Hi, all: I'm aware that the Bahamas has a rich history of pirate associations, particularly on the main island of New Providence and its main port of Nassau. I'm hoping to visit there in the not-to-distant future, and I wonder if anyone can suggest particular sites of interest for pirate enthusiasts. I understand there's a Pirate Museum in Nassau. Anyone been there? Did you enjoy it? And where would people suggest to stay if one wanted to be away from the main touristy spots and away from the more modern development in these islands? Looking forward to hearing about others' pirate-themed vacations in the Bahamas. Cheers, Hester

Hi: I'm wondering if there are any cruise lines that do pirate-themed packages, prefereably on actual sailing ships. I'd only be interested in such cruises if they were targeted specifically at an adult-only demographic (which counts out the Disney cruises). Perhaps a couples-only cruise? If anyone knows of such cruises, please let me know. Cheers, Hester

I'm driving on I-95N in Providence, R.I, and to the right of me I see this. The Continental Sloop Providence resting on boat stands in Conley's Wharf...so I had to get a closer look. This is a revolutionary war era vessel (in this case, a replica) but it bears an uncanny resemblance to this picture in one of my pirate books. Not much seems to have changed, however anyone if you have some info, please do tell.

About 3 days ago, I returned from a movie job in Puerto Rico. I was there for a month. and even though the job wasn't my cup of tea, or rum anyway, my time off was pretty amazing! If you've been there. you know, but if you haven't, I'll tell you a little of what you can expect. Old San Juan was, and is, a walled city, dating from around 1510, and the walls and Spanish forts are still there. Being a U.S. possession, the 2 main forts have some nice park service displays, and since the forts overlook the Caribbean Sea, nice views. I was put up at the Carib Hilton, and the hotel is surrounded by Spanish gun emplacements. The first week, I was rather disappointed in the lack o…

So my wife and I are going to Fort Myers tomorrow, and we're going to leave the baby with his grandparents and sneak off to Key West for a few days. I've only been once, and that was for PiP, and while I remember a bit of the places I went, I can't remember where I ate. Part of that was following a bunch of people to a restaurant and never learning its name, and part of that might be rum-related amnesia. In any case, I want to know some fun places to go. And I thought, Why not ask the fine folks who have invaded Key West every year for the last decade or so?

I'm sure this one will irk the CBPA or Chesapeake Bay Pilot's Association. But, why not a Chesapeake Bay Pyrats' Association? I drive a schooner on the Bay. She has nine guns, mostly swivels and all with a one-inch bore. I do shoot at other boats (mostly power boats) when they piss me off by throwin' up big wakes and tossin' the little sailboats around or doin' other dumb shit like not giving way to vessels under sail. I also attack towns. Havre de Grace got it earlier this year when I figured out how to fit my boat under the railroad bridge and join the Lock House Pirates' weekend. (Had an outstandingly WONDERFUL time!) Tolchester got a broadside on the way to Ro…

Just got some scuttlebutt whilst workin' on my other boat in Sausalito, that the Lady Washington, during transit at night from Sacramento, lost both topmasts at the Benicia Bridge. I have no idea at this point why they didn't have the bridge raised,( I'm waay shorter, and I have them raise it) but anyway, the worst happened for it..I'll post if I hear more, but I'm kinda busy pulling a powerplant..

This was passed on to me by me good friend Joe Row. --Jamaica Rose "Why We Love Sailing" PRESEASON REFRESHER COURSE To best prepare yourself for the sailing season I recommend these time tested exercises: 1. Buy a case of beer, sit it in a very warm place for a several hours, then drink it. 2. Apply sunscreen to your face in streaks and sit in front of a sun lamp for two hours. 3. Sit on a bench with large metal screws, bolts and other fixtures that protrude into your butt and legs, stare straight up into the sun for two hours. For a more robust workout, invite 4 friends to come over and yell at you the whole time. 4. Go to bank and withdraw $1,000 - then light i…

Ahoy all! Went to the Pirates Dinner Adventure Theatre last night with friends. I must say their show has really improved there. It was fantastic. More stunts, great sword play and a really good story line. The food was good for a dinner theater. Everything was hot and cooked correctly. The beer, wine and soda made many rounds. Well worth the price of admission. Plus they welcome you in costume. New is the VIP lounge. It has better libations and appetizers before the show and you can upgrade to prime rib at dinner as part of the package. Plus you can watch all the show from behind a one way glass. A good space, complete with the governor making the rounds. Well worth…

Finally, this pirate will get to go on a cruise. Was supposed to go on the Norway last September, but the ship's boiler blew up in May of last year. Then, we were going to go on the Rapsody of the Seas, which had a port call in Key West, with several options for tallship sailings as excursions. That one fell through. Finally, it looks like I'm going on the Carnival Elation going out of Galevston on the week of February 8. I was looking through the shore excusrion lists that Carnival has on their website, and found one that REALLY cought my attention in Cozumel: "Caribbean Pirates Lobster Dinner Cruise". It looks like the ONLY piratical themed shore excursion on the entir…

I just came across this horrible image on the Pride's website. Some of you may have heard already, since it is a bit dated, but I've been underway much of the last month and haven't had much in the way of current news. It's an aweful sight. I did a search for more info and found a series of pictures here and some more info here. Luckily (and miraculously) no one was injured. Looking at the deck and how little room there is between all that wreckage, it truely is amazing. Granted, the pictures were taken after they collected all of the rigging and piled it on deck for the motor back to port. Best of luck to all the crew in putting her back together! Coastie

Ahoy Mateys who have been to Key West. I'm planning a trip to Key West and the Western Caribbean. Thinking about going out on the Western Union Schooner. Is it worth it? Or can ye suggest something better? Other places on the itinary are Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Suggestions appreciated. ~Fair Winds and Calm Seas.

Port Royal has been the benefactor of some great sprucing up, namely, all the streets are now signed with their names and the 16 historical points of interest are graced with interpretive signs. More soon. Just returned. The coolest thing was my mate, Diosa, managed a trip to Rackham Cay where she stood in the same place as Calico Jack as he swung in the wind. We have video of his view at death. She also went to Gun Cay and found remnants of the small fort that was there in about three feet of water. Very fun trip as always!!! -- Hurricane

I'm taking a 4-days, 3-nights cruise in January. One of the stops is Nassau, and I understand there is a pirate museum there. Have any of you gone to the museum? What is your opinion? Any other piratical/historical points of interest to be seen in Nassau? Thankee.
