About a year ago I started a thread here that was nothing more than a list of swords that fit our genre/period. I did it because at the time I had conducted a search of my own for just the right cutlass and it seemed I had compiled plenty of sword links. Well I’ve now committed to my first swordsmith and I hope to receive my blade sometime this summer. From time to time, there are questions about traveling with black powder weapons. A couple of things to keep in mind about the following information is that generally, if it LOOKS like a gun, the authorities consider it to be a gun, therefore non-firing replicas get treated the same as real weapons. You don't want to try to explain to a non-knowledgeable gate agent what the difference is !! The other thing to understand is that the following information is correct AS OF THE TIME OF POSTING. I made this one a while back and took pictures of the build pictures . . . First was deciding what to build, I found this original lock that needed minor repair and being a Spanish lock the build of the gun followed. The next was to come up with a stock so a sketch on acad printed up to scale on multiple pages Now knowing size I could begin on the barrel starting with a piece of solid stock. Checking the barrel with the lock the next is to cut out the stock. Power tools can hog out a good portion but once you get close it needs to be done by hand. …

I starte work on this new piece and as you can see it is still a work in progress but I thought you would like to see regardless. It is a Spanish circa early 1700 when Spain began adopting the french style lock (the unbridled frizen and miquelet style cock date it as an early version of what would become common) this would have been built for a wealthy nobleman, someone travelling to the new world or returning overseeing the shipment of his property. Such a weapon if seized by pirates would have been selected by someone of high rank upon division of the prize. So, i have two hand forged knives that were part of my "kit" years ago. In trying to put whole knew set of gear together they have surfaced out of the storage bin the have been in for over a decade and they are in need of some love. They are both hand forged. One is a small hook shaped knife, (i believe stainless) with antler handle. This one has minimal tarnish. The other is twist handle single piece knife, forged out of an old railroad spike. This one is....worse for the neglect. I just want to introduce myself as a new moderator to the Armoury. As MadPete (Peter Chaaps), I've been on the pub and in the pirate world since 2009. You may know me from the Fort Taylor Pirate Invasion, Searles, Ojai, Dana Point, Utah Pirate Invasion, Long Beach, or Put In Bay. Prior to my turning Pirate, I was heavily involved in American Civil War artillery groups, American War for Independence, and general black powder shooting. There are some big shoes to fill here as moderator with the passing of Cascabel. I only hope I can do a satisfactory job... In my Trade Thread POD offered to trade me two custom sword belts for a Boucan Knife and this is what I came up with. We also took a pattern and put it into our production line on a bit longer blade. We are calling it our Caribbean. Look for that soon. I already made 2 of them for a stage combat show in Jersey. I think it turned out well. The production version flares a bit more towards the end to make it a bit nicer fit to the tang. This is a nice and simple design that allows us to keep the peice down.

I know there've been quite a number of topics about various swords on the market, but nothing with really good reviews for those of us searching for a period (or almost period) weapon. Just arrived in yesterday's mail - a wee pop-gun to arm the bow of my boat (see: https://pyracy.com/index.php/topic/19378-soon-to-be-afloat/). 15" barrel, .75 caliber bore (stainless steel lined), weighs about 13 lbs. Hey, a friend just had the mainspring on his Pedersoli Queen Anne Pistol go out.... So far google has not been kind to me. Does anyone know of a source for replacement parts? Track of the Wolf only seem to have the replacement mainsprings for the Pedersoli Bess's, and I am unsure if any of the springs sold by L&R, RE Davis, or Dixie Gun works will fit as a substitute. I figure with the way this model of pistol proliferates the pirate reenactment community, someone here has to have experienced this problem in the past and can offer some good advice to pass onto my friend. sometimes ideas just pop into my head and one of them just did...... I have two Traditions PA Pellet Flintlocks with nylon stocks, I use them for muzzle loader deer season here in NY. My thought was to try to make them look more period by constructing a new wooden stock for one of them.
