  1. Ahoy all!

My client is the exclusive distributor of items surplused from the Florida parks. He has a really sweet item up for auction. Authentic right down to the tattoo on his arm and key to the chest around his neck (can't be too far wrong - Disney made it)

Check it out -- free shipping!

Pool your crewe money and buy a new crewe member! That's what our crewe is proposing...

That is pretty impressive... If I only had that much booty in the old chest, I would place a bid myself. Would love to have old Jack hanging out, would mean I would never have to drink alone. :)

  2. OK, So this set does not exist, (Yet) But what about a set of Wizkids Pirates Constructible Strategy Game based on the ships of real pirates from the pages of history.

I was discussing the Bottom of the barrel scraping going on at Wizzkids with their latest Pirates CSG offerings, at the shop where I buy my cards, and they suggested a "Pirates of Infamy" Set.

This is one for the purists, and would contain Pirates and pirate hunters from history, and the ships in which they sailed.

The Flavour text would be a brief description of the history of the character or vessel.

As a game it would be no less valid than the existing sets, but it would have an additional educational edge.

And who wouldn't get a buzz from pitching Edward Teach (Blackbeard) aboard the Adventure against Lieutenant Maynard ? (By the way, anyone know the names of the sloops commanded by Maynard? I thought that they were the Ranger and the Jane, But the Wikkipedia has them listed as HMS Pearl & HMS Lyme.) Or from teaming up "Calico Jack" Rackham with Anne Bonny and Mary Reid?

It would be relatively easy to unearth the names of Spanish Treasure Galleons from the time, and The Names of vessels used by some of the more notorious Pirates are recorded by Capt., Johnson.

Perhaps we should make up our own list of Crew And Ships and petition Wizkids. I am sure that they would be up for the idea if they Didn’t have to do all that tedious research.

What ships and crew would you suggest for this new set? Remember, not just Pirates, but also vessels and men involved in conflicts with Pirates.

I would recommend drawing from a wider age of sail than the GAoP, say 1600 to 1850.

Excellent time span. Would cover everything and allow for unique what if situations.

  3. My two cents.

The movie could have been better, but I think it would have been better if they had combined 2 & 3 into one film. Very much like The Matrix, 1 was good 2 sucked and three was good. Watch 2 & 3 together and you have a pretty good film all in all. I think POC will be the same way.

  4. (Idea being pirated from the Wizkids site)

    B)

Would anyone be interested in putting together a fleet online? Somewhat like a professional sports draft. Test play it against others? Why would your fleet defeat others, etc, etc...This is all about building (bragging rights) the best fleet on paper but you could take the builds and set up crews in your area to play with them and then report the winner. Mostly though its about getting that ship or crew before another Pirate gets the one they were after. It's just fun and its the most fun when you grab that guy just before the next guy was planning to.

    Some basic guidelines:

    60 points Build total

1 round per day. 1 pick per round.

Once you reach the build total you are done picking.

Any Pirates item produced can be chosen including LE's etc.

First come first serve so the order of picks will vary day to day depending on who gets in first.

You may choose only 1 card per day!!!

Each day I will post an updated list.

Base your build on standard "pirate" rules (no special scenarios)

Make your pick specific. Include set, name, nation and points

    Ex) DJC-Firepot Specialist-English-2 pts

    Ex) PotSM-Captain-Pirate-3 pts

    Ex) PotCC-La Rosario-Spanish-6 pts

    Ex) PotR-Foul Winds-Any-3 pts

Once somebody chooses a specific card it is no longer available to anyone else!

Any person may join the game at any time. If we are on day 3 they will start by making 3 picks day 5-5 picks etc.

The best 60 point fleet wins or at least will be argued and discussed for quite a while.

Please review the posts so that you do not pick the same card as someone else. If you did and you were the second person then pick again.

If there is enough interest, I'll let this float over the weekend and start the draft on Tuesday if that's okay.....

    I am afraid I don't understand.

    More explaining if you please.

  5. Peanuts ?????????

Yeah, that's as close as I could get without tripping the profanity filtre.

    Cheers, Hester

I have too much time on my hands this morning mates...

PEA NUSS works without tripping the filter.

  6. So, I decided to do a POTC-inspired haunt for the Jaycee's Haunted House this year. (I've been doing at least one room a year for the last 15 years.) I don't have photos of the whole room on the web yet, but the centerpiece was a prop of Jack the Monkey.

The whole thing was inspired by a conversation I had with Iron Bess asking her about getting Disney to make a life-sized, undead Jack the Monkey prop. Then it occurred to me..."You know how to do this. Make your own freakin' monkey!" So I did. You can see him here.

I love it! Thanks for sharing your photo of Jack.

  7. Some more information:

There are no hotels on the island. If you go you can normally rent a room from someone that lives on the island. I would think sailing with be the best way to get there. At least then you have your ship to crash on. :)

  11. I am hitting the big 40 in 6 days. :(

I am not handling it to well this year for some reason.

I was feeling extremely down about it, then it hit me~ have a party.

Mark a milestone in a good way.

Otherwise, I think I would have had a very upsetting weekend...

I am planning on marking the occation with my first Tattoo. I have one of two things in mind. A gothic Ankh or the Skull & Cross Bones.

  12. Hi, Captain Trade Wind:

    Many thanks for your research!

So, I shall stay clear of Tortuga for the time being, but I'll keep hoping that the political situation in Haiti improves (even more so for the benefiet of the Haitian people themselves than for wannabe tourists like me).

    Cheers, Hester

Aye. That makes two of us. I have been trying to find more info but keep coming up short.

and please call me Trade.

  13. Well it does not appear to be a migraine, since the immitrex (sp) did not work and now I can barely hear out of my right ear, and there is some pain there too. I am in the office today, but it looks like only a half day though.

Here is what I have been able to find out using my sources:

Travel to Haiti, Including Ilea de la Tortue (Tortuga) is considered EXTREMELY RISKY! The island is said to have some wonderful beaches, however getting to the island is very difficult and may not be safe due to the unrest across the country.

I can not even locate any hotel information on the island which is not a good sign. According to an article in a 2004 copy of “Travel Agent Magazine” on Haiti, the island are very primitive, by our standards and even compared to the “main land” Haiti.

Now that is not to say if they can get the government under control, and then the people that with the right investment capital that it could not become a tourist paradise, but at the moment all my security sources say STEER CLEAR.

    This is pretty sad. B)

  14. Remember what Mary Poppins said:

"Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down!"

    Cheers, Hester

I just could not resist this...

And remember what Blackbeard once said...

"A measure of Gunpowder helps the rum go down."

  15. ...What's more, this weekend I found Pyrates magazine on the shelves of a local Barnes & Noble a full month (or more) after NOT finding it there.

What I can now see is that there are distribution problems... but it is getting where it needs to be.

I worked for them years ago when the first made their way to Richmond, and it did seem to take a few months to get new 'zine's on the shelf...

Notice not calling it a rack. Racks are more fun!:huh:
