  1. I have head both good and bad reviews on POTC 2. I guess we'll have to see if it was worth the wait. Just remember, as RumbaRu says...wait after the credits...should see a bit of fun at the end!
  2. Looking at it from the Marketing Shots - It looks more like a stage, if this is true...the surrounding area will have to be a bit higher to get the full effect of the Ship and for the public to view the stage. It's big, considering the construction company in Oshkosh, WI moved it down via trailer (in several sections) to bring it to Kenosha, WI.
  3. One of the letters which Mistress Lilly had written from her own personal account, to be read by one person alone, had fallen from her pocket unto the street facing the harbor near the Ship, Lucifer. In it, the letter has such a tone; one that could only be described as a letter of desperation and despair... Mistress Catherine Gray, The Empress Care of The Empress of the Seas Coffee House Two shops down from My Lady's Mantua Shop on the corner of King and James Streets Facing the Great Piazza, Covent Garden London, England Empress, I have been deceived, as have you. We live a wretched life of being used by men and yet, we use them in return. I fear that you will soon feel the wrath of Lord Darnly and to my dismay; he will take his dislike and anger out upon you. Forgive me. It was not my intension of parting with you in such a fashion, but I had to leave…with the hope of starting a new life and mayhap, to find Captain Sterling. Again forgive me for my deception and my lies for stealing away that evening with your best dress and your biscit money I found under the floorboard. Hopefully with time your anger has soothed. Fate has been kind to me, Empress. I have found Captain Sterling here in Port Royal and yet, he is in great need of a physician. He is weak, pale and worries all the time now that his Ship, the Archangel may not muster another voyage. It now lays in wait to be fitted. I have come all this way to look him in the face…and yet…I have not found my center of strength in my heart to tell him why I am here. Life is cruel, Empress. I would beg, borrow, and steal to keep myself alive…and yet, now my life will has changed and will never be the same. I pray that God will find it in His heart to forgive me for my selfish nature. Your Favorite, Mistress Lilly McKinney
  4. Thank thee...I will have to look at past threads!
  5. Ya! And just to hear BONO and STING put their 'two-cents' in on some of the classics should be worth the coin!
  6. We shouldn't be surprised...with the popularity of the first moive...several well known Rockers such as BONO, STING and NICK CAVE are among the stars who have reworked classic pirate tunes and sea chanteys for a new album inspired by JOHNNY DEPP's PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies. The big names join BRYAN FERRY, JARVIS COCKER, ANDREA CORR, RUFUS WAINWRIGHT and CHICAGO star JOHN C REILLY on upcoming double album ROGUES GALLERY: PIRATE BALLADS, SEA SONGS + CHANTEYS (corr). The 43-song album was the brainchild of Pirates of The Carribean director GORE VERBINSKI. He says, "I slowly became fascinated by the idea of a contemporary reinterpretation of the sea chantey. "I imagined the artists that I listen to and respect doing their take on this age-old music." Highlights of the album include Reilly's rendition of MY SON JOHN, FIRE DOWN BELOW by Cave and STING's version of sea song BLOOD RED ROSES. Let us hope that they do justice to the songs of this age!
  7. Just wanted to note that this is the opening weekend for the Bristol Ren Faire located in Kenosha, WI (on the boarder between WI and IL). The big feature this year is a period correct ship of the Queen's fleet during the 1570s. Log on over to their website (www.renfair.com/bristol) and take a look! P.S. Love to see if I can't get a group together and venture down there for a weekend
  8. The actress yawned as she sealed the last letter with silver sealing wax that Captain Sterling so graciously gave to her. Lilly’s fingers were stained with indigo ink and the tip of her quill nearly a nub now. She was on a mission to make sure that both her letters and Captain Sterling’s were upon the Lucifer that morning. It had been a very long night. She had sat at the far table in the tavern that evening finishing up the last of her posts as dawn broke. She looked about the tavern to see that most of the crowd had disappeared into the night or laid drunk upon the floor of the tavern. She rubbed her eyes for the moment and yawned again. She knew that she must make it to the docks before 8 bells. Quickly, Lilly tied the letters up in ribbon and placed them into her pocket. As she walked to the door she heard a rustling sound coming from the other side of the bar. She thought nothing of it until she heard the shattering of a jug and a voice deeply laden with ale muttered to her. “D’ya hear me call for ye, Lass?” Lilly turned and looked at the man standing behind the bar. “Ney.” She whispered and reached for the door. “I do not hear you Raskal at the Bar! I shall not hear the likes of ye!” The young man quickly lent over the bar and held her wrist. “Come now, letters in abundance and all to England, this does not look promising, does it?”
  9. Squire Robert Darnly White Hall London England Squire Darnly, I would truly understand that upon the arrival of this letter, you would dissolve our relationship. Knowing that I left London without forwarding you a letter of my true intensions, I fear that I took quickly to following my heart and disregarded the proper etiquette of notifying you of my leave. But here is your letter in hand and I pray that you will take kindly to my requests. I have arrived in Port Royal less than two days past. I have aquired lodgings and soon will proceed in obtaining a meeting with the local Magistrate about a theater here. There is much money to be made here and there are many who have a pocket full of coin! Whence I left London's stage, I was presented a manuscript of a new play based upon the Turkish/Moorish Prince and his lost love. They will adore the chance to see such a spectacle! The Port swarms with English and Spanish alike. It will entertain them both and I will claim the lead in this production. Pray, now my request. If you would be so kind to forward my montly allowence for the next four months, I promise you that I will give you 2/3 the reciepts from the play. I will keep you informed of the progress. If you could please send the monies in care of the Three Crowns where I will be staying, I will be most greatful. Your endearing passion Lilly McKinney Do send word to the Empress that I have arrived safetly.
  10. She again soothed his brow with a cool wet linen. "I arrived just two days ago. I thought it best to leave London and perhaps find my fortune here in Port Royal. It has been a long voyage, but I have found lodgings at the Three Crowns and soon will speak with the local magistrate about opening up a theater here for those longing for a good thespian to entertain them all." The Captain's eyes closed for a moment, then opened slowly as if he once again tried to forcus on the figure in front of him. The silence from him made Lilly bristle. "Do not think that me coming here to aid you in your time of need has made me change my mind, Captain." She whispered. Suddenly his face fell. As if she had struck him straight across the face. "It is just by chance I was in the Pub when you took leave of your senses. I was the only one brave enough to assist you." The Captain quickly grabbed her hand as she tried to take the linen from his forehead. "Then...you feel nothing for me, Mistress?" She froze for a moment.
  11. She stands there blushing... "Oh, 'tis my mistake Captain!"
  12. captain rolling eyes.... Lilly just smiles back at her Captain. "Very well...so I'm a handful...'tis what you said you liked!"
  13. This says it ALL! (Lilly just grins at the Captain)... The Charismatic You're beyond seductive, you're downright magnetic! You life live and approach seduction on a grand scale. You have an inner self confidence and energy that most people lack It's these talents that make you seem extraordinary - and you truly are!
  14. After the crew of the Archangle collected Captain Sterling, Lilly followed suit from the tavern. As she walked upon the deck, the men whispered between themselves. Surely, this was not a good sign. It was bad enough that their Captain was dying, but now to have that woman upon their ship...only more sorrow would come of it. The Captain had already had his heart broken by this woman, not once but twice, and the crew knew that she would only give him more heartache. Down below the decks in the Captain's Quarters Lilly sobs quietly over the body of Captain Sterling. She trys to make him as comfortable as possible. "Please Captain." She whispers as she wipes is pale brow with water. "Ye are going to be just fine. " First Mate Andrew March enters the Captain's quarters with the physician. "There is talk about towne that this man may have brought the plague to Port Royal. " Lilly's eyes widen. "No, it cannot be!" She looked over at Andrew March with deep concern. "He was fine when he left England seven months ago!" The physician began to inspect his arms, legs, belly and neck for the small rosey rings upon his body. "If he has the plague no one is safe. Lilly looks back at the physician. "He cannot die. I shall pay you what ever you wish...just save him!" From her pocket she pulls a large gold broach laiden heavy with pearls. "Here...take it! It's all I have of the moment. I'll get more, please just save him." The Physician looks down at the bobble. "I am not even sure he has the plague yet, Mistress. Let us see if we can first find out what the matter is with him. But until then...no one leaves this ship!"
  15. Lilly was horrified by the turn of events. As she sat, cradling her old lover's head in her lap, she saw a man approach. Claiming to be the harbour master, he quickly suggested that Sterling be carted off to a room. An argument then commenced between the owner of the tavern and the harbour master that the sick man was not welcome there. "He can have my room," Lilly said. "I haven't given you yer room yet!" the tavern owner snapped at the young girl. "Well I think it be best you give the lady her room now, " the harbour master interjected. "I have to put a quarantine on ye now any how, seeing how the gentleman collapsed in your establishment. You best put out your best drink and food for a while... to keep folks happy until the Mr. Stenbom arrives and gives you all permission to disburse." "The bloody hell I will!" The owner shouted. "I did not ask this fella here and certainly..." The harbour master looked at the owner hard. "Shut you down will I on a more permanent basis if you don't comply. Which ship is he from?" he added looking down at Lilly. "The Archangel," the actress replied. "Very well then. We shall have her quarantined as well," he turned to Morgan. "Sir Henry, I suggest you be making your way home and handsomely at that, until I know more from the doctor. If enough hands of the Archangel be about town, I may have to speak to the Governor about closing the port."
  16. Lilly looked about the Pub. Once a crowded and rowdy place, now stood dead silence. Lilly looked back up at Sir Morgan. "Please, help him!" She whispered. Morgan quickly stepped back from the Captain's body. "Pray Sir, what is wrong?" Again Lilly asked. The crowd in the Pub soon look anxious and very nervous.
  17. Lilly screamed in horror as she saw the Captain hit the floor. "John!" She quickly ran to his side. As she knelt down and took his head into her lap she felt his forehead. "He's burning!" She quickly looked up at Sir Morgan. "Make Haste! Send for a physician!"
  18. Lilly wandered about Port Royal, after the service. After conversing with one of the more repectable shopkeepers she quickened her pace and made for the Three Crownes. She struggled to get through the mob of all too excited men. What was it about men, she thought. Always ready to rush in to get themselves killed. She rolled her eyes thinking such a waste. "Good sir, " she began with the older gentleman behind the bar. "I have need of a lady's room for the night and for longer if your accomodations are suitable, which," she hesitated as she looked about the room. "Which I shall put to judgement over the next few days." She turned back and looked up at the gentleman who had moved closer to her. "A room ye want Mistress?" he repeated, making sure he had heard her correctly above the din. "Aye, yes, that is correct. And meals as well," Lilly explained further. "I think I may have one that is free for one such as yerself," he leaned closer to her and whispered. "Ye plan not to carry on any business of yer own in my place do ye?" Lilly's face hardened. And despite her beauty and softness of appearance, it was clear she was someone to be reckoned with. "Perhaps I did not hear thee clearly," Lilly said coldly. The gentleman straightened. "Let me see," he replied and stepped away from her. Lilly took the chance to survey the packed room. She smiled as she caught the eye of the man who had been so bold as to stare at her during the service. She made herself a promise, if he raised his glass to her, perhaps she would join him for a meal. She sighed then. From the looks of him, she would be the one needing to pay. Still... she continued to survey the crowd. Ah, there was a very tantilzing young major as the main attraction of the moment. Another foolish young fob, she thought... most likely his mind only turns to dreams of glory and honours... and there, she watched a gentleman at the end of the bar. His back was to her. Tall, well build and impecable dressed but already making a conquest of the pretty barmaid... "Well I do like competition and the Empress has taught me well or I would not be the toast of London Towne, " she said to herself. But before she could make her way to interupt, Sir Henry burst into the pub and made directly to the man she had set her sites on. Lilly had never been so taken aback in her life as she was when Sir Henry called out "Captain Sterling....may I have a word with you, sir?" and the gentleman and questioned turned to face the approaching Admiral. "JOHN STERLING!" Lilly snapped and all she could see was red.

  20. "Flirting in Church is a sin". Lilly thought to herself as she acknowledged the man in the pew across from her. She closed her eyes for a moment. She knew no one here, yet...was her past going to catch up with her? When she heard the Church bells rang out, she followed the crowds into the Church for the bereavement ceremony. Such a sorrowful day she thought to herself. She sat quietly in the pew as she looked about the room. She saw Lady B. sitting close to the front of the Chaple. Off to the side she saw Admiral Morgan and Lord Modyford not far from one another. She was surprised to see Skittles March there. She sat alone and in her best dress, marked with the colors and flair of her native land. Lilly's face suddenly felt flushed. If she was here, then her loving husband would be too...and surly, her Sweet Captain wouldn't be that far behind. But alas, she did not see him anywhere, no Andrew March. The Church was crowded and too uncomfortable for a day such as this. The air did not move in the church and though the ceremony was respectfully short, she still desired the open air of a courtyard. After the last prayer was said, she stood in line for her blessing. Her mind drifted and she knew that she had to find lodgings for the month. She had money enough for a nice clean room and meals, but where? She turned back once again towards the alter and knelt quickly for her blessing the young man who caught her eye before winked at her. Her eyes widened. "Amazing" she whispered to herself. "Is there no respect for the dead?"
  21. Damn it all Mimi! All of them...I've played with 'em all! God Bless them. Dale was kind on the eyes...he made me very nervous with that letcherous smile of his. I saw him out in OH one year doing a Ren Faire there...he was shocked to see me and me twin. Damn (again). I wish I knew how to down load photos onto this contraption. I've had no luck with my avatar either. Anyone out there who can help a computer challenged chick such as meself? Yes, I hear that Doug and Mike (Don Juan and Migaule sp?) have purchased some property up there and making something of a retirement egg for themselves. I hear they have just finished their maze. I do know that they've done this at other Faires too! By the way, Mimi...do you remember a clothing booth called "The Celtic Woman?" It was across the way from Mary and Marty - star throw. Oh..and sadly...we lost Bosh (our good Queen Bess about three or four years ago- She took Marilyn's position when her and her hubby decided to 'work for the Rat' down in FL.
  22. Ah now Richards, that is where period correct be better... there arn't no bloomers, or knickers ... what could be more easy access than just lifting a skirt? Quite right you are about the 'underpinnings' Captain Sterling. Yet, working up at Sterling Ren Faire (we're talking Oswego, NY not Tuxedo, NY people)...there would be 'bloomer inspections' every Saturday and Sunday morning at the Turkey Leg booth and at the Dark Horse and White Horse Pub. Shame really that it had to come down to this. All the girls were trying to get coin by show a bit more than they should...and of course, the Health Department isn't very understanding to 'period correctness' of the Faire either.
  23. Perhaps the "Thumbing of One's Nose?" Twenty three years!...You must have been about whilest I was there myself...I do remember a few faces in my day...names perhaps you know too? Eric Heath (Ax Thrower & Booth Owner), Patrick Johnson (Crusty Karbunkel, Cheese of Albany), and my fav...Peter Soiree...
  24. Voice from above deck drew Lilly topside. As she made her way to the side of the ship she could see the docks and the bustle of people in the harbor. There was an abundance of business occuring this day. She could see Lady Barbossa conduct business with another man. Who, by the way he was dressed was a man of some position. Lilly looks about the docks and is ready to depart from the ship with her meager belongings in tow. Once again she skimms the docks. Slaves moves wares and produce from one side of the docks to another. Her eyes soon fall upon two men towards the point. It is then her breath escapes her just then. "Ney, it cannot be?!" She whispers to herself. She leans closer off the side to take a closer look. Everything about him was correct. His height, his statcher..except for the dark hair...it could be him. She quickly made her way down the gangway towards the two men. "Dear God...if it is him..." She muttered to herself as she dodged her way through the crowded port street. As she drew near towards the two men, she quickly focused on the man she thought she knew. As he turned toward her, she quickly dashed behind a cart. Her heart stopped for a moment. Peering around the edge she examined him once more. Yes, it was her beloved Captain Sterling. 'Twas the same man whom she denyed not once, but twice for her hand in marriage. She peered closer into his face only to see the horrid scar and the dead left eye. An injury that he recieved so many years ago trying to save his ship and the rest of his crew from pyrates. Yet, while looking at him she knew that he was not well. He stood pale and sweating. His color drained from his cheeks and the looks of feaver graced his brow. She quickly dashed behind the cart again. "He must not find me here." She whispered to herself. It is then she slowly turns and walks back to the main harbor street. She needed time to think and to find lodgings.
