Here's the link to check it out.... http://www.reenactorfest.com Currently rooms are at a discounted rate, if you are interested click on the room key.... Last year was their first attempt at doing the event, they had OVER 700 attendees and more already promised for RF2 in 2007, as well as some of the very best sutlers/suppliers to the hobby in the country. And folks, pyrates were very sadly represented, me and Cheeky Actress being the only two to show up! Although I've got me plans in gear for next Feb. (any of ye interested in getting involved just email me or Cheeky for more info!) Tis a great event to see other time frames, get yer gear in order, and just let down yer hair, drink, party and have a blast.... JohnnyTarr
Thx for the post. I will have to keep my eye on this. I live just a few hours north so I would hate to miss this. hurricane
Egad! I get all excited until I see it's in Chicago in the dead of winter. Too cold for a guy in the Tropics. Brrrrr. Great looking event though! LadyBarbossa
I never went to it as I was unable to. But I know several from the NWTA did go. And the images were smashing! Where else do you see Nazis talking to Continentals and Roman Legionaires? Or Confederates and Unions chatting with Conquistadors? This year for me is still uncertain. Classes at college take precidence over pleasure. But if Fate be willing and fortune smiles upon me... I'll go. B'sides... after Port Washington... I know a few now in the NWTA who are converting to Piracy now. ~Lady B Tempt Fate! an' toss 't all t' Hell!" "I'm completely innocent of whatever crime I've committed." Cap'n Pete Straw
Ship's Master has set our sails for this event. I was not able to hit it last February, and missed out on my opportunity to connect with the Chicago area WWII Soviet reenactors. "He's a Pirate dancer, He dances for money, Any old dollar will do... For those of you with children, the Sheraton will have completed it's indoor water park by the time RF2 rolls around, so that should be an exciting new twist to your weekend! Cheeky Actress
It's amazing to me that September is mere days away, and that means it's time to get ready for Reenactor Fest II! We have had to book BOTH of the giant ballrooms for next February due to the greatly increased demand for dealer tables. As is always the case with a new venture, only a fraction of a group will try it the first time, and the majority wait to see how it went. Well... because the first Reenactor Fest was a huge success, the number of attendees and vendors is going to increase tremendously. We already have a whole page of people booked at the hotel, even at this very early date. The hits on the website are huge, and we estimate that by the time of the convention we will have about 10,000 unique new hits and 30,000 repeat hits. We reset the counter after RF1 so these are all new numbers. Performer slots are also filling up, so do not delay in contacting me about that. Individuals that participate in a demonstration, performance or seminar get in free that day. We will not have two of anything, so for example, the first Union Infantry group to say they will drill get the spot for that impression. NEW for 2007: - Friday night party: Historical Jeopardy. Prizes will be donated by generous vendors and full credit will be given to them. This will be located in the Paramount Ballroom and a private cash bar will be set up. There is no entry fee for Reenactor Fest guests! - Saturday night party: The Grand Ball. A ball for ALL time periods, featuring 4 different musical styles: Celtic, Early American, 1800's, and WWII. This will be located in the Paramount Ballroom and a private cash bar will be set up. There is a token entry fee of $5 for guests with a one day pass. A multiple day pass gets you in for free. - An entire new ballroom full of brand new dealers. A list of participating dealers will be on reenactorfest.com as the convention draws closer. - National TV coverage from a popular morning news program is planned for Friday. - MORE historical impressions will be represented. - Private meeting rooms will be available at no charge to units for their yearly meeting. First-come, first-served. ... and even more is in the works! Please visit the website @ www.reenactorfest.com! Member of "The Forsaken"
Ransom
Well, don't all that make me jealous!! YES!!! Just too far for this poor pirate to travel. Post lots of pictures afterwards for those of us lusting to go but unable to. ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... You can do everything right, strictly according to procedure, on the ocean, and it'll still kill you. But if you're a good navigator, a least you'll know where you were when you died.......From The Ship Killer by Justin Scott. Cap'n Pete Straw
Several things to say.. (1) "...Chicago in the dead of winter. Too cold..."? Give me a break. Winters in Chicago are far easier to survive than navigating through the Strait of Magellan or the disease-infested African coast. What kind of a pirate are ye? Well, apparently, not a Chicago-born one like me... (2) Decisions, decisions. What to wear?? I presume I will do "The Pirate Thing", especially if it was under-represented last year. However, I hope it will not interfere with my attempts to network with the WWII Russian guys. (3) I had more, but I forgot... scratch "Several things" and replace it with "A couple of things" "He's a Pirate dancer, He dances for money, Any old dollar will do... Good point Cap'n Pete... besides the event is indoors and folks can bring their bathing suits for the new indoor water park! Sounds hot to me! So what is period correct bathing attire for GAoP?? Cap'n Pete Straw
So what is period correct bathing attire for GAoP?? Seriously? Well, a large percentage of pirates could not swim (according to everything I have read). And they often swam only when they had to -- which was when their ship was going down. So I deduce that period correct bathing attire for GAoP would be wearing everything you already have on, and clutching as much gold and other loot as you can lay your hands on. I hope the hotel has lifeguards on duty... "He's a Pirate dancer, He dances for money, Any old dollar will do... "He's a pirate dancer, His dances are funny... 'Cuz he's only got one shoe! Ahhrrr!" Capt. Sterling
Aye Cap'n Pete, grand thinkin there! Although I think I would want to shed as much of my clothing as possible...if given the time to do so... once all that kit fills with water, I bet it would get rather heavy and could possibly pull you under.... Capt. Sterling
For those of you who may have tried booking hotel rooms for RF2 via the webpage and were told they were already completely booked... please try again, there was a clitch in the system that was found and now corrected. And although not completely booked yet, the rooms are filling up VERY rapidly... so don't hesistate much longer there are only so many left....
