capnwilliam Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Am currently reading William Owen's autobiographical IN CAMP AND BATTLE WITH THE WASHINGTON ARTILLERY OF NEW ORLEANS. Also, Harold Peterson's ROUND SHOT AND RAMMERS: hard to imagine any better a general work on cannon history, from the early 1500's through the American Civil War. Also, if you write to THE ARTILLERYMAN at mail@civilwarnews.com , they will send you a free issue of their magazine! :) :) Capt. William "The fight's not over while there's a shot in the locker!"
dasNdanger Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 Thanks, cap'n... I have a question on Round Shot and Rammers - does this go into detail about not only the history of cannons, but also gun handling, tools of the trade, and so on?? Just wonderin'... das http://www.ajmeerwald.org/
capnwilliam Posted February 16, 2005 Author Posted February 16, 2005 I've just started reading it; but I'm betting that the answer will be AYE! Already I'm seeing many pics and descriptions of the carriages, tools, etc. (I'm still in the early chapters; and the early days - but about to commence reading the Chapter that goes from the late 17th through late 18th century).
