MadL Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 It's not the Canadian Customs going "into" Canada? It's my friend 'In' Canada that says it takes o'er a month for a CD I mail to her to finally reach her, and she says all her packages from the USA are either "opened or have been opened then re-taped" when she does finally get them. Usually when she sends me CDs I get them in 2 or 3 weeks. She (my Canadian friend) was so worried when I told her I had sent some CDs for she says the Customs up there go through EVERYTHING and if they even 'suspect' that I was sending her anything bootleg ( a pirate would NEVER do that!) then she would never see it....it did finally reach her, and she said the package was open on one end...go figure eh The only things I get here that are 'opened' are ones that UPS deliver and th' box looks like they played soccer with it all the way, 'n then stopped off at th' zoo t' let th' gorilla play with it, then dropped it off th' back o' th' truck....a few times! Hey Greydog; Did ye complain when it finally came: "Where' the rest o' it by thunder? It should be MUCH big'r!!" ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! So keep yer cutlass sharp, 'n keep her close!
Matty Bottles Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 A lot of my friends in bands say that Canadian Customs is particularly anal about music and musicians, if you can believe. I wonder if that's why your CDs are targeted? "The time was when ships passing one another at sea backed their topsails and had a 'gam,' and on parting fired guns; but those good old days have gone. People have hardly time nowadays to speak even on the broad ocean, where news is news, and as for a salute of guns, they cannot afford the powder. There are no poetry-enshrined freighters on the sea now; it is a prosy life when we have no time to bid one another good morning." - Capt. Joshua Slocum
MadL Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I don't know that they put a target on them...if they do then they must be pretty good shots 'n always hit th' whole for she ne'er said any where broken... ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! So keep yer cutlass sharp, 'n keep her close!
Matty Bottles Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Well, of course they wouldn't be broken. Their projectiles aren't that solid - I did say they were anal about it. I wonder if that's why your CDs are targeted? I can confirm this... When I was last in Canada for a while... I heard all about some new laws in Canada (not sure if they were proposed or had just passed), but aparently Canada is getting pretty anal about any and all recorded (pirated?) music/software/movies (basically any recorded media)... It is aparently a very big issue at the moment. But other than recorded media Metasalem has it right... You could bring in an big shiny purple elephant, and Canadian Customs wouldn't bat an eyelash or say a single word about it.
MadL Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Big shiny purple elephants, eh? Them Canadians oughta switch from beer t' rum, eh, all me shiny elephants be pink 'n gots wings, eh.... ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! Graydog Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Hey Greydog; Did ye complain when it finally came: "Where' the rest o' it by thunder? It should be MUCH big'r!!" Actually it is a 44mm Cannon, that happens to be 1.73 inch and it was complete. Why am I sharing my opinion? Because I am a special snowflake who has an opinion of such import that it must be shared and because people really care what I think!
Matusalem Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Anybody recieve anything yet form Loyalist Arms? Shoes? I know these things take time with custom orders, sourcing, etc. I ordered a pair in the first week of April. I am about to make a phone call
MadL Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Nay naught I, me order was placed th' same time. Estimate at that time be "around June", so I suppose May 'n July be 'around' June. Personally, I do naught mind be'n around April, May, 'er June, they be some mighty fine wenches indeed!! But I would like me shoes back... ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! So keep yer cutlass sharp, 'n keep her close!
casketchris Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 just woundering if anybody noticed the shoes and buckles that capt morgan is wearing in the painting by howard pyle "morgan sacks porto bello" Nautical acquisition and redistribution specialist
Matusalem Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 just woundering if anybody noticed the shoes and buckles that capt morgan is wearing in the painting by howard pyle "morgan sacks porto bello" casketchrist, Howard Pyle...good artist, though I question his total accuracy of the period since he was around in the late 1800's. Someone posted somehting a hile ago to the effect that buckes were around 1¼", based on the shoe found on the Whydah wreck (which I ordered). ...and reenactor purists are going to hate me because I requested smooth side out. I'm on the telephone with LAR this second , but I'm getting a voice mail, so I will call back.
hurricane Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I chose smooth side out too. The others reminded me too much of a pair of Hush Puppies I had when I was a kid and hated. Pyle's renderings are nice, but they are fanciful as well. For instance, there was only one official portrait of Henry Morgan ever painted and it was in Jamaica. It later went into private hands and hasn't been seen since on the island. So no one really knows what he looked like, let alone his shoes. :) -- Hurricane -- Hurricane ______________________________________________________________________ http://piratesofthecoast.com/images/pyracy-logo1.jpg Captain of The Pyrates of the Coast Author of "Memoirs of a Buccaneer: 30 Year Before the Mast" (Published in Fall 2011) Scurrilous Rogue Stirrer of Pots Fomenter of Mutiny Bon Vivant & Roustabout Part-time Carnival Barker Certified Ex-Wife Collector Experienced Drinking Companion "I was screwed. casketchris Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 the reason for my post was not to say howards painting are 100 % spot on, but the shoes in said painting have small buckles much like the ones that gof carries... just thought it was funny that alot of people bash his non historical clother yet in this painting there is aa shoe much like the one in this post... it was more of a hey this is cool check it out kinda thing.... MadL Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I went rough side out, figure they get worn smooth soon enough and this way it put th' smooth side next t' me tender dogs...I likes t' rub me feet between tender....'um......anyone heard from Loyalist yet??? ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! Matusalem Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 'um......anyone heard from Loyalist yet??? I spoke to Blair yesterday, and according to him, my order was in the process of being shipped from the factory to their place in N.S. If you have an issue just call 902-479-0967 and ask for Blair. Me being in the shoe import business, I started asking questions like "do you have the factory invoice?", etc. , and of course his response was like "oh yeah, they'll be here anytime, ....etc". However, me being of a fool, I didn't ask whether they were being shipped by container ship or air cargo. So...if anyone calls Loyalist Arms, please ask them their method of shipping. I am hoping that the Emma Mærsk, or whatever ship it be, was not intercepted by pirates somewhere off the coast of Somalia. The shoes are made in India.
MadL Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 perhaps they be shipped by way o' frigate...blasted frigate captains, they always gotta stop off in Jamaica for more rum ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! So keep yer cutlass sharp, 'n keep her close!
MadL Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 hmm, back in April they thought turn round should be in June...since past be July 'n now it be August... Anyone get their shoes back from th' April order yet?? ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! So keep yer cutlass sharp, 'n keep her close!
Capt. Sterling Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 'um......anyone heard from Loyalist yet??? I spoke to Blair yesterday, and according to him, my order was in the process of being shipped from the factory to their place in N.S. I Hmmm we've been getting this same story for about a month now... along with the "we have them in hand, just have to sort and ship to the crews..." We even paid to have them rushed in time for Beaufort.... still no shoes... "I being shot through the left cheek, the bullet striking away great part of my upper jaw, and several teeth which dropt down the deck where I fell... MadL Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 uh, just an observation but...did anyone confirm they did mean 'this' year?? ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! So keep yer cutlass sharp, 'n keep her close!
Matusalem Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Captain Sterling wrote Hmmm we've been getting this same story for about a month now... along with the "we have them in hand, just have to sort and ship to the crews..." Don't count on it. Mad L Wrote uh, just an observation but...did anyone confirm they did mean 'this' year?? 6 to 12 weeks, says they. I will assume one of two things have occurred: One, the factory in India has incurred problems and delays. These are special make-up shoes, not from a production line....which in one sense, a good thing, that not being from an assembly line. Having personal experience with shoe factories in Asia, there is a lot of politics and attrition....bad. Two, the delivery could have intercepted, not by pirates, but from customs officials, either canadian or US, and detained indefinitely because something else was also in the package, other than what the manifest or waybill says...such as drugs or pirated dvd's. As far fetched as this notion may seem, India is a far less controlled exportation, then say, China. My company's shoes leave the port of Shenzhen, China where our factories are, then directly to Long Beach, california. There is really no room for illicit busines, particularly in a fairly closed and controlled society such as China. We don't even export from Hong kong anymore, which would have meant the 3 hour truck drive from China across the border into HK, thus some security holes. India seems like 'anything goes' type of place. You figure smuggling stuff into Canada is probably far easier than into the US, particularly with the new Homeland Security procedures.
MadL Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I wrote them a few days ago but have naught heard back yet.... ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock! So keep yer cutlass sharp, 'n keep her close!
MadL Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I just heard from Loyalist, 'n it be GOOD news indeed! They say me shoes have come in late this last week, they are in th' process o' preparing them fer th' journey t' me doorstep! ....uh, but they did naught mention if anyone else's came in ~All skill be in vain if an angel pisses down th' barrel o' yer flintlock!
