I wasn't sure if the 1742 British Infantry Sword like the ones sold through Dixie Gun Works etc... had screw on pommel or not, GoF sent me one that he had, so I'm in the process of turning it into a more period correct Hunting Sword / cutlass.... The good news... the blade is peaned to the pommel... I hacksawed the end off, and took off the entire hilt. This photo shows the sword dissassembled, and the tang (note: I covered the all brass grip with some black leather for Ojai.... all that brass looked slightly fake, so I wanted to "tone it down".....) Below is the antler that I will fit as a grip, and the pattern for the knuckle bow. I will be cutting some of the tang…

Ahoy All, While cleaning out some storage, I came upon an old axe I bought 20 years ago. Was told at the time the axe head was found in the attic of an old house in Maine. Seems to be the shape of a French Boarding Axe and its stamped E. LEBORGNE with a Falchion Sword stamped below the name. Searching about I found that Emanuel Leborgne was a French merchant outfitting ships out of Canada and was Governor of Arcadia, but in the mid 1600s. Is it possible my axe is 350 years old? Hope the pics links come thru http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa305/b...de/DSCN1973.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa305/b...de/DSCN1967.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/…

Shiver me timbers, I just bought some replica pistols for me and me crew on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Replica-Pirate-Flintlo...1QQcmdZViewItem I realize that they are not historically accurate since they are non functioning replicas so I don't need to use what was used in the period, although I could. But I wanted to put something on the wood to protect it and give it a little more shine. Would you recommend something like mineral oil, I already have some that I use for my cutting boards, or should I use varnish. The oil would be the easiest. Anyone have any recomendations

I recently ordered some Lego pirate toys to keep my brothers occupied when they visit (yes, they're older, woo is me ) and today the postlady showed up at my door with this big box :) I could just show you one picture, but my cat (the one some of you might remember wearing a miniature tricorn) decided he wanted in on the action :) So without much further ado: lego pirate toys fun ^^ Merlijn inspecting the goods: Merlijn going for the cutlass. Thankfully it was too big for him or he might have gone off with it. Yes, my cat often behaves like a dog (he can give paws and bring things back that you throw away, just like a doggie) Merlijn stole one of the "bom…

Hey all, so I'm finally getting my swag together! Now that I can afford it. Now I don't want to be a pretty boy pirate, I'm going for fear here. I want to care around 10 pistols on my person, a few on the side but I want my main display to be a belt going over my chest area that holds around 5-6 pistols. I'm thinking I can make this by sewing leather holsters onto it but if I can find one already made it would make things so much easier.

I saw them, thought of miniature cannons, drooled more, and then the price seared my retinas...and my heart... they are at http://www.rchobby.co.uk/radio_controlled_...l_sailing_.html Now I shall return to seclusion, and lurk for a while. I think.

I cruised through HildeKitten's pictures on her site and came across a really cool material source. The pirate prints are really great and would make for good regular clothing or gifts of some sort. Check this out all, great stuff for creative minds! Equilter

I made my own pirate outfit from a pattern from the fabric store. I also made the shirt. For this years trip to Catalina I'll be making the pants. I'm thinking of adding a little more trim on the front. maybe a brocade lapel, you can see in one of the photos I do have some gold trim on the front. I'm not necesarily looking for strict historical accuracy. I think I also need to shorten the jacket also. I might want to use additional material to stiffen up the hat, maybe some stiff felt. I used wire sewn into the brim to keep it in place I figured that this is the place to find the experts so I thought I'd see what you think. I'm new to using hosted photo sites so hopef…

Alright, my first post here (Breathe...try not to be nervous... just picture everyone here in their underwear... ok, that yielded mixed results...) While money is currently short, I don't anticipate that situation lasting too much longer. Therefore I'm starting my search now. Like the topic title/description says I'm looking for a double-breasted vest not unlike the one that Tim Curry wore as Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island while he was acting as ship's cook. It looks a lot like a Union or Confederate officer's jacket, minus the sleeves, so if all else fails, a pattern for one of those could be useful. Still, if someone is actually selling a similar ves…
