AFTER ACTION REPORT PIP 2006

Tis grand! -
Murin stood for a moment after Captain Brand smiled down at her excusing himself to look for Tudor and finalize his plans of allowing the ships women to gather in the great cabin. The conversation had been a brief but elicited a range of emotion from the lass. Her thoughts were mirrored by her expressions as they morphed from that of a chastised child, through the blush of one unaccustomed to praise, pride in what had been accomplished, amazement that she should not work, to noticeable surprise at the suggestion of a gathering of the ships women. The young lass’ maw stood agape as she stared after the remarkable man. She lifted her hand and absentmindedly brushed the ever-present stray curls from her eyes as they lit up with a smile and the corners of her lips turned up. How kind he was. He was the captain, he had no need to speak to her. He seemed to want to converse. As she continued to watch the captain move on her mind remained on this thought.

Phill, it has been a few months! Welcome back. -
The Pirates of the West Coast were in there this year along with a characterist but I do not see why all can not co-exist there it is a large space. The pub could even double as the coffee house during the day if the temperatures are not so hot as this year. The biggest problem I see is the heat and keeping the sounds of conversation and entertainment from competing too loudly. I suppose this would be a good time to admit that I didn't explore the fort much so I could be all wrong! That's my two cents ...for what it is worth.

Thank you again Kass!

Young Frankenstein is one of my all time favorite movies. Tis grand that we will have his films and recordings to pass onto other generations!

Thank you Harry. I was most defiantly one of the "not correct but trying to get the correct look" crowd this year. In fact I was the only of that crowd who set up a "tent". I was grateful to those who assisted me with suggestions and instructions for achieving authenticity. I was just as grateful that the same people were understanding that I am a beginner and that my goals may not be the same as theirs. I have a background of theatrical costuming. What reads well on stage at 30 or 40 feet from the audience is a far cry from what reads well in conversation but the appearance can still be maintained if the fabric is not accurate and the pattern is from Simplicity (Sorry Kass ). Yes I have been told that linen will breath much better than the cotton I wore this year. Additionally I guarantee that I will test that myself next year because after the heat wave I suffered through in my cotton puffy sleeved shirt, I am building something new! However, I will not be discarding the cotton. I can use it in a pinch and in cooler climates. I spent more time with the "authentics" but had just as much fun with the actors. This is, to me, part of the beauty of KeyWest and PiP.

I could have sworn that I had previously answered this but I can not find it. Must have been on the deleted thread. The name Silkie was given to me by a dear friend who loves my voice ...it is silky smooth and he seems To be convinced I could lure sailors their doom with a song or a whim! Siren and mermaid were used here in the pub, Sealkie is kindred to both ...depending on which legend you follow (See the link in my signature). Both may apply! Silkie, Sealkie, Silky ...mysterious, alluring, playful ...however you spell it ...it works for me! Additionally we've not touched my silky smooth skin! Here is a related prose that I am fond of. Part the and Me ...tis not my writin.

Wellcome Lilly, tis a fine place you have found here. Ah lass, tis a shame that you missed PiP, twas a grand time. Spike got you here now we needs t'get Spike and his mates here!

mmmm ...so many pirates so little time ...and money! lol -
We need to keep in mind those who may want to attend starting after 2009 and any cost to them if we choose to jury the camp. Also keep in mind that if someone wants to be a Hollywood pirate they are welcome to play at the fort but they may not stay at the fort. This brings a question to mind. This may be a non-issue but I shall ask it just the same. Skirmishes/Battles. Should we consider what involvement non-camp persons will have. We recruited several Hollywood pirates for one battle and they had a grand time. Most did not use black powder and were kept behind those who were firing. I have several thoughts on this. -It looks impressive from the ramparts. -It encourages dress and involvement from the patrons. -It allows some one on one exposure to "authentic" pirates. I can see no reason to exclude them.

AFTER ACTION REPORT PIP 2006

As much as it pains me to say this and disagree with the captain of the Watch Dog, I think the later year would be better. I am, as many of you know, still learning, but is there really THAT MUCH difference in the 16 years between 1704 and 1720? (PM me on this one if you will.) Those of us on the 'Dog could still reminisce about the "good o'l days" in 1704 while living in 1720. Additionally I want to learn it all eventually and this would force me to study ...or find someone who knows better. Heck, it actually works well for me since my character is 20 in July of 1704 and in Dec of 1720 I would be ...36 ...that's just a BIT closer to how old I will be anyway -

I have been waiting to pester him. With over 5000 photos and the holidays coming and their son joining the service soon, and life in general I figured I'd wait until after the first of the year. It has been tough! -
The seventh bell rang above, Murin lay in a hammock swaying as the'Dog moved over the water. She was sent from the surgery to the berth for rest after so many had been wounded and the space was needed in the surgery. She had gone to the surgery after her watch had ended once the schedule of watches had been renewed. Chanalt tended to her relatively minor wounds. The slice on her side barely grazed the skin but the shirt was slit and blood stained now. The surgeons mate cleaned and dressed it then continued his inspection of her bruises, cuts and scrapes. Her shoulder had taken a blow that left a bright blue and red bruise. He tended to her hand last. Blood had dried on the now ragged dressing. He un-wrapped it with care. The look of displeasure on his face was not hidden from the girl. She had reopened the wound on her palm, blood crusted around it once again. After a through cleansing an angry red rimming the opening was revealed. “You will ave a skarr an you may not regain full use or strength in z-and.” She had no reaction except acceptance. She knew she was disobeying the doctors wishes while in battle and the cleanup after wards but she could not disobey those orders given by the Captain and Quartermaster, she went with those on her watch to board the enemy vessel, defend herself and her crew, to subdue any she could so that they may choose to be prisoners or sail the vessel in newly offered freedom. Additionally she could not have sat in the surgery with the severely wounded while she could help to right things on the ’Dog. "You MUST keep it clean. You are to use it seldom. I know you are to mend sails but you will be of no use if you do not heal properly. Return to me again tomorrow so that I may be sure you are complying with my orders" She closed her eyes again and saw the Heron, light and swift dancing o'r the waves. This ship spoke to her. Murin longed to ride the waves on her deck but would, for now, be contented where she was. Life may yet settle into a routine for her here yet. Billy Flint had been moved to the Heron but Nathan Bly remained on the'Dog. And she found an unlikely friend in the tall Patrick Hand. His warm smile and easy conversation had helped her pass some of their recent off time. He possessed the knowledge she lacked and was eager to share it. Her first lession in the tying of several less common knots was full of laughter.

I KNOW it isn't pyritical but this thread has brought a song to mind that I heard in my college years sung th the tune of "Walking Through a Winterland" ...fortunatly I do not remember all of the words to "Walkin-round in Womans Underware."

I also am an artist and work in fabric if help is needed. I like the idea of fabric banners for sinage they store and travel better can be weather proof. Canvas would be the best of course but if we use an acrylic they will last MUCH longer.

Patrick has a point. I admit that the only reason I need to fire my pistol is because I can. Which is why the wolf is firing at the fort ...with their one gun. We need a better scenario than what we didn't have this year. Perhaps one of the Pirate ships has been confiscated by the English even thought it is was sailing under the English flag? The Pirates come to the fort as a threat. ...don't ask me ...I'm new at this.
