The situation in Somalia is not unlike that in the Caribbean in the second half of the seventeenth century. As most of you know, piracy in the Caribbean had swelled to the point that the European governments effectively threw up their hands and adopted a policy of “if-you-can’t-beat-’em-join-’em.” Pirates were designated “privateers” when they bought or were otherwise granted a “letter of marque and reprisal” by their own governments. These were essentially licenses to prey upon the ships of nations with whom the issuing nation was at war, which, often as not in those days, was just about everybody. Somalia is similarly unable to stop the pirates, NATO help notwithstand…

Well met, I'm the one called Hellfire Hannah. I was given my name by a fellow pirate at the Minnesota Renaisance Festival last year & I've kept it because I think it fits. I actually stumbled across this place quite by accident and I'm thinking I might just stay awhile and make new friends. I happened to notice a few familiar names and faces from www.renaissancefestival.com and I'm pleasantly surprised. With that being said I hope I can use this site for fun and maybe some learning and character development ideas as well. Hellfire Hannah

I been sick! Sick in bed, and not in any fun way! Happened right after the first snow of the season in these parts...which must mean I'm becoming allergic to The Evil (I rarely use the vile S--W word itself). But as someone in a movie somewhere once said, "I'm getting better..." What made it worse was that anytime I asked a doctor about leeches or fleams, they would just give me strange looks. I tell ye, mateys, medical science these days do not fill my wi' confidence...

Greetings all, I couldn't remember if we'd ever discussed doing our gift exchange this year or not before the old pub crashed. So, nosy pirates are wondering .... are we doing the Secret Santa Gift Exchange this year? If so, count me in to participate! Rumba and GoF - are you all still running it? Just curious... Emerald

I just realized I never introduced me'self. 'Tis a good thing I never claimed t' have manners! My name is Jessica, but ye can call me Red or RedJessi, as it matches both hair and general disposition. I'm new to the activity of piratin' but have long been fascinated by the stories (honestly, since I was a wee lass and learned the history of Florida- my native state - what with Ponce de Leon, Black Caesar, Sir John Hawkins and the like). I am also finishing up my graduate degree - after a decade as a graphic designer, I finally went back to school. Come December, I will earn my masters in social work, as another interest of mine is social science and psychology. Other hob…

Ahoy there everyone! I be a new swabbie here, and looking fer some pirate companionship that I can never seem to find. I'm fifteen years old, living in Sunnyvale, CA. I've been into pirates for roughly a year and a half, and I've amassed a small collection of pirate equipment, including a naval cutlass, flintlock pistol, two compasses, a spyglass, and a fully-fledged pirate outfit. I am a member of Sea Scouts, a youth boating program. We own and operate a 95-foot coast guard cutter, the SSS Challenger. In addition, believe it or not, I found out from my aunt, a genealogist, that I am descended from a French privateer, Francis LeBaron. Thus, I derived my alias, Bartholome…

I am not exactly new. I was Jean Lafoot, but now I have taken the name Jony Winter (a much more piratey name). I left for awhile to other ports, but now I hope to stay. Right now I have my own blog at churchofljs.blogspot.com (Church of Long John Silver) where I attempt to apply the wisdom of Long John Silver, primarily from Treasure Island and Return to Treasure Island. Oh, to be a financial pirate! But lets not forget the real reason for being a pirate ... to lay on the beach and drink rum. Armen
