Just what's involved in building a blunderbuss

I made this one a while back and took pictures of the build pictures . . .

 

First was deciding what to build, I found this original lock that needed minor repair and being a Spanish lock the build of the gun followed.

The next was to come up with a stock so a sketch on acad printed up to scale on multiple pages

Now knowing size I could begin on the barrel starting with a piece of solid stock.

Checking the barrel with the lock the next is to cut out the stock.

Power tools can hog out a good portion but once you get close it needs to be done by hand.

Then there is the hardware, typical I work with castings from the rifle shoppe.

Although I often will make from scratch as well.

Once you have all the parts it's just the hours spent to get them all to fit right. . .

All assembled and given a patina to match the original lock
