This is always fun... Perhaps it's been done... but... Let's make up some pirate limericks! They can make since, or not, who cares, it's fun... let's play! There was an old pirate from tortuga He ate sea turtles and beluga He preferred to drink rum But he couldn't find some So he settled for wine from Chattanooga. There was a young pirate in trouble He always smelled like a soap bubble So he rolled in dead fish And on a star made a wish And now looks like Barney Rubble. There was a big ship on the sea Captained by a pirate named Smee He got sick of Hook And decided to book To live a life fancy and free There was a young wench from Peru Who want…

Ahoy All, I come to you seeking aid. I'm working up a new show and want to include a bit about Brass Monkeys. I know the basic information about where and when the term came into being. That's not what I'm asking about. A couple of years back, I chanced upon a website with an interesting take on the subject. It was pruely fun, but fun I want to use. The person or persons behind this website had come up with or were retelling a myth that at one point there were monkeys that had a brass coloring to their fur, hence the name Brass Monkey. Now, if memory serves, these monkeys were supposed to be very smart and highly sought after for ship mascots. The probelm came from the…

The Finn brothers and I were hoisting a pint or 12 last night. We heard a commotion outside and saw Ray had some o' the lads restocking the cellar. We snuck in behind them and found this: Ray did catch us though. The only way he'd not tell the local constabulary is if we can pack the pub today. So, come in and hoist a pint and tell us what your drinking to today....It's Friday!!!!!! Here's to Friday and another faire weekend!

Sorry all ye lonely lasses, I recently asked my love to marry me and she said yes. I didn't even have to pour rum down her throat first! I guess that means more for the celebration. Maybe the two gold plated deringers and shiny rock on a piece of metal overcame her senses. She loves plunder as much as me. The 'big day' is probably about a year or so off, but more details will follow to those who would like them. It'll probably be in either WA or CT, but a lot of that depends on where I get stationed next as well. So, drink up! Coastie

When you fill in your bio with your birthday, it will automatically show up on your birthdate. (Don't know how to get to your bio? Just click on the above that says, My Controls-I might add this is a great way to get to know people- that is if they've put anything in their bios) We'd all love to say 'Happy Birthday' to many, but lots of times we just don't know who you are. Meaning, that unless you are a regular poster, it goes over the side of the ship into the deep sea. So if you want to be recognized don't be afraid to jump right in and yak with the rest of us about whatever the topic is. Cheers!

Ok all you pirates. As I am new to these waters I am hoping for some help. I am looking for pirate related web sites. There are just too many on google to wade through. I am looking for loot, reenacting, ships, history, and just about anything. Care to help someone with a few new charts for these waters?

Being the instigator that I am (can't help it . . . Pirate) I thought this to be just as good a time as any to discuss some of me observations. There are in fact two types of pirates. 1. Historical re-enactors 2. interpretive actors (oh and apparently very real Pirates- keep reading) added later Based on what I see most fall in the middle but leaning more tword intepretive actors. I find historical re-enactors to be more vocal and certainly more anal when it comes to the fine details of the genre. we as a pirate community need to get to a happy place of co-existance between both types. There is plenty of room and each provides a different service if-you-will to…

Ok I have recently learned the why's and why not's, so let me explain and I'd like to hear what you all have to say. Most pirate type groups out there do not have any insurance. They usually have some kind of barrier around their camps to keep the public out. When you have weapons displayed and personal belongings, you don't want the public to access that. There's lots of stupid people out there. But with Pirates of Treasure Cove, we have insurance. The reason why is because we have an open camp, no barriers. We invite people to come in. We do have weapons about and we do our darndest to keep people from pulling swords out of the scabbards. Instead, a member will do it…

Many of you have said you found the Pub via other links. I'm curious as to what links on what sites you found us.

I started getting into pyracy about a year ago. All I wanted at the time was a costume, but then I found the Pyracy Pub. All of a sudden I find that having a costume isn't enough. You've gotta have a pirate name, a persona and a fictional background. You've also got to be able to act (or reenact) like a pro, but I'm not a pro (I'm just barely an am). My question is, now that I look the part (even if it looks like a part in a Gilbert & Sullivan play) how do I do all the rest? Unlike Tall Mike Bismuth van der Bulge (cool name, BTW), I picked my name almost at random. This wasn't because I didn't care, but because I wanted to start participating as soon as possible. Hop…

Hi! I'm new here. My name is Renate. I'm 19 years old. I'm from the Netherlands. I'm a re-enacter of the Napoleonic period, I love to write (poetry, songs, stories) and I'm into medieval roleplaying. I love pirates of course. I'm a bit of a tomboy myself and I dressed up as a pirate a while ago (although I have no idea where I saved those pics). I'm piratescave her daughter (she gave me the link and I thought it looked interesting so I registered). So I also help out with the website in my spare time (link is in my profile). I don't know what else to say except: Yo ho! Yo ho! A pirate's life for me! Pirate Power! From Holland with Love, Renate

Hopefully someone here can answer this question that just popped into my head the other day... Does anyone either KNOW or can figure out a way to ESTIMATE how many people are re-enactors AND fantasy pyrates? Failing any firm numbers, I'd be happy to entertain guesses! I'm primarily interested in world-wide numbers, but one country at a time is fine (given the location and membership of this board (just shy of 3,000 - WOW!), I'd expect the most guesses / facts for the US, but I AM very interested in global figures. Thanks for any and all comments / ideas.

In the Pyrates in Paradise thread a discussion came up about Pyracy and Children. One person said that he doesn't enjoy playing the "aaargh" entertaining kind of Pyrate, (He didn't say that he Hates children, he just will deal with them on his own terms) Other Pyrates thought this was a terrible thing. Children are our future. We gotta play along with them.. The Pyrate that doesn't enjoy the "aaaargh" entertaining bit, I'd bet if a child came up to him, and asked and intelligent question, That child would get an intelligent answer. So we all "play" slightly different. Now I kinda fall someplace about halfway between. My girlfriend loves to give out Pyrate kisses (made …

So ya be wanting to know just how the ranking at Pyracy Pub works and what ship duties need to be done ta rise in rank. Well basically, all one has to do is post messages to the forums. The ranking system be a sort of message post counter, the more messages a shipmate posts the higher up in rank said shipmate climbs. Here be the secret formula for figuring out such things, liberated from a previous message posted by the Commodore, BloodyBuckets and reposted here. Bilge Rat 0 posts Deck Swabber 20 posts Deck Hand 50 posts Ship's Master 100 posts First Mate 200 posts Plunderer 300 posts Pyrate Captain 500 posts Notorious Pyrate 750 posts Dr…

I am also going to buy their rudder hardware but make my own sail since they only make blue and white(im gunna do black) Here are some pics of the kit done So has anyone ever attempted this? Im a bit worried about the fiberglassing for waterproofing part the rest I think I should be ok with. Has anyone ever fiberglassed something like this that could shoot me some pointers? Also, does anyone know where I can get old hooks and stuff that look like they are from the piratical times? I plan to paint it a wooden color(preferably fi…

Starved for pirate music? Then log on to YarRadio on Sunday mornings 9-noon pacific, 11-2 central, to hear yours truly spinning pirate tunes on the virtual air! YarRadio is the official radio station for the upcoming Pirates of the Burning Sea. Much of the station format revolves around modern and alternative rock, but my own show will be all about the pirate. I will mainly stick to the non-traditional sort of music - Pirate Jenny, Ben Gunn Society, Sforzando, Toucan Pirates, etc, although I'm certain a traditional shanty or two will find its way to me now and then. I'm really excited about this opportunity. Wish me luck and be sure to tune in! Yarrr!!!

Greetings. I'm the new pyracy admin. I work with/for BloodyBuckets as my actual job, and he's asked me to come aboard and help him out. You probably won't find me hanging out and posting socially all that often. I'm here to assist with things like subscription validation, forum structure (you may have noticed some threads moved and a new mod added), and behind the scenes tech stuff. So, right. Ahoy! You're an interesting lot, and I'm glad to help.

Over in the plunder forum there is a post by someone offering up for sail some great knotwork (check it out_ which got me thinking about handicrafts in general. I'm looking for pictures or descriptions of nautical projects people have tackled. Costumes are great but that's not what I had in mind for this thread. Barrels, Sea Chests, Cat-O-Nine-Tails, Seam Rubbers, Coins, Jewelry, Scabbards, Weapons, Scrimshaw (not to period but to 'ell with it), Pipes, Merrels Boards, or anything else you might have fashioned, show us what you've done. Alas, I personally only have some knotwork to my name and that vast bulk of that has been given away but I'm sure some of you out ther…
