Your hat looks great, Redvipers! A job well-done!
I'd suspect that's a bust of Napoleon wearin' the chapeau, did I not know that you are an officer of His Majesty's Royal Naval forces!
Might it be Nelson, instead?
Capt. William
I'm afraid it not be Napoleon nor Lord Nelson.....the bust be a one eyed pirate and aye, tis true I be a King's officer, Captain of the HMS Defiant (74) on the Bolitho Discussion Group and Captain of the Seminole frigate on the Broadsides and Boarding Parties 1776 Discussion Group, Thou I be on leave from both to work on my 2nd book (Pursuit of Honor) in my Beauchamp of the Royal Navy series.

The Royalist is a nice looking vessel for sure., but you cant take away anything from., the lines of

or especially these two

If you really like the west coast ships....,The Lady Washington., The Royalist., and the Hawaiian Chieftain...., then youd HAVE TO LIKE THESE., theyre classic., and beautiful and if they werent ., then Disney wouldnt be using one of them for the new film.

Well Sir, You must agree that beauty and authenticity is not exactly the same thing. With some work the St. Pete could be much better-looking….er says some gun ports. Still I would gladly pay her slip fee if’n she were mine. :)

I love your hat! I'm thinking about making some hats by hand for myself and my man, and was wondering where you grabbed that original image from, and where you purchased that particular hat blank. Is it fur felt or wool felt?
Thanks!
Akashazuul
Here is where I bought the hat
berkelyhat It is velour fur felt. I am very well pleased with the quality of this $29 hat blank. I ordered it last Saturday and received it Thursday.
The biggest problem is that it is a yahoo store and in order to buy it with a credit card I had to sign up with yahoo to get a secure key.
Good luck with your hat making.

Does the Land Shark still count as a boat?!!!
I put myself down as sailing on someone elses boat (Royaliste) and figured that the Land Shark is too far removed from water to count in the poll.
It might be interesting to add an option to the poll of who has crewed aboard a ship. I know we've got quite a few that have done that, but don't own their own boats. I think it would be interesting to see how many contribute to the sailing of a ship vs go out for rides.
I Was raised on Shrimp boats, then the Big John 3 1/2 years(USS John F. Kennedy) my boat were a commercial crab boat. All Power no sails I'm afraid.
Ah! but some day. I have an invite on the Top sail sloop "Freedom"....might take that this summer.

I'm almost done with the hat. got some gold stuff from Walley World and a small hot glue gun then my First Mate and I attacked our first hat project. Took the photos with my $20 digital camera (also from Walley World) so the photos are grainy...sorry..If you look real close you can see Captain Jack Aubry's head in the background.
Total cost was $52 and the labor was a free learning experience...lol

Here's some fine boats for sale at Sea Dragon. There are many more for sale, and tons that aren't. The following are just some of my favorite after spending a couple hours browsing the sites while waiting for stand down from inspection (in other words, I was really bored).
Ka'iulani (expensive, but nice)
(less expensive)
St. Peter (wipe drool off chin)
Coastie
St. Peter is a nice vessel but in no way does she have the Beautiful lines
that the Royalist has.

Those who plan to visit St. Augustine may be interested to take a sail on the Topsail Schooner Freedon. She has day/evening sailing tours and takes part in Menedez's Birthday, Searl's Raid and other Pirate events.
Visit Freedom's Web site for more information.

I went down to Matanzas Bay this morning to take a look at the Nina. I have posted some photos of here on my site. Take a look, she is beautiful but be damned if I'd want to cross the Atlantic on her.

Beauuuutiful! Big, wooden, and those're some damn fine sails. Mmm. Wish I could go see her in person, as they say. :/
Captain Wolfy Wench
I'm going to take a look at her this morning.....

After finding the ready made hat much too expensive for my taste ($197). I ordered a hat blank with a wide brim. I received it today ($29) and started forming and the preliminary gold trim. It is a good quality and very comfortable to wear. Below is what I hope it will be similar to. I will post a photo when it is completed.
