Rhia Firewalker
I am trying to find either remixed classic shanties or original recordings that have a more "techno/tribal/dance/trance" feel... anybody got any suggestions?
Duchess
"techno/tribal/dance/trance" So far as I know, this phrase doesn't really describe sea shanties. You might check out some of the other threads about Punk and Metal bands with nautical themes. That's about the closest I think you're going to come, though I stand willing to be corrected. Coastie04
I've heard a modernized version of 'Beggar Man' as a bonus track on an album. Unfortunately, I can't recall it right now, but I think it was by Great Big Sea (though don't quote me on that). Sir Eric
Aye, Coastie... Great Big Sea it be, and the album be "Rant and Roar" GBS has a few updated shanties, although I wouldn't put them in the techno/trance/tribal genre... more like easy listening or even pop. It's brilliant stuff tho... me Mp3 player be overflowin with the Sea, as it were. Gaelic Storm has done a few shanty remakes as well, and their sound is maybe a little more tribal, but still very irish-folksy. NOAH: Wow... the whole world flooded in just less than a month, and us the only survivors! Hey... is that another... do you see another boat out there? Wait a minute... is that a... that's... are you seeing a skull and crossbones on that flag? Ministry of Petty Offenses
