I didn't want to start a new thread..... but I'm in the process of making a machetti (I couldn't find one that didn't have the manufacuters name stamped on the blade....) Once I have the blade shaped, I'm planning on anealing it (heating it red hot, and then burrying in in ashes to slowly cool) to temper the blade, I then will heat it red hot again, and then quench just the cutting edge, and then watch untill the edge turns a "peacock" blue and then quench the entire blade.... Now my question.... after anealing and tempering, will the blade "flex" or will it bend ? I don't have any idea where to find this out......

I recieved my Queen Anne Pistol kit from Dixie Gun Works a couple days ago. The kit was very easy, I only had to do minor work to the stock to get it to fit right. It was so easy in fact, I had the stock re-shaped, sanded, and the piece assembled in about 2 hours. Now I hate the "off the shelf" look of new items, so I usually add a personal touch to my garb/weapons. Since I am a captain, I decided to make my personal touches worthy of a successful captain's weapon. (If he were to actually have one custom made, I know in period that didn't happen alot) I also test fired it... it took a couple tries to get the flint set at the right angle to spark, but once it was right, …

The wee pirate in our crew just picked a pair of these up for $30 (roughly) and they made a great addition to her garb for the cost. They are from Payless and come in a tan as well. Just thought I'd share :) Kat

I purchased a deck cannon 2 years ago from a prop house in Hollywood that had built 20 or so of them for the " Hook" movie. After going through several statue manufacturers, I found one that has cast a mold of the cannon for me that is top notch. The cannon barrel is fiberglass ( much lighter than the real thing) and can be rigged to fire special effects from it. The original's carriage is made from oak, but I had the company cast it in fiberglass as well. I am ready to start production on them with an order of 10 barrels, and I am wondering if there are a few interested in purchasing them. I'm looking to get $ 250 for a barrel or $750 for both barrel and carriage. Pictur…

For anyone who has ever lusted after a ring like the one Captain Jack Sparrow wears in Pirates of the Caribbean here is your chance. I had one commissioned from Joseph Dean Creative Design/JoeBarb JewelryArt and it is absolutely perfect. It is made of sterling silver with a green glass stone, but they can customize it with other metals or colors if you like the design but want to add your own personal flare. The ring features a skull and cutlass crossbones like the Jack Rackham flag on four sides. Here are photos of my ring. If you would like to have one made for yourself, contact Joe & Barbara at DEAN2000@peoplepc.com or visit their website: http://pages.zdnet.c…

Okay, so this stuff might, unfortunately, give you a clearer idea of just what sort of pyrate i am. You may or may not consider any of these items piratey, but they are all very very nice, and i very very much need the money, to finance my trip to play at being a pyrate at Pennsic next week (i'll be sure to post pictures). Thanks in advance for your support! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 By the way, i soooooooo much don't want to sell the boots, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do...

Well I finally got around to sewing up my sash (red silk), all except one end. It suddenly occured to me that I don't know how much length I want hanging down from the 'knot', and that I'd better figure that out before I finish it. Any suggestions? Is knee length about right? Shorter? Longer? With PA Faire season starting in 9 days, this of course has become a question of epic proportions. TIA.

As long as i'm going to start work on a new tricorn for myself, i'd like to make one for each of my two daughters as well (ages 7 and 4 1/2 years old). Yes, of course, they already have their own pirate hats. But i think it's time they have something a little nicer. Plus, if i'm going through the trouble of that whole "tar-pitch" thing with one hat, i might as well do it for three. Does anyone know if there are sources out there for child-size hat blanks? Thanks in advance! - Weasel

Having made a couple of tricorns from blanks, which I trimmed with 'glued' on mettalic braid, I want to try something a little more challenging, like sewing on a fabric 'ribbon' trim. So the question is... what kind of material would be suitable, and how should I go about sewing it? Do you sew it on before or after steaming and tacking the sides? And do you fold it over the edge of the brim and sew it to both sides, or just sew it flat on the 'outside' side? Also, hand or machine, and what kind of stitch? TIA!

Ahoy shipmates... My group often talks about buying fencing equipment and having after hours no-holds barred fighting competitions. I'm inclined to agree with them. My questions to those in the know: What do you find to be the safest yet most accurate blades? What do you recommend for masks? Where do you buy them? Again, as I've said, on our mail list we've talked about the ins and outs of this before. Before I lay any money down, I'm looking for even more opinions. Thanks!

I have a capped pipe that I picked up at a local smoke shop, but haven't seen one since. I was wonderin' if anyone knows of an online source ta get one. Nothin' fancy, just an apple bowl with a straight or bent stem. Not a garante or whatever the ones are called with the long stem that goes straight down from the mouthpiece to the bowl. I'd actually fancy carvin' me own, but any help would be appreciated.

I'm going to make some for my fiancee (and later myself). He wants something "poofy" that can by tucked into the top of his boots. This material looked promising: http://www.fabrics-store.com/first.php?got...f&fabric_id=103 Pattern recommendations? There this simple one for early 1600's: http://reddawn.net/costume/breeches.htm What sort, if any, changes would need to be made to it? Should I use something else entirely?
