Do you know what the one in Black John's pic is?
Ah! Thank ye quite kindly, 'Tis a thing "o" beauty!!

Take it from someone who works in a major airport and sees baggage tossed, thrown, soaked, kicked, slammed and otherwise abandoned and abused, .. ship it FedEx. Don't trust the baggage system with your valuables.
FedEx uses their own planes and people and has a standard of excellence. UPS would be ok too but they are no FedEx.
Hope this helps..

I'm in Wisconsin.
I'm just considering the cross over and the practicality. I want one of the dog locks! But perhaps it would be more practical to pick up a musket before.
I plan to go with a pistol very soon, but the next purchase is up in the air.
Thanks again

EEeek! I like this one ! Gives me the right chills!!
"It would be as though he were in a ship of stone, with masts of steel, sails of lead, ropes of iron, the devil at the helm, the wrath of God for a breeze, and hell for his destination"

He enjoyed long stretches of pure delight such as only a seaman may know

History is like that....very chancy

She comes majestic with her swelling sails,
The gallant Ship: along her watery way,
Homeward she drives before the favouring gales;
Now flirting at their length the streamers play,
And now they ripple with the ruffling breeze.

While you're on this subject, I rather like the one BlackJohn is carrying in his profile pic. Anyone know what it is? How heavy in weight are these? I assume a lot more than a modern rifle?

Ok, It seems ye are all quite a bit in the know of such things..
I have long wondered on the subject of dental health on a ship. I know all the info about scurvy and bad water, lack of adequate nutrition etc...
But I have often wondered about care of tooth issues.
Having been the victim of more than one "Kill me now I can't stand it" wisdom tooth episodes which left me living on Excedrin and unintentionally portraying one posessed over a holiday weekend..
How would a pirate handle this? With rum having sugar in it, poor nutrition and hard biscuits, no to mention no asperin that I know of. The only thing I can figure is perhaps their diet wasn't as hard on the teeth as our modern day food laced with corn syriup and such.
While we're at it any thought on Gold teeth fact vs movies?
Arrrgghhh teeth! necessary but cursed

Ahh thank ye Capt Tito I believe these be the blokes ye refer to?

Avast! I'm a newcomer to the festival end of things here, I've been to Key West plenty of times as well as Bermuda (My fave),
Bahamas, Saint Maarten, Cozumel, All over Florida and down the Seine in Paris on a pretty nice vessel except it lacked sails. lol

When I was 6, I stole my brother's halloween tricorn pirate hat and proceeded to wear it for three months till it ripped and the string fell off. Needless to say the rest is history! Always lived by the water and find modern life to be like Generic cereal. You can eat it if you add some stuff that's more exciting/fun once in a while.
I work at JFK in NY and really want to come down for this. I'd be on me own tho so I was wonderin if anyone else is traveling from this area?
To board a plane as a group would be great. I have some friends at Jet Blue and if there were enough people might be able to swing a real fun trip (Can't promise anything as far as price goes).
I have stayed at the Marina when it was the HIlton, but haven't been back in a while.
1 more question, whet is the next festival/event after PIP? In case my schedule doesn't allow me to attend? Thanks all and hi!

Wow I knew you would come through! Interesting! I was trying to imagine being on a ship in the hot sun or a blowing gale with your head about to explolde.
I figure if they meant to be sucessful in their voyages and plunders, pirates would have to look after their health in some way despite getting grubby and sweaty. I'd be interested to see if there were any requirements in ship's rules for keeping of health so as not to endanger the usefuleness of ones'self or the rest of the crew.
Dont know much about apothecary of the period, but I suppose there must have been herbal remedies as mentioned.
Are there logs of ships surgeons that might tell this in depth? NOt that I'm looking for the yucky stuff, just to see what they had to fight maladies of the time.
