Guest Angus MacVox
there was a debate on another forum about which are cooler, pirates or cowboys... pirates were winning but I still had to chime in: Why roam the deserts and plains when you can sail the ocean! Rum is much tastier than whiskey. Ponytails and bare feet beat stetsons and boots. Port Royal a damn site more exotic than Carson City. Which would you rather fire - a cannon or a pistol? ...anybody got any more?

Rosalinda
That's pretty cool Angus. Only problem is that real cowboys are some of the hardest working men around. Modern day pirates (real ones) are criminals. Sort of an unusual comparison. Just a thought.

Rosalinda
I'd rather be sailing the seven seas with a pirate, of course. Preferably one with some land. Earth is good. Rosalinda
Oh yeah, with doggin' heels... climbing all the way to the knees. I had a boyfriend that had purple c'boy boots. I met him at DFW airport and flew all the way to Boston with him. It was my admiration of those boots that started the first conversation. YeeHaa... still gotta give the cowboys their respect. I think they can live in peace. Cows don't float and ships don't sail across deserts.

Redd Oktober
I vote fer Pirates bein' cooler....mostly because when someone breaks into a Cowboy accent...a lot of times it begins to degenerate into a stereotypical "redneck" drawl- "Howdee pahdner, let's mosey on over to the Tumbleweed Saloon!".... A pirate accent, however, ah... everyone sounds cool when they do a pirate accent. YARRR! The Oktober be silent now! Just call me "REDD!"

BLACK JACK SHALAQ
In the old west there was NO honor among thieves. Even the nastiest pirates depended on each other just to survive the seas rath. Let alone watchin' each others back when boarding a galleon. TalesOfTheSevenSeas
There's just one thing that cowboys have that pirate's don't... Mechanical bulls. I used to go to the Saddle Rack in San Jose every now and then and ride the one there. Having had horses for 15 years and being that San Jose is an urban area were 98% of the people in there didn't know a forelock from a fetlock, I could out-ride the other women. That was fun. BLACK JACK SHALAQ
Seven, That may be true lassie. But pirates have "Keel Haulin'"! And mechanical bulls sink when thrown over board. Catariona VanGeldre
Alright, so pirates were, technically criminals... and cowboys tended to stay on the 'right' side of the law. But, come on, ladies, you've got to admit, there's always something indescribably irresistable about the rebel, the oulaw And, when you look at it, cowboys just don't have it Do not fear death but the life unlived! -CV http://www.historicalroleplay.com
TalesOfTheSevenSeas
OK wenches... which lad would you rather wrestle in a bathtub full of Jell-O? Brad Pitt as cowboy, or Johnny Depp as a pirate?!! (Orlando doesn't count as he's only semi-pirate) I be a-goin' for the "Depp Charge" me-self! -Claire "Poison Quill" Warren Pyrate Mum of Tales of the Seven Seas www.talesofthesevenseas.com
Rosalinda
Excellent Quill. I'd have to try 'em both out first before I decide. One at a time, of course. Well, maybe we're getting down to the brass tacks now, as we say in the West. Ultimately, it's the man (or woman) that makes the clothes, regardless of the genre, rather than the other way around. If he switched costumes... I'd still go with Johnny Depp!
Lady Seahawke
Depp...without a doubt...of course, BUT....only as Captain Sparrow. Not a fan of Depp in anything else really. There is just something about that ornery grin of his... ...and of course those eyes. Went to see PotC 5 times...didn't bother seeing Depp's other movie...Mexico....just not the same..... Redd Oktober
Arrr...Redd might not salute his fellow gentlemen out of habit...but I must confess that if he did, Depp would win over Pitt. Catariona VanGeldre
Oh, I'm all for Captain Jack Sparrow - it's not even a decision - without thought, JACK! I mean, come on, Brad is attractive but he's just too true blue, too straight laced.... And, hey, if push came to shove, I wouldn't mind taking Depp himself either, since the topic was brought up Do not fear death but the life unlived! -CV http://www.historicalroleplay.com
Coastie04
Cows don't float and ships don't sail across deserts. Actually, a bloated cow will float, and they can kind of swim (at least that's what it looked like when the cowboys were all driving 'em across the Rio Grande). As for boats across the desert, just check out the picture... Plus, whose mode of transportation is better? Both can be rough rides, but a horse doesn't go on 24/7 as a boat can (no offense to the horse lovers out there-I like them too, but not as much as boats). Which looks better? -or- -or- She was bigger and faster when under full sail With a gale on the beam and the seas o'er the rail
