Lily Alexander
I came across a ladies short jacket in Janet Arnold's Pattern of Fashion 1 It's patterned after Snowshill Manor c.1720-1740 I might be adding trim and I still have to hem the skirt but it's almost done. The jacket is cream silk brocade with the bodice and sleeves lined with linen. The skirt is unlined. Capt. Sterling
Make sure you bring it with you... as I would like to see this on you over stays and not just on the dress dummy... also please bring the photos of that original jacket with the quilted petticote... Thanks...... should look lovely when finished... "I being shot through the left cheek, the bullet striking away great part of my upper jaw, and several teeth which dropt down the deck where I fell... LadyBrower
ooh! I love it. The jacket matches your stays yes? I'd love to see everything together! =) Cook and Seamstress to the Half Moon Marauders Lady Brower's Treasures, Clothing and other treasures Hell Hath No Fury like the Wrath of a Woman... Lily Alexander
Will do Captain. I agree, the dress dummy does it no justice. It certainly looks much better over stays. Thank you Lady Brower. It is the same fabric as my stays. :) If you're gonna give me a headache, please bring me an aspirin! http://www.forttaylorpyrates.com/
michaelsbagley
Nice work! Does the place you got that fabric from have other styles available? And if so would you be willing to share the source?
Lily Alexander
Thanks Michael. This fabric I got as a remnant from http://www.renaissancefabrics.net/index.php. It was only 2 1/2 yards and I was terrified to make a mistake because that's all I could get. It didn't help that my silly cat chewed up the first cutting of the fabric I used for my stays. Cheeky Actress
Very Nicely done, Lily! I haven't been on the board much this week (trying to finish up a few things before Blackbeard), but I happy to see that you are almost done with it! I cannot wait to see it on you! lady constance
absolutely lovely work lily!! lovely! and i can say that IF you dye the fabric { after some mishap with liquor or whatever else, the brocade will dye beautifully.... i have had brocade dye 2 ways--- one completely dying all ofthe pattern , and the other way that the relief does not dye at all making the garment just stunning to behold!-- i once dyed a pear green brocade navy blue --WHOA !! absolutelyl stunning and regal!! so regal i dont know what to sew with it--so i threw it back on the bed and keep on using it as a coverlet!! this jacket seems vaguely reminiscent of janice ryans short jacket pattern.......{{though the back looks a skitch bit different... not that that matters at all} and can the sleeves also be made to have bells upon them also, as a variation? has anyone ever tried janice ryan patterns? and i have heard they run 2 sizes smaller than usual just looking at all that you all do inspires me so! lady constance
Lily Alexander
Thank you Aerynfyre & Lady Constance. Hopefully dying won't be an issue. I really need this jacket to stay this color :) I do have the ryan pattern "18th Century Jackets" and it was very useful in helping me make this pattern. Especially the sleeves. This jacket is similar to the ryan patterns but unfortunately they are all for 1750 and later.
