I believe they are for fingers or thumbs to help guide the saw, particularly with the first swipes through the skin and bone. I have similar drawings from Randle Homes Academy of Armory that shows a more ornate saw. This is in forme and fashion like the Ioyners Tenant Saw, onely this hath the handle and the back all made of Iron worke: with this bones are Sawed asunder, when either a Legg, or Arme is to be taken off. By the benefite of a Screw, the Saw plate is made either strait, or more loose, in the iron frame. This one's my favorite... The Terebellum, or Terebellum with a Screw, is an hollow pipe, with a square shouldering and two handles like to the Forceps, through which Pipe goeth a long Piercer, with a most sharp Worm, or Screw at the end, which being conveyed into a wound made by a Gun-shot by the help of the Pipe in which it is hidden, when the Bullet is felt in the Wounds, then the Piercer is Screwed out of the Pipe into the Bullet, by which meanes it is drawn out, and the wound healed. -- Hurricane

It's still early to give a firm number but we may be up to 20 this year in the Port Royal encampment, up from 11 last year. -- Hurricane

Stop over at the Catt & Fiddle to sing it Silkie. We opted not to do period music. The group didn't want to learn songs they don't like just to be proper to 1681. So we're sticking with the stuff everyone looks forward to singing rather than have them dread it. Don't want the scoundrels planning a mutiny on me. -- Hurricane

Man, that's pretty. Wish I had a place to put it in my home. I can see why you favor it so. -- Hurricane

We are already in full swing. We have a couple new crewe members who are teaching us brawling, fighting, fire, swordplay... and it should be really something at the Catt & Fiddle for the public to enjoy. We plan to have five or six more period games than we had last year to teach everyone in the tavern as well. We didn't have time to decipher some of them from the "magic book" we have on the subject. We are so looking forward to seeing your gang too. Do you have a video projector by the way that we could borrow if we do the Port Royal presentation? What did you use last year for the slide show? -- Hurricane

Now there's a good guess. Bet you're right! I just came back with the stools for the bar. They're from Linens n Things... -- Hurricane

For those in the south and midwest, or those who want to combine shipping, I found the source of most of my bar pieces that I showed photos of elsewhere. Not bad pricing, considering what you're getting. They also have cool wall kegs that actually hold booze. http://kentuckybarrels.com/ -- Hurricane

Well Done....plum piratical look'n......I admire that barrel.....not lots of them around here...I'm drool'n with envy. Ah, the barrel. It's from Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom. I have another one over by the sofa that we use for an end table. I'll have to get around to taking photos of the rest of the room... The rest of it are old crates, an oak box we got surplus (shipping crate kind) a board from Home Depot that we stained and some other flotsam and jetsam. We originally used two large oak barrels instead of all the smaller stuff but the smelled so badly of vinegar we couldn't bear to bring them in the house. So they remain in the garage and we just improvised from there. Turns out it is much smaller for us to ship to Key West so we'll be leaving the barrels home this year and go with this look instead. The back credenza is just a buffet we happened to have around. But I think it turned out amazingly well. Will post the other photos of the great room when I get a chance. Thanks all for the compliments. Anytime you're on the Space Coast the bar is open here. -- Hurricane

This is our newest project. We took the bar we use in Port Royal at PiP and decided to move it in house.... you'll notice we have way too many swords in the chest... :) -- Hurricane

Greetings all! For those who haven't been at PiP or were passed out last year, I thought I'd let you know what we're doing this year over at the buccaneer camp. It will be a year later than last (duh!) so it will be 1681. We will once again be doing the Catt & Fiddle Tavern, at the corner of Lime and Queen in the heart of the dock are of Port Royal. This year, we will be making the bar area even better, doing more historical games and having a couple fights each day in the pub. Plus, I am planning to do my historical presentation on Port Royal in the evenings after it gets a little darker. I did it initially a PyrateCon and everyone there keeps asking me to do it again. And what better place than the Catt & Fiddle at PiP? In the bar each day will be period discussions on the politics of the times, life in Port Royal, the characters that are in town each day, the damned plantation owners and the Privvy Council. We will also be doing the sugar cane pressing again. We also have a cannon crew in training for the fort battles. That's it for the moment. Just wanted to make an opening statement. Oh, and here's where the pub is right now... in our house. Thought you'd like to see it in its new every day home. -- Hurricane

We count on the Archangel coming in for a little brawling, sir! What would a good brawl be like with bottles cracking over heads without the likes of your crewe there. -- Hurricane

We are indeed doing 1681 Port Royal at the Catt & Fiddle this year. We would love to have a Lilly stop by and entertain now and again, or just be fawned over by the reprobates that populate our part of the fort. We also plan to have several bar brawls this year in the Catt & Fiddle. So anyone that wants to brawl can come play with us in that respect. And as you recall we have the usual bar games and period tavern all set up. I think we just gained a set painter on the crewe so who knows, we may be going nuts this year with the tavern. :) I will create a new section for our scenario so you can see what we're up to this year. -- Hurricane

Strange how the world of karma works. Escape a marina bill and foreclosure and the ship sinks beneath ya. Thank god everyone is safe. But it's amazing how the "gods" seek a balance in the world. Hard to believe they have the money to buy another ship but not pay their docking bills. -- Hurricane

I think we should just all stand upwind of the city folk and give them a good whiff of honest seamen -- uh, seamen sweat, that is. -- Hurricane -

I must confess to doing a great jig on deck with a belly full of rum and a tossing sea, but it usually ends up with my head over the rail. So much for having any sense of rhythm. It looks like we must put the ball on our social schedule. Hell, I may actually have to bathe for the evening. Damned society events. Always creating one falderal or another for an otherwise honest purveyor of purloined goods. -- Hurricane -

Doesn't she know how that scars kids? I still have nightmares about being taught how to square dance in elementary school with Tamara Fawcett... that stuff really sticks with ya! So, should we put the ball on our radar? Is is a worthwhile time? -- Hurricane -

We are all set Captain. Diosa, Sully and I will be arriving on Thursday evening so we'll be all set to roll for the three days. We pull up anchor Monday morning and head to Williamsburg for a brief visit before heading south to the Floridas again. We look forward to seeing you all again and my old friend Ben Cherry, who've I sailed with now and again for some 20 years now. -- Hurricane -

We are awaiting word for Sulley to firm up plans. It looks ideally like we will be at anchor by Friday morning, stay through Sunday then head out to Williamsburg while we're there for Monday before heading home. It's about 14 hours from here and we will be picking up Sulley in Savannah on the way. We found really good hotel deals on hotwire.com so we're slotting one of those in for the dates as we speak. -- Hurricane -
Much more efficient. Kudos to you captain for always thinking about the expedience of our activities - leaves more time for drinkin' it does. -- Hurricane
