiny finishing' on the material is toned down. rootbeard
Hey Rumba, if you saw a coat like this one for only $500 I would love to see it! You got a website? 10X better you say? Wow.. Hey I am all for a better price, but it sure sounds unlikely... I don't buy cheap costumes. did you guys EVEN see the detail pics of this coat? COAT DETAIL PICS 10x BETTER HE SAYS LOL ... now that I want to see!! and I hear you on the shrinkage thing.. never had a problem with it myself, but I guess it depends on who you buy from, and the price you pay. TabithaAnne
Their jackets look much better than a lot of the stuff I have seen. I easily put $600.00 of work into my own coat. Of course most of the money is in labor, but.....With the trim and everything else that goes into it that price does seem pretty fair. It all depends on what you are looking for, $500.00 for a coat without the embroidery and without some of the fancies sounds like a reasonable price as well. And it's true; you get what you pay for. If you look for the cheapest price you are going to get the cheapest product, that's one of the reasons I started sewing. It's highway robbery what some people charge for REALLY badly made stuff. When I sew for someone I make sure that it would be a garment that I would be proud to wear and something that is going to last and also a fair price. TabithaAnne
And if you are looking into someone making you something make sure you have LOTS of communication and they know EXACTLY what you want. And that you have a price ahead of time......saves everyone a lot of angst. HarborMaster
No.., no Lofty's coat is not 600.., its 275.00 sorry for the mistake., yes her website is down at the moment., but ut will be back up at that address., My coat was altered for me *cuffs and GORE in the tail normally they are 225. As for the tricorn., I chose excalibers., smooth grain leather., not a suede. I currently live in Washington State., it rains here alot., suede wouldnt hold up..., I did not go for alot of frills., I will retire in the Philippines in 5 years.., there are no dry cleaners., I tried to build a basic black (Longtime Outfit) heavy duty with minimal care that can get wet and take daily abuse and years of it., I think I got it. My wardrobe at retirement will pirate everyday so it has to hold up., I just purchased a dress coat for 200 thru ebay., and the seller is working with me on my custom changes., a blue velvet thats machine washable., this should take a month to complete and I will post photos and the link when I see how she does., Sorry for not posting for a while mates. Nigel YOR PHOTO'S ., COAT AND HAT ., ARE AWESOME !!!.,Our Hats are similar., You look sharp .,ready to kick some arse an take some names., actually Give some orders!!., HarborMaster I am not Lost .,I am Exploring. Now, now... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I would say most here are not blind and did see the details of the coat. What you see as wonderful, other may be unimpressed with. (shrug) It's simply a matter of preference so thar be no need to take offence. And... true enough, there were coats to rival this one at a few faires last season. I saw several. I however did not check prices except for one that was going for $585.00, since I was not in the market for one... finding thievery MUCH more to m'likeing! So, I'm just sayiong keep a weatehr eye out this season and you just may find such a coat. Now.... quality hats, there is something worth scrounging for! TabithaAnne
Ok, not everyone may be impressed by my work, BUT I am damn proud of the get up I made for my sweetie. He's the one on the right hand side of the picture. It was supposed to be a Jack Sparrow (ok so I'll admit it I find Johnny Depp REALLY sexy as a pirate ) costume but ended up being a lot less detailed than I had hoped.
