As much as this will come off as me being a contrarian (again )... Most of the largest event I have been to have been the most relaxed about tent sizes... In my experience, a new small event starts with few rules, grows to the point where the rules start to over-proliferate... Take a small dip from frustrations over bouncing from one extreme to another.. Grow back to that size in a relaxed matter, and then to outstrip even that number before the dip. I'm not trying to be negative here.. Just stating the facts as I have seen them over the years (both first hand and by second hand accounts). Is this the peak year before the dip? On another note... Numbers... Last year there was about 40 campers.. One only has to look at last year's "Roll Call" thread to see that there were over 90 registered. That is over 50% last minute bail out rate. While I hope this year's bail out rate is much lower, if I were a betting man, I would bet the rate will still be in the 40%+ range (as much as I hope I am wrong). My rather circumventuous manner of saying, time to relax and not make this the "jumping the shark" year... Specially when a great deal of the anxiousness seems to be based on numbers that are likely very overinflated.

A little more local media coverage to get spectators interested... Article on this link Thanks to Jennie G's mom for noticing this and sharing! Piracy, it's for the whole family!

Yeah, it would be better! But every tinsel town needs it's cockroach!

Sweet! Nice job on the carriage!

Thanks for the quick response, sorry about the duplicated question... As in former years, the lead up to the event does end up causing a lot of info to be buried, I appreciate you patience with this.

Hey, What is the verdict (or has there been one) on those small charcoal fireboxes? Traveling through at least half a dozen states, and wanting to be relatively self sustaining, is their use a viable option? found at Smoke and Fire and many other colonial sutlers. As an note, they would have to be left out in open site throughout the days as our tents are too small to hide one in on top of the rest of our gear... Not to mention the potential fire hazard of doing so. And the greater ease of being able to find and transport charcoal, and saving us the risk of trying to find firewood over the last leg of the journey and not risking breaking who knows how many state laws if we tried to bring it through several states.

Those look awesome!!! Great job!

http://pyracy.com/index.php?showtopic=15104 I haven't checked the other index threads. Most of them are pinned, although I think that one (the second post in particular) probably has the most links contained in it. It actually worked ok until I edited it, so the older threads may be grandfathered in until they get changed. (Trouble being, this is what index threads are for...) I think it is only affecting new posts, as the old "Garb Index from Twill" (now found in the Sewing Room) is still looking like it is working.. See here

What are the shifts for this? I may be able to do a later afternoon (post battle) shift or two... And work in "Living History" into my shift as well as I can guard the items and talk to interested passers by about the items (if that is what draws their attention), or talk about soldiers, if that is what draws their curiousity, or both if said spectator is very patient and has lots of time on their hands.

Read the "Roll Call" thread and you will see she will be traveling with us! It's official, we are coming.

I just witnessed my office manager approving and signing off of my vacation request... Much sooner than anticipated... And that means Kate and myself are in for sure. This will also mean that Mark and Jennie G will be likely joining us, and a good chance of Trish and Shannon as well. I will be talking with all of these folks this coming weekend and get a better feel for the likelyhood of each of them coming.

Don't worry about the wedding, I have been following the PiP threads the entire time and this is the first I am hearing of a wedding. I am going to go out on a limb and guess that the wedding is for them that are invited only... Either that or a general invite will be forthcoming... Either way Red, you are as up to date as any of the rest of us not in the inner circle of organization. The 150 limit was posted some months ago by Spike, and that was set to keep the camping area from outgrowing itself beyond a sustainable size. I think the camping list is at about 140 at the moment, and while more may "sign up" for beach area, it doesn't factor the usual 20 to 40 percent (my rough estimate from years of observations, actual numbers may vary) attrition rate suffered by most events (including PiP) in the last month or two running up to the event.

From my end, I have a set of two of extra garb I can loan if there is anyone who needs it. The items I have for loan are all my size (34"-36" waist, 42"-44" chest, and made for a 5'10" tall person, although they will likely fit someone an inch or two taller or shorter). I'll likely be doing the Red Coat thing all weekend, so it will be my pirate garb, and if I am lucky, I may have an extra Red Coat in the same size to loan (this depends on my finishing my new coat by then). Edit - Just as an FYI, by extra loaner garb... I mean the main pieces like, coat, waistcoat and breeches... If there is a loan-ee out there thinking of taking me up on this, they would need their own hat, stockings, shoes, and preferably a shirt (although I would loan a shirt if the absolute need was there). I also have an extra pistol I can loan... The loan of the pistol is completely based on the borrower cleaning and maintaining it daily, every day. I will also ship or send the stuff with someone should I not be able to come myself (although it is looking good for my being able to come).

Nice work! The picture of the sandal on your foot makes it look a bit short on your foot... But I am not sure if they are supposed to fit like that or not (the style you are making). But that is some awesome looking work!

Nah, Mark got his dates mixed up, he is out to the Half Moon this weekend (or that is what he told me on the phone yesterday), Mark will be out for the Santa Maria event next weekend.

There is Kate Souris (my wife), and Mark G and Jennie G as well as Ben Fridley all of whom work together regularly are in Ohio (Columbus Area). There are a few people in Indiana and Kentucky just over the respective borders in the not too far from Cincy area, Fayma and a few of the Sacred Heart fall into that category, and there may be some others as well. I know some people from the Ohio Renn Fest that are not on this forum that also fall into that category, although I haven't been in close touch with that scene in a couple of years, but I could probably given some time put you in touch if you were so interested. If you are not doing anything on the Sept 19 or 20th weekend, we'd love to have you up in Columbus for this event, feel free to stop by as a spectator or a participant or straddle the line between the two if you wish. It would be good to meet you. Hope this helps, Cheers! I believe we have talked on the subject before if I'm not mistaken Michael. If you or anyone could put me in touch with individuals in the cincinnati, northern kentucky, south eastern indiana areas I would greatly appreciate it. It is basically just myself and my wife at the moment and we would love a group of people to go to events with, or even just have some fun pirate themed get togethers. As far as the event on the 19th and 20th, I am working the 19th, and my wife and I had plans to go to the Ohio Renn Fair that Sunday, so I don't know if I could make it or not, plus you would have to put up with my bucket boots. Lazarus Well Lazarus, Bucket boots are not an issue with us on the Santa Maria events. While we do prefer the more authentic look, but one of our main goals with these events is to have fun and be relaxed about it. While last time the ratio of bucket boots to other types of foot wear was pretty low (we had a few), this time it is looking like an almost 50/50 split of buckets to non-buckets, and that is fine. I think I remember sending you an invite once or twice, but I don't recall any particular conversation about it... But then my memory sucks. I hope you have a great time at O-Renn on Sunday! It wouldn't surprise me if you saw the group from the Cincy/Kentucky/Indiana area there, as I haven't heard any word of them coming out for the Santa Maria this time (but Mark might know more about that, as he has been our contact point for that group). And if you don't see them there, I think Mark G may have the contact for the group from the Cincy/Kentucky/Indiana area folks, I think I might be linked to one or two of them on mySpace or something like that, and I will check. But I can't access a lot of that kind of stuff from work, and I would guess Mark could provide you with the contact info before I was able to find it. Anyways, if you change you mind and decide to head up to Columbus, give us a shout, and if not, hopefully we will meet up at some other event down the road... And you and your wife will always be welcome any time we do the Santa Maria thing (which is shaping up to be twice a year, May and September). Capn Bob, I hope you'll forgive my oversight in not sending you an invite, I know it may be too late, but you are more than welcome to come as well. And if there are any other Ohioans or folks close enough, please also don't hesitate to contact either Mark G or myself about coming!

My vote for the rope climb would be to permit the wearing of modern sneakers for safety if it will make you more comfortable. I'll leave the final decision to Mark though. On an unrelated note, for those coming, who is showing up Friday? and who on Saturday? Post here or PM me if you prefer... It's looking like this edition will be bringing a very different crowd, it should be interesting!

Sorry to take so long in getting back to you on this. I just got off the phone with the R-Bar's owner/manager. The short answer is those under the age of 21 will be allowed in the bar. The longer answer is the bar normally cards at the door only after 9:00 PM, so under usual circumstances minors are allowed in up to that time, and a little past if they were seated before that time... They will be accommodating us regarding this even later for the party night, and are even looking into having passes made for the minors so the minors can show them to indicate that they are a part of the crowd for the night (but NOT allowed to drink!). We also have Budweiser sponsoring the party, and they will be donating a bunch of beer and sports (probably mostly hockey) related goodies to the cause to raffle off at the party, as well as some piratey flavoured items as well. I hope no one takes offense if I buy all the raffle tickets to win the hockey tickets... We will also be allowed to do a 50/50 draw at the bar for further fund raising, I have an idea I have seen before that works very well, but it will require the ladies to sell the tickets, and to be a bit flirty (and maybe a bit more than that ). But I will speak more to that when we are all gathered up in a bit less than two weeks. Let me know if there are any more questions! And Mission (the surgeon I must point out!) is the only volunteer to board the ship? Come on, surely there is another brave soul out there? I'd do it myself, but someone has to be on the deck of the ship to be overtaken by the boarding pirates.

I know the October 1st thing was just a suggestion, but should that suggestion become a reality, I (and those traveling with me) will have to counted out just on the technicality. I will not know until mid to late October as to whether I am coming or not. I'm not trying to kick up a storm here, but seriously, is not a November 1st date reasonable enough? This gives people an extra month to get "in", and prevents a fair number of people from exclusion just because their job/real life/other circumstances prevents them being able to commit until the later date. Shouldn't a whole month be plenty of time to do space allocation? Quite honestly, the fact that I have yet to hear a single peep from "official" sources doesn't sit well with me. If Spike and the Bone Islanders want this, shouldn't they be asking? I know those who have spoken up are trying to help, and are well intentioned, but until I hear from an "official source" what is what and what the deadline is, the footprint thing is moot to me.

I don't want to stir anything up here, and this question comes from just curiousity... But what is the urgency here? Registration forms haven't even been released yet, and to me that seems like the logical place for this information to get submitted.

Because of this thread regarding the transport of Mission's friend Becky... Hopefully Callenish will see this... But if I can't go (and I still very much hope to make it), Callenish is the closest to me who I know is driving, and I am in Pittsburgh enough that I am sure I can get it to him between when I expect to find out one way or another and the time he will be leaving (some time in November). Ya know, this might be a good queue to revive the "Driving to PiP" thread, as there are others that may need help with similar situations. I will repost this there (sorry for the duplication).

You also may want to check out the striped linen "LMTS-NB-60" at Periodfabric.com. The stripes patterns is so similar to what jack used, I almost thought I was seeing him in my breeches!
