This is the closest campground. It is only about 15 to 20 min. from Baltimore. Depending on the area you are staying in.

I hope it helps.

There's also the KOA campground off I-97, where the Juryrig camps during MDRF.

Finally! We have more details!!! Specifics can be found at the now greatly re-vamped and updated website:

Baltimore Pirate Invasion

April 28, 2007

11:00 a.m. until... ??

Invasion Pub Crawl registration begins at 5:00 p.m.

Registration booth is at the Broadway Square, in the heart of Fells Point

$5 cover charge for participants.

This is a 21 and over event. ID required.

Dust off your best pirate gear and prepare to invade!

Due to the ever-growing attendance of the Baltimore Pyrate Invasion, we decided to switch things up this year. The Registration Booth will be on Broadway Square, and we are charging a $5 cover charge to offset the costs.

AVOID THE LINES! Pre-register for this event early. Details on the cover charge and pre-registration are provided under the "Pre-Registration" tab on the left. (registration form is pending)

PYRATES EN MASSE! To help with overcrowding of pubs, there will not be a dedicated route sequencing which bars to frequent. There will be participating taverns offering drink and food specials to those that have registered. So be off with ye... go out and INVADE!

MAKE A DAY OF IT! Come early and enjoy Privateer Day and compete in the costume contest!

CRUISE ON CLIPPER CITY'S CLIPPER! Clipper City Ship will be the invasion's floating tavern. There will be a pyrate cruise later that night for interested pyrates, rogues and wenches for an additional fee.

Like to show off how Pirate Savvy you really are? Local media will be present.

Baltimore City is a City, so practically all cement. So there isn't a nearby campground. The closest campground is out in the County, Patapsco State Park. Crimson Corsair provided that link. That is about a 20-25 minute drive from the City (it is also right next to my house!)

The KOA where the jury rig camps - it is even further away. It will be about a 40 minute drive.

Just FYI - a cab ride from Baltimore City to Catonsville (Patapsco State Park) is approximately $40. To the KOA would cost even more.

Has, um...anyone attempted to obtain permisson to camp at Ft McHenry? I would think that CW reenactors have done this from time to time.

I mean, PIP has Fort Zachary Taylor.

Maybe if you sing a real good star spangled banner, the park rangers might be convinced to let you camp there.

Camping at Ft. McHenry? Wow. I didn't even know that was an option to anyone. That would be really really cool to do.

Sadly, no matter how well we might sing, I don't think it' a matter of what the park rangers will allow. It's national park policy...I've never seen them allow camping at Ft. McHenry outside of actual Ft. McHenry-related reenactments. :(

Perhaps with enough ships and cannon fire, the pyrates could TAKE Ft. McHenry! Now THAT would be a true pyrate invasion! Crimson and Blenderwench, might we shoehorn that event into the festivities?!:lol:

Perhaps with enough ships and cannon fire, the pyrates could TAKE Ft. McHenry!

( according to the Star Spangled banner lyrics , for those not familiar with history, was about Ft McHenry during the war of 1812)

but unfortunately, no matter what we pyrates do, the flag will still be there in spite of rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air. :(

ohhh all too familiar w/ Ft McHenry being the subject of our national anthem. Very glad you mentioned it as a reminder, tho. That may be a useful trivia to put on the invasion website. You wouldn't believe how many Marylanders don't even know that!!!

Involve Ft. McHenry? That has also been something I would like to do in the future. I have been kicking that idea around for about a year now. I first want to get the corporate represenation to make our venture more "bonafide" and not just a bunch o' drunks rabble rousing - which I think we finally accomplished... so who knows? maybe that will be the next strategic move in future years??????

We haven't directly coordinated the vendors, so I don't have the exact list of who's who and such..... but I believe there will be a few pirate/faire sort of vendors, however not an overwhelming amount that would constitute hours of shopping and browsing.

Of course I would llike promote Privateer day... but if your main goal is to get shopping done before the invasion (vendor booths close at 6pm) as well as just enjoy the area and participate in the commencement invasion sail into port, maybe try to be there around 2:30 - 3:00? (The Invasion is at 4:00 and that is when things will start to get busy from there on out...)

Anyone intimately familiar with Maryland and/or Fell's Point regulations on Antique Firearms? Specifically, can you carry a non-concealed, not loaded, flintlock pistol at the Pivateer Day/Pyrate Invasion without any sort of Maryland Carry License? TIA.

The Fells Point Developement folks secured any permissions etc for our black powder demonstration.

I would think that a peace tied flintlock would be OK. And if its not just put them back in the trunk of the car.

Pretty sure that blades will need peace tieing too, so bring ye tie-wraps.

Pirate music at it's best, from 1650 onwards

NO weapons of any kind at Fells Point!!!!!

This is not PARF. The Baltimore Poilce Will peace tie you if you are carring a pistol or sword,

There will be people with swords and pistols but they are part of the action and will not be walking around with them outside the area marked off for the invasion fight.

We strongly ask you not to bring wepons to baltimore.

This also means plastic toy ones.

Trust me. all they do is get in the way of the drinking and just plain moving around in a public place.

I will be there for the day stuff as well as the Invasion.

Is anyone else going on the party criuse on the Clipper City at 9:00 pm?

It looks like the rain is going to blow out by late morning. It my wash out any pollen, so that should help some folks out a bit.
