Pirate Petee Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Wouldn't it be great if Hollywood made a real period pirate movie, the same quality as POTC. Don't get me wrong I loved POTC, but I think it would be cool to see a movie about the life of a pirate that actually existed. Which pirate would you like them to make a movie about?
Killian Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Grace O'Malley, the Queen of the Irish Pirates.
Mad_Molly Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Oooh, I remember reading about her, she was cool... personally my favorite pirate is Black Bart. Everyone loves an Irish girl. Mad Molly
Pirate Petee Posted August 26, 2005 Author Posted August 26, 2005 That one would have a cool ending. Sea battle in a storm and all. Or so the story goes.
Master Sully Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 I would like to see the story of Sam Bellamy on the big screen. How he became a pirate out of desperation when they couldn't salvage the Spanish ships, and the tragic ending drowning so close to home with his wife only a town away. "Remember, on a pirate ship, in pirate waters, in a pirate world, ask no questions. Believe only what you see. No, believe half of what you see."... Burt Lancaster DUM SPIRO SPERO... WHILE I BREATH, I HOPE
JoshuaRed Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 I'd love to see Avery on the big screen. What an epic adventure he had, going to sea on a slaver, stealing the ship, crusing the Indies and South America, then enjoying the pirate haven of Madagascar, and looting the Mogul's prize treasure ship - still one of the single largest robberies ever commited in history, and what a tragically perfect end, him dying a nameless pauper in England.
Pirate Petee Posted August 26, 2005 Author Posted August 26, 2005 All those would be awsome, I think I would like to see one about Bart Roberts or Blackbeard. And after reading the Pirate Hunter, I think that would make a good movie.
Pew Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Blackbeard. His demise would be one of the true great endings of all time. , Skull and Quill Society , The Watch Dog "We are 21st Century people who play a game of dress-up and who spend a lot of time pissing and moaning about the rules of the game and whether other people are playing fair."
William Brand Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 William Kidd. But it would have to include the kangaroo court trial they put him through. Poor bastard. They hanged him twice. The first time the rope broke. Â Â Â
tishsparrow Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 i would like to see a movie about one of the famous lady pirates. Theres just not that many movies, if any, about them. Ann Bonnie, Mary Read, Grace O'Malley, great stories, and probably great movies too.
Captain_MacNamara Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Sir Francis Drake... But aside from him, Edward Teach or Bartholomew Roberts... I would settle for just about any period pirate though, if done right. :) Captain of the Iron Lotus It is the angle that holds the rope, not the size of the hole.
Cut-throat Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Benjamin Hornigold AND Edward "Blackbeard" Teach.....Ya' gotta' have ol' Blackbeard's mentor in there. :)
Capt. Lazarus Gage Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 I'd have to throw my pieces of eight behind Bart Roberts or Teach. -Capt. Lazarus Gage
Captain Midnight Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Blackbeard, aye! "Now then, me bullies! Would you rather do the gallows dance, and hang in chains 'til the crows pluck your eyes from your rotten skulls? Or would you feel the roll of a stout ship beneath your feet again?" ---Captain William Kidd--- (1945)
lady renee Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 i would like a movie on mary read. a pirate's life for me(gold, rum and men).
Black Hearted Pearl Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 Grace O'Malley would be my first, with Anne Bonney and Mary Read second. Not that I wouldn't mind more films with men in tall boots with swords, but with the Legend of Zorro and of course, POTC II and III. I think we need some women represented besides Gena Davis' character in Cutthroat Island. ~Black Hearted Pearl The optimist expects the wind. The pessimist complains about the wind. The realist adjusts the sails.
Jack2 Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 I agree with BHP. I would like to see a movie about a comely woman pirate like Grace O'Malley. Jack II
Coastie04 Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 OK, I think Blackbeard's life would make a great story. Now for the more important question...who would you like to see play them? I think I'd like some no-name actor personally, to add at least a little to the authentic feel instead of someone people recognize right away. Coastie She was bigger and faster when under full sail With a gale on the beam and the seas o'er the rail
BatSpell Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Personally, I'd like to see a movie about Anne Bonny, Mary Reed, and Calico Jack! That'd be just ArrrrrrrrSome!!! -Deadly Drucilla Pause My Friend, As You Pass By. -As You Are, So Once Was I. -As I Am, So Shall You Be. -Prepare You Then, To Follow Me. (written on a gravestone)
Rummy3 Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I agree with BHP. I would like to see a movie about a comely woman pirate like Grace O'Malley. Jack II I loved AGAINST ALL FLAGS with Errol Flynn & Maureen O'Hara. She is the epitome of a fiery redhead indeed! :)
Blackbead Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Well, damned I'll be if it isn't you again Rummy saying the thing very closest to me heart! Even with all the pirate movies I have in me hold, the one I miss the most is "Against All Flags." Without a doubt, one of the finest pirate movies ever made! The newer version, "The King's Pirate," may have had one of the most delectable women in filmdom in it (the lucsious Jill Saint John playing Mistress Jessica Stephens) but DOUG McCLURE as a British office?!?!? I would LOVE to have a copy of the old classic someday. Now, Coastie, as far as me life making a great story, I couldn't agree with ye . . . (Rummy leans over and whispers into Blackbead's ear) OH, by the Grace of God and all that's Holy! Forgive me, me friends! There I go being ME again! "In the end, it's not the gold that sets our sails, 'Tis freedom and the promise of a better life That raises our black flags."
Barbados Sam Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 It's funny Petee started this post, because I was just thinking the same thing the other day. Although I was thinking that it would be nice if HBO did a series about pirates. They have done such a amazing productions on Deadwood, Carnivale and now especially Rome, that I know they would do an excellent job of it. "There be the chest, inside be the gold, we took them all. Spent them and traded them. We frittered them away on drink and food and pleasurable company. The more we gave them away, the more we came to realize... the drink would not satisfy, food turned to ash in our mouths, and all the pleasurable company in the world could not slake our lust. We are cursed men....Compelled by greed we were, and now we are consumed by it."
the Royaliste Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Scuttlebutt has it that the History Channel is doing a period pirate piece on 'the real pirates of the Carribean'...Calico Jack, etc....starts filming in Dec............
