Just got some scuttlebutt whilst workin' on my other boat in Sausalito, that the Lady Washington, during transit at night from Sacramento, lost both topmasts at the Benicia Bridge. I have no idea at this point why they didn't have the bridge raised,( I'm waay shorter, and I have them raise it) but anyway, the worst happened for it..I'll post if I hear more, but I'm kinda busy pulling a powerplant..

I'm currently in Hong Kong and I spent a day at the famous Stanley market on HK island. I made it a point to check out the Maritime Museum after seeing it mentioned in Pirates Magazine. Great small FREE museum! Give it a look see if you are in the area!

Like many, I dream of one day owning my own boat. With my current mortgage and car payment, the cold truth is that I may never be able to afford my own boat. So, the thought occurs to me, if I can't own one, how about work on one? The big question is, where would I even begin looking for such a job? The Washington Post employment section seems to have passed over the categories of "boat jobs" or "jobs on the water".

I am excited to become a "bornagain Pirate"! I'm in deep now.. my back deck area is turning in to a cool pirates cove that gives the feeling of "Pirates of the Carribean" as you enter at disneyland. We found a ships bell to put on the wall and even a cool little one of a kind cannon for display of course. lol. Our treasure chest showed up today. And it goes on and on... hope you-all having jolly time as this.

Ahoy me hearties; Made it back from San Pedro City, Belize, C.A. wit all me fingers n' toes wi out haven' ta kill a single god rottin' soul. But by the devils curly tail! Gods wounds a killin' would still brighten me mood! Twas swooth sailing on a port tack all the way down wi fair wind n' weather. On short rations. We gave up the tow outside the reef and I run thru the pass taking green water over the stbd under full sail. The best thrill of the trip, n' we was the talk of the town. We carried all our weapons n' ordanence thru town to immigration, and once again our heavily armed, scraggy, dirty, weather worn, hungry lot was the talk o' the town. Folk knew we wernt' …

Every year my family takes a road/camp trip (not much actual camping, but the tent makes for a cheap hotel.) This year we're hitting the coast, starting around Virginia and working our way south to our final destination - Cumberland Island in Georgia. Anyone have any suggested locations we should hit along this route? I know there's some piratey things on Ocracoke Island, and we might try hitting that if we can figure out the ferry schedule. The Dismal Swamp sounds intriguing, though I don't know if it's much to see. What else should we seek out? We'll be travelling the week of July 14.

In another thread, I was wondering whether there had ever been pirates on the seas near Venice, Italy. ... and googling around, I found that Venetian shipping had been plagued by Dalmatian pirates in the 9th and 10th centuries. (Dalmatia is along the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea, today part of Croatia.) In my mispent youth, I knew a guy who was of Slovenian decent. (Slovenia being just to the north of Dalmatia, along the same coastline). He spent a summer backpacking along the Adriatic coast of what was then Yugoslavia, and said it was the most beautiful place in the world (of course, that predated the Croatian civil war by a decade). Anyhow, I could definitely s…

Brethren, The tides are changing and come late August Me, my wife and our cat will be packing up the HMS Chevrolet and moving from Charleston SC to Seattle. In an attempt to make the places we stay more interesting (who doesn't like pirates?) and a little cheaper I thought I would post the course we were looking at taking and seeing if there were any pirates along the way that would be willing to open there doors to a few sea worn souls. Anyway the trip looks something like this. Leg 1: Charleston to Cincinatti (Someone off board has already offered a place to stay there) Leg 2: Cincinatti to Des Moines Leg 3: DesMoines to Rapid City South Dakota Leg 4: Rapid City…

It goes without saying - I don't get out enough So in that case, I really need to attend more pirate festivals. I'd like to make at least one in 2006 (not counting Port Pirates, which is essentially in my backyard.) Given no limitations, I'd likely choose to make it Pirates in Paradise, but that may or may not be feasible. Sooo.... all you Pirate Fest veterans, please share. If you could only attend ONE festival next year, which ones would be at the top of your list, and why? Which festivals provide the most bang for the buck, as it were?

In my many years on the ocean, have have been to many places and seen many interesting sights. The Admiral and I are currently landlocked,(but not for long) I want to find the ocean locations members have been to. My personal ports of call include St Lucia, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Cancun, Bahama, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Harbor of NY Cape Ann, Ports of New Hampshire. In all of these ports, I have spent time under the sea searching for my gold lost in a previous time.

SHEBOYGAN -- The prevailing winds off Sheboygan's shoreline are about to blow local sailing into the national spotlight. Advertisement Officials revealed this week that Sheboygan will become an official U.S. Sailing Center, making it a training site for the U.S. Olympic sailing team and an increasingly prominent destination for recreational and competitive sailors nationwide. It will be the first such center on the Great Lakes and the fourth in the nation. "I think it's an incredible achievement for our waterfront community," said Terry Kohler, a prominent local sailor who owns racing sail maker North Sails and was among the people pursuing the designation over the las…

I think I want to visit there once I have a firm grasp of espaňol. I don't imagine they'll have museums honoring the pirates or anything, but I'd still like to see it. Perhaps check out the Galapagos while I'm that close. A port of good historical pirate significance, methinks.

Although our landfall was at Nuka Hiva, Hiva Oa was the major port in the Marquesas. We cleared customs at Nuka Hiva and the Government seat is still there, the only reason we made landfall there was "used Pilot books"! We spent a little time in Nuka Hiva then left, bound for Ua Huka, best known for their carvings in wood. Once we were on course for some hours we encountered a "Willi-wah". A variable in the trade winds that gets funneled between islands and the venturi effect increases the velocity greatly. The direction waqs directly on our course so, change plans! After a quite uncomfortable night we made for Tauata, a small island off the major port of Atuona. We decid…

Hi, all: I'm aware that the Bahamas has a rich history of pirate associations, particularly on the main island of New Providence and its main port of Nassau. I'm hoping to visit there in the not-to-distant future, and I wonder if anyone can suggest particular sites of interest for pirate enthusiasts. I understand there's a Pirate Museum in Nassau. Anyone been there? Did you enjoy it? And where would people suggest to stay if one wanted to be away from the main touristy spots and away from the more modern development in these islands? Looking forward to hearing about others' pirate-themed vacations in the Bahamas. Cheers, Hester

HI guys. Does anyone know anything about a pirate-themed dinner show place going in where Buffalo Bill's used to be in Buena Park? I went by not too long ago and they've got a sign up that indicates it's going to be something piratey!

I'll be in Washington DC around the first of August and I was wondering if there is anything sort of pirate related that I could go see. I'll be spending most of my time seeing the usual monuments and things like that, but perhaps there's a pirate themed eatery or place to raise a pint that I could choose instead of some more boring place. Any suggestions?

I just came across this horrible image on the Pride's website. Some of you may have heard already, since it is a bit dated, but I've been underway much of the last month and haven't had much in the way of current news. It's an aweful sight. I did a search for more info and found a series of pictures here and some more info here. Luckily (and miraculously) no one was injured. Looking at the deck and how little room there is between all that wreckage, it truely is amazing. Granted, the pictures were taken after they collected all of the rigging and piled it on deck for the motor back to port. Best of luck to all the crew in putting her back together! Coastie

Has anyone ever taken the Jolly Roger cruise in Barbados or Antigua? I didn't think much about it until I saw the plank walking. I'm planning a trip to the Caribbean now! Speaking of Caribbean... a few years ago the family and I were on a cruise in the Bahamas an we visited the Pirate Museum in Nassau. Well worth the visit! Entertaining as well as educational.

Ahoy all! Went to the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theatre last night with friends. I must say their show has really improved there. It was fantastic. More stunts, great sword play and a really good story line. The food was good for a dinner theater. Everything was hot and cooked correctly. The beer, wine and soda made many rounds. Well worth the price of admission. Plus they welcome you in costume. New is the VIP lounge. It has better libations and appetizers before the show and you can upgrade to prime rib at dinner as part of the package. Plus you can watch all the show from behind a one way glass. A good space, complete with the governor making the rounds. Well worth…
