Ransom
Since I started Petty Annoyances, I thought it might be nice to have the more positive flip side. So, post here the simple things in life that bring a smile to your face, and make you think the world isn't such a bad place...even after you've seen the evening news. For me right now, it's babysitting a friend's horses — three minies of various heights, an ex-racing thoroughbred, and her big riding horse. I had horses for 30+ years, and found homes for my last two a little over a year ago, but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss them. So having these guys for a week really does make me smile. ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... You can do everything right, strictly according to procedure, on the ocean, and it'll still kill you. But if you're a good navigator, a least you'll know where you were when you died.......From The Ship Killer by Justin Scott. callenish gunner
"Self Promoter Jim" his name is Jim .....his business is Old Sutler Jon's......yeah I know quite confusing Edited June 30, 2009 by callenish gunner
sutlerjon
Aye! Me name be Jim ... the business was started by a man named John. Started in the '60's (1960's not 1660's). 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's he and Nancy ran "Old Sutler John" ... albeit 150 or so years in the future (huh?) ...... early this decade he passed away, a couple years later I met his widow, we hit it off (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). After his passing she kept the biz going, we kept the name of the business, I kept mine, seemed easier that way .... turns out to have been quite confusing ...... but it's been great fun! In a nutshell, call me what you want, please don't call me late to dinner! Been hanging 'round the Bone Islanders enough now that I'm beginning to have Multiple Personality Disorder. Sutlerjon, Evil Sutler Jim, Jim ..... now thanks to Mr. Tignor "Suggestive" Sutler Jim ... the list goes on. Just call me and order lots o' stuff fer yer camp! (There's the self promoter part) Mr. Tignor .... It's not "dirty" it's merely "suggestive". Or .... (for those of you a couple years older) "You can call me Ray or you can call me Jay or you can call me RayJay" (that's all the bit I remember) just please don't call me >insert feminine denominator here< ..... jus' tryin' ta be "PC". Also, to quote Debbie Harry "Call me .... " another reference fer the more seasoned citizens here in the Pub! Endnote, this is one my "complicated" pleasures ... telling this story! Rumba Rue
Every time I drive the car with my personal plates - STAR WRS- I feel happy and so blessed to have that plate and I always get a smile from people. Everyone recognizes it; I've had people take pictures with their phones, people hanging out the windows with cameras, notes on my car about how well the plate is liked and on and on. Course it also helps to have the great bumper sticker of all time: If only closed minds came with closed mouths Laughter is truly the best medicine!
