So as I ahve mentioned on my maiden thread, I am tryin to put together a once-a-month pirate gatherin here in Eureka Springs at a local tavern. It's an Irish pub, but I figure, drunken irish, drunken pirates... it's all good ! I was thinkin about having pirate music of some kind palyin in the background while we have short 10 minute "seminars" on how to talk like a pirate... how to dress like a pirate (findin stuff on ebay and the like) ... learnin a few pirate songs perhaps... oh... and of course DRINKIN SOME RUM ! I want this to be fun for everyone, but not too boring or too childish ifin ye know what I mean. What kind of ADULT entertainment can we have .... short…

Avast ye crewmen and crew-wimmins ! I be a land-locked scurge from a little hamlet in the northwest of Arkansas. The natives call it Eureka Springs, fer the healin waters found here. Ya see, it was presumed that Ponce De Leon (p'tew) had gotten lost on his voyages and upon reaching Floriduh, gave up and said "screw it, this be the place, er, yeah, right"... whenin all actuallity, had he asked the right person for directions and a decent map, (or perhaps a compass that worked rightly) he would have found his way to the mountains here and discovered what some scallawag fur-trappers found... and of course later stole from the natives and profited greatly. Must've been a l…

Just a shout out t' any MySpacers that be wonder'n why I am not respond'n t' their e-mails or approving any photo comments or new friends (I know a couple o' th' Pirates For Hire currently wait'n approval), but for th' last few days I have not been able t' get MySpace t' work at all! The pages all load with No Formatting, everything spewed down th' left side o' th' page, text overlapping, NONE of th' buttons respond when I click them (thus no responding t' e-mail, updating me status, or approving ANYTHING) I can not even post a bulletin. Sounds much like what Scarlett Harlott described a month or more ago except she was able t' post a bulletin about it, when I click th…

There be those at know me as the Dread Pyrate Topknot, here on the pacific coast. A pirate o' long standing (and long inseam!) that's been sorely remiss in joinin' the pub. A hearty hail to those at know me, and a warm and trusting (for now) handshake fer those as might be new friends. From Misc"> Topknot

A most happy natal day to Thomas Neede, and Tomas Guerrero, and to....well, that other guy. I'm sure there will be lots of good beer and premium rum at this party. Hope you all have a grand birthday, even if it might lead to a little dementia! But hey, dementia goes good with cake and ice cream— or beer and rum, as the case may be.

Hello to all from THE wench here in St Augustine, There have been many questions of legitimacy regarding the visitation of Privateers on the shores of St Augustine since it was first founded and settled in 1565 by Don Pedro Menendez. Two of the largest and most popular re-enactments celebrate (?) The raids of Sir Francis Drake 1586 and Robert Searles 1668. (Privateers or Pirates?) Privateering is a license granted usually under provisions of war and aimed at the current enemy or enemies, this license expires however if the parties concerned reach an agreement (or kill each other on battlefield ) the privateers therefore become unemployed, often unknowingly, and thu…

I was speaking with a friend years ago about the pirate hobby when he said, "Do you know why I hate pirate re-enactors and hobbyists? They all come from some imaginary country that utilizes a Cockney-Welsh-Lancashire-Northumberland dialect. Then, if this isn't enough, they add a little Jamaican-Australian-Voodoo-Nyaaahwleens (New Orleans) twist just to sound more piratey. Are there no true New Englanders? Are there no pirates from Spain?" He's not wrong. It does happen more often then not. People equate a bad hodge-podge of British Isle accents with piracy, often to the point of channeling Peter Ustinov from Blackbeard's Ghost. What troubles me even more than this…

I'm what you might call a pirate historian, I've been interested in Pirate history for some time now, I live in North Carolina, { home to Black Beard ) and we have lots of Pirate history along our coast, I saw your forum here and thought I would come aboard. I was thinking the other day, I bet the pirate's of the Golden Age never knew they would be so famous with people 300 plus years later, I recken their spirit still lives on in people like you.

I've been researching the subject and it seems the only thing I keep coming across is the boob/rib/organ abuse one underwent back in the day via tight corsets. I did stumble upon this nugget: "16th century in the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt a type of earring called an earplug became fashionable and these fitted snugly into a wide stretched hole in the earlobe" But I am unable to find out if this was also done else where and for how long. Really the question is, what "work" if any did they have? I ask because I have a few things done, obviously my tattoos are not period correct and will be covered any how during PiP, I also plan on losing one piercing all togeth…

I know there are a few of you out there who have worked with our Capt. in the past. Chris Suttle, who has been portraying Blackbeard in eastern NC for over 8 years now will be undergoing surgery tomorrow. If you know Chris, then you have heard about his accident in 98. He was hit by a drunk driver as a pedestrian and ended up with a hairline fracture in his spine. Not wanting to give up his love for Stage Combat or playing Pirate, against his doctors better judgement he has continued to work as a proffesional pirate and stage combat instructor. Sadly though, the hairline fracture in his spine has cracked and caused three disk to rupture in his back and cause nerve d…
