  1. Thank you everyone for the praise.....I'm getting my window treatments up in the next couple o days....I'll post an update...
  2. Does anyone know what the mark up is on Pistols and Muskets? Everyone sells them for about the same price...So I wonder what the mark up is?
  3. I wonder if the Airlines have an increase of people explaining that they are carrying black powder guns right before and during PiP? I imagine so...
  4. I made a little video (it killed me to make it as you will tell) of the secret room in my office. I have this lever and weight system with springs and what not and you pull my little ship and it springs open....it's really kinda of silly... Thank you guys for all the props....and thanks for letting me show off a bit.. I hate being on camera, but I wanted to show it off! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ8LBM6zM0A
  5. So I've put a few things up on the wall.. My map of Ireland circa 1693 ( birthday present), mounted my Doglock under the map. Put a few of my misc out for display, What do you think? Still have window treatments and such to put up and few more pistols up for display... I built a wall safe and hinged a pic frame over it......see?
  6. You never fully realize just how dirty yer Slops are until you stitch up another pair and glance at em side by side!!
  7. My favorite. The movie that sparked my interest.
  8. I do the same as Patrick, buy surplus blankets. White in color and then dye myself.. I think I pay like $10.00 bucks a piece, but they're like 2 1/2 yards of awsome thick wool perfect for short/long coats and bags and such.
  9. I wear the Concords while I wait for my sweet Sara Junipers... The only thing I don't like is that they get them from Mexico and pay almost nothing for them and then mark em up a ton, so the little kids that make em and us get the shaft while Sancho and Fugawee make bank....suck. I wish I could see that Loyalist shoe in person.
  10. You can buy the inexpensive pattern and you get the pattern. If you buy something from say Kass at RH, she has already done the leg work and research, thats why they are a little bit more expensive. If you think about how much time she has put into her PC patterns, $25 dollars doesn't really seem like it would be worth the effort of making the patterns to sell, but she does it because she loves it. All the historical notes that come with her patterns and the fact that they are correct make them well worth the money.. To be blunt, you pay more because your home work has been done for you, turned in and you get an A+ without the headache of staring at a screen for hours. My two cents..
  11. A teacher asks her class to use the word definitely in a sentence. One child answers, "the grass is definitley green" and the teacher points out that grass is sometimes brown when not watered so it's not definitley green. Another child says, "the sky is definitley blue" and the teacher points out sometimes it's gray or red or yellow, so it not definitley blue. Another child says, "is a fart lumpy?" and the teacher replies, "no farts are not lumpy and you shouldn't say that word in class" Then the child says, "well if farts aren't lumpy then I definitley shit my pants"
  12. Graydog made me laugh out loud at work...In a funeral home.
  13. Wal mart has period correct buckle shoes?? Sweet! There aren't a ton of people making this shoe, so yes, it is important to discuss pros and cons here, because you can't buy THIS shoe from anywhere other than Loyalist.
  14. I wouldn't say hate, but I really dislike it when someone repeats Arrr over and over and over and over. I also dont really like it when I'm wearing a short sailors coat and breeches and buckle shoes and a work cap and an axe stuck in my belt and then someone asks if I'm Jack Sparrow, I just say he's my cousin. It annoys me when a guy wears all leather with conchos on his pants like a Mariachi and carries a ninja sword and a shrunken head and then tells me a 10 minute description about his pretend ship that is supposedly parked in the dirt parking lot that is doubling as a port in Bath town and then feels the need to tell me I can't be a pirate because I'm not carrying a "Brace" of pistols and a sword...(True Story)
  15. Kenneth,

Thanks for the kudos on the photo at PIP.

That Black 'n White of you at Ojai is great!

P.S. The Personal Photo looks like an old Keystone Cop shot from the '20s - who's the Cop?

  16. Thanks!! It just so happens I do smoke Marlboros....Now where is my seahorse?
  17. Had this pic taken at Ojai. Sewing 80 feet of rope onto that sheet, took all day but it's my favorite Sail/tent I've made thus far..
  18. I could get you some femorals from here at the funeral home, but I'd go to prison shortly after!!
  19. I've seen this Jas coat and shirt and it's not bad. Of course it was being used for Colonial period sailors. The people I saw wearing them looked well fitted in them. Can you sew? That shirt is simple to make and takes 30 minutes total from cutting to sewing, you could make it out of some nice linen. The pattern is free online at Costumers manifesto..The coat is easy as well and is not far off from RH patterns aside from the cuffs and the saucer size buttons. I would request a swatch like James said, this way you know if the material is ok for you.. Perhaps we can see some examples of other peoples own Short coats and what shirts they are wearing for our time period? Some pics of you in your Shirt and short coat and how you came about owning them?
  20. Blonde hair + Green eyes + Southern Ireland (Cork and Kerry) = me fainting. She could talk about cleaning a toilet and it would sound sexy! Whew!
  21. michaelsbagley you look awsome! Found this.. “A cravatte is another kind of adornment for the neck being nothing else but a long towel put about the Collar, and so tyed before with a Bow Knott; this is the original of all such Wearings; but now by the Art and Inventions of the seamsters, there is so many new ways of making them, that it would be a task to name, much more to describe them.” —Randle Holme, Academy of Armory and Blazon, 1688. Is this true? "Early cravats were made of the lace that was used so much in the period, but people soon grew to prefer the softer feel of a linen or muslin (sheer cotton fabric) cravat. They developed intricate ways to fold and knot their cravats. A new style of wearing the cravat was invented in 1692 by French soldiers fighting in the Battle of Steinkirk. Too rushed to tie their cravats in an intricate knot, they simply twisted the ends of the cloth and stuck it through a buttonhole in their waistcoat or justaucorps. This style became known as the steinkirk cravat."
  22. I started off Hollywood. I would assume everyone here had to start off because of Hollywood making Films and Tv shows about Pirates. Looking back, I think putting together a historic kit is ten times easier than Hollywood garb. When you see someone purchase $400 dollar CaBoots you think to yourself, "they could have bought some really nice kicks from Sara Juniper for half that". I guess it's what floats your pirate boat. I enjoy any and everyone whos interested in all things nautical, Hollywood or Historic. It's a personal challenge for me to look historical and it makes me happy and thats the important part. The hardest part for me wih trying to do authentic is the reenactor crowd....some are very hard to be around. We had a event last night called Lamplight tours at the local Museum and a Civil war reenactor asked what time period I was from, I told him GAoP and then he made a comment about my shoes not being butt stiched....hmmmm. There is one in every crowd. So I did what any Pirate (Ahem, Sailor) would do....I relieved myself on the back of his wedge tent..Don't worry, it's most likely water proofed. Where was I? Oh! I lean towards Authentic..
  23. I use a square yard of linen, folded to about three inches in width and wrap around my neck, twist and stuff into my short sailors coat.. works for me.
