I have some of the pieces and they're beautiful - she's got a real eye for pirate jewelry - i put my hair dangle on the back of me hat... and I have a similar necklace too - it's very heavy and well made. Not the chinzy stuff you find there sometimes.

The goddess is selling hair jewelry with coins and such as well as a smashing silver necklace and coin bracelet. Some of the items are up tomorrow (3/11) but more are on the way I do hear.

I highly recommende Jeykl The Hidesmith - http://jekylthehidesmith.com/ - he's made several pieces for me and they're all top notch... and if it isn't perfect, he'll fix it right away (such as size issues). Great custom work on all levels.

So I wonder... who would operate and run this adventure? I mean, even with a small weekend, there's always operating costs (advertising, permits, privvies) and they have to be captured and reported by someone or something. The real pirates (spelled IRS) always want a piece of the action.

Not to be a spoil sport, but I've run these things before and someone always seems to point them in my direction (he says, with a slight paranoid twinge in his rum-soaked brain). They always seem to be a good idea until one delves deeper.

And another take, isn't it the Society of the Wanted? Who didn't "want" pirates? Even the Lost Boys wanted to kill 'em.

Planning an impromptu voyage with a small crewe is easy. We do it all the time up here. Three or four of us will simply show up at a neighborhood pub one of us knows and start the party. Someone will start asking in no time why you're all dressed up and you simply ask, "Why aren't you?" or "I thought you had the costume on, hmm". Pretty soon an boring evening in a pub turns into a lot of fun.

And if anyone is timid about just rolling into a place unannounced, say you've just come from an appearance somewhere else and needed a drink. Then start the party.

Of course, we often actually go somewhere first - retirement homes are aching for people to show up and just visit with their residents. Call an activity director and make an appointment - they'll be thrilled - play some games with them, sing songs, interact - they'll love you for it...

Local junk shops - stay away from the "antique" stores - they prize them way too much. Go to the antique malls where multiple merchants have stalls. There is always a good supply of them around - just need patience. I located my in a similar place in Seattle for $60 and it was in perfect condition with event the two drawers inside intact. So the deals are around...

The problem with ebay isn't the quality - it's the shipping. These things aren't light and the shipping will kill you even on a deal there. Go local or regional...

The idea of rotating locations has worked with other events - one one coast one year, the other coast the next and then somewhere in between - in the landlock dry waters of the central Americas. But a question - if the event is adults only, then I would assume the public wouldn't be invited to participate as it would be hard to regulate it. So that means a more private type event, correct?

It's easy enough to make your own and then you can get it looking just like you want it to as far as material and length. More sturdy material needs less length before it holds up well on its own - softer material, like a satin - needs to be much longer as it takes more turns to get the bulk correct and give it some stamina. Otherwise it just plops over and covers up the belt or your accessories.

Leave a good length dangling so you can mop up stuff with it or wipe a sweaty brow in the heat of battle.

None of mine have the fringe - for me it looked too Shriners...

I wear a sash under me belt. Makes the belt stand out more and the best part is it's good for wiping up spilled grog or lipstick from yer face. Very handy accessory.

West Seattle proper doesn't have any hotels or motels. But there are some very near by in south Seattle as well as downtown. Most of our mates dock at the Georgetown Inn, about 10 minutes from the 10 and right off an exit ramp from I-5.

Getting there is easy. Head up I-5 towards Seattle. Take the West Seattle Freeway exit off I-5. Go over the bridge. Stay in the right hand lane... Take the Admiral Way exit. Head up the hill. The TNT is located just past the first traffic light on the right, right across from the Jack in the Box. The address is 4212 Admiral Way... It's just a wee bit of a place, but it will be packed with pirates and wenches so you're more than welcome to come aboard, mate!

Has anyone had experience putting together a festival here? Just curious... I know that the ones we have done have required permits from municipalities to discharge weapons, etc. And the ones on private lands still require a fair amount of liability insurance to protect the organizers from lawsuits should something go awry. As said above, it's a sue happy world. And then there are issues relating to sanitation, hygiene, an umbrella organization to collect monies (as there are always costs involved) and pay the necessary taxes... From my experience it's a darned lot of work to create anything on a formal, larger scale than a local crewe party. Just ask Julie at PiP...

I certainly would welcome such an event, just want to make sure that there's some grounding in the realities of putting on these types of events on any level but a friendly gathering in the woods for a weekend.

And if you happen to be a Seafair Pirate, don't bother coming - there's no room at the inn for ya, mates!

There's way too much testosterone flowing here.  I've got no issues with people trading ideas or offering up oppinions.  In fact my own views have changed a bit cause of this thread.  What gets old is the head buttin of those with different opinions who think theirs is best.  Remember opinions are like farts.  Everyone's but yours stinks.

Thought I smelled something. Must be me. I've already left a lifetime of not so fragrant opinion here. Almost lost me sense of humor in the process (which would leave me with nothing but me looks)... :)
