William kinda bestowed that nomenclature upon me in relation to the Mercury Crewe some time back. It was due to my still being involved with the WTF and not signing on as a full Mercury crewe member so he said that the Mercury could use a Nefarious Associte... hey, don't pyrates need ashore fence operation to move cargo?!?!

No more travel/play for me this year. DeChartres was it for me, have fun. Will not be on the pub anymore after the month we paid for is over on the net service. Gonna get rid of the land-line too, gotta make cuts everywhere we can. No job, no prospect, and cannot afford to play.

I have a 1981 KZ750 kawasaki motorcylce that I can no longer ride. I put over $1400 in it last year to make sure it is road-ready, and put it in a Motorcycle shop for sale last August. I'll never get my money out of it it seems, been asking $1200 and no takers.

I had the carbs redone, both tires are new, Exhaust is new, chain is new, battery is new, I installed a cut-off switch for the battery so it won't drain while in storage, fresh blue metallic paint, less than 10k actual miles on it. Clear title. Runs as good as a new one. I cannot ride anymore, my body won't take it.

I will take the first $750 or trade for a flintlock gun of equal value, can deliver within the Missouri eight-state region, willing to go 500 miles for the right deal.

I'll try to get photos this weekend when I bring it home from the bike shop.

Times are hard and I hate to take a loss like this but don't have a choice anymore. Contact me by PM if you or anyone you know may be interested in this bike.

I have found that by and large most NPS employees have that arrogance in common with other government bueaucracy employees. With very few notable exceptions. What else do you expect in an era of "progressive" politics anyhow? The government always knows what's best for you and your family doncha know?

"Twill" is/was another less-than-complimentary term for stitch-counters etc. It is out-dated and never really got "popular" as did some other less-than-complimentary terms, more of an east-coast thing I think. Twill being a type of fabric weave, it was applied to those who were more into authenticity than hollywood/fantasy and so-on and so-on.

Agree with Rusty here. I know a couple of smoothbore shooters that make rifle men walk back to camp with heads hung low.

Pistol shooting with one hand is the "norm" prior to modern combat training. I still do no matter what I'm shooting, as I shoot instinctively and the sights are merely a reference point in my secondary vision, not my primary focus. he primary focus is always on the spot of the target i want to hit. (aim-small/miss-small). It's like pointing your finger at something and knowing when to squeeze without taking a lot of time to line up sights . After sufficient practice it just becomes "natural", like hitting the trash can with a paperwad everytime from your desk at the office, etc.

Our rural electric co-op puts out a monthly magazine and they feature Missouri businesses in each issue. A few months back, earlier this year they did feature a home-grown cooper business that makes barrels for the wine and whiskey industries. The guy that started the business was really knowledgeable and the article stated that he had been researching barrel history as far back as he could. I don't know if they are doing wooden hopps but I doubt it for everyday production, as there would be very little demand, but they might be willing to do some custom work. I'll dig around and see what i can find for contact info.

So we're talking about m-80's and cherry bombs then? Cool! I love those things still. Make my own occaisionally just to hear the big bang! Love to send paint cans airborne for the kids to watch... but kids; don't try this at home!!! So they're called "squibs are they? Now I'll know what to say when someone asks "what the hell was that!!!???"

Yellow mustard on burns too. Keeps the burn from scarring and blistering as badly as it can untreated. I always keep a bottle in the shop when forging, cutting and welding. One of the welding shops I worked in kept a gallon jug of it in the lunchroom fridge for that very purpose. Works to relieve the pain instantly also. I've had to make use of it a time or two. Reduces the damage considerably, the quicker you apply it, the better the results.

I knew/understand pickling has been around for ages, pickled meat and vegetables have been on ships at least since colubus sailed for the Indies. I was just clearing up my mistake on pickled cucmbers being used to cool-off the body. No known references for that, I was mistaken, it was for the Vitamin C against scurvy anyhow, not for staying cool. That's what I use them for when I come in from the heat though. A cold dill pickle instantly makes me feel better. My bad on the mis-information,I was wrong. reading too many things from too many periods is not a good thing sometimes.

It is out of period, sorry. The pickle thing came after the discovery of vinegar and citrus helping to fight scurvy in the late 18th century, not during GAoP.

Look for pickles as I have seen some references to them used on ships. I don't have any references handy though. We use them for the same reason here in steamy Missouri. (i.e. "cool as a cucumber").

I only have one metal cased one with a single groove wooden pulley for that size rope. The eye for mounting is also metal and the case has a star stamped in it. It's been kept inside and is in good condition, I only used it once to hang a deer with. It is originally made for hay loft and similar farm application. If it will help I'll send it but if it isn't what you're looking for no problem. I see some all wood ones in the flea markets but i wouldn't hang a flower pot n those.

I was so turned-off by POTC II that I haven't bothered to see it again. I've still never sat through #3 all the way through. POTC III bites the big one as far as I'm concerned. I'll wait to rent/borrow #4. I've just about given up on movies altogether. The only recent ones worth watching IMO have been Perfume and The Girl With The Pearl Earring. Seems everyone relies on FX and there are no more real talented actors that can make a good movie stand alone anymore.

Tallow candles were less expensive and far more common than expensive wax ones, and the cost of operating a ship, (including providing lighting), was one reason why there were few people that could afford to invest in shipping. Oil for lamps is also very expensive and far more dangerous than candles, as candles don't spill and create a huge flammable area.

Not for throwing, and people don't die from knife wounds in the torso in just a few seconds as in the movies. Using a knife for combat requires you to be up-close and personal about it and deadly serious. Wit and stealth are the two key components to successful knife fighting. Agility is third and equally important to success.With a firearm you have one shot (in the GAoP) usually, rarely a double barrel will be a factor, but a knife does not need to be reloaded, and once you get inside the 'personal space" of yopur opponent, he's in serious trouble. Knife fighting is something I can say I am completely familiar with. throwing knives is just as I said before, mostly pure fantasy and an entertainment venue. If you miss, you're shite outta luck, and if your opponent is not effectively disabled, you are also shite outta luck and may get your blade served back to you "in spades."
