RustyNell
yeah blame it on the school computers - sure its not those "Sticky Fingers" lol BTW I really appreciate all this textile conversation. Just the research I need to do and discuss. I don't want to waste any more money on non PC fabrics. the stitching can't be seen from a distance but texture of the fabric stands out like a sore thumb if its wrong. “PIRACY, n. Cheeky Actress
Okay...as promised, here are some shots of the Winter Gown in progress. Here is my inspiration for my lastest and greatest project! Here is the very short, very soft, low pile white faux fur which I painted last night. As you can see, I did it in two stages...the first four rows about 1/2 inch apart and the rest further apart for dramatic affect. As I stated before, I used a swept-brush tech. to give it the look of a tail. Here is the cut faux ermine fur front piece for my petticoat. This part will only be about 20 inches high (half the petticoat) as the rest will be dark blue velvet. Member of "The Forsaken"

LadyBrower
That is just amazing. I would be petrified to paint on the fur! How do you do that? I cannot wait to see the finished product. LadyBarbossa
LOL... :::shrugs::: T'was a thought. :) Steep? Did the cost of rabiit fur go up that I wasn't aware of? Nell. Lots of good discussion here. Hell, every group always has good discussions. But best thing is to just google and do all sorts of research, looking for pieces. I guarantee ye'll find a surviving piece out there somewhere. All sorts of info out there. Keep looking around out there. Will take time. But ya know what... find something that strikes yo'r fancy and go with it. Ye can always make another outfit later. ~Lady B Tempt Fate! an' toss 't all t' Hell!" Jack Roberts
LOL... :::shrugs::: T'was a thought. :) Steep? Did the cost of rabiit fur go up that I wasn't aware of? ~Lady B current price for a good rabbit plate is about 59 - 65 dollars... a plate is approximately 12 pelts sewn together, tis about 4 feet by 2 feet... and barely enough for just the bottom of the petticote... still have to consider the train and the trim... Dang and I think my parents already culled their rabbits awhile back.
Cheeky Actress
Update.... Here is the finished petticoat for my Blue Winter Mantua. For those of you who are wondering what it's like to work with faux fur...here are my two cents. ICK! I cannot imagine working with it all the time. It gets everywhere and it is best to use a good sharp needle and strong thread. To Master Patrick Hand...if you are out there...I applaud your skill working with this stuff! But I digress..As you can see, I've cut the fur by scallopping the top edges as shown in the fashion plate, but I did make a few changes. First, I decided to go with silver accences instead of gold. Here is a close up of the trim and accent pieces. Now...I must return to making my Mantua...
