  1. Isn't there a pattern with the 1720s coat as well for breeches? Sorry not home at the moment to check myself, but then neither are you... Any way, the problem with fit is that, even though we do have some original garments to make patterns off of, other than artwork or a passing comment from the time frame and then we can only guess as to how accurate that is, we really have no way to properly judge the fit... as we have no idea of the how the original garment fit the original wearer...
  2. Like version three better... um what is that patch of ground surrounded by bushes behind the magazine? Any idea using google earth? can folks get in there to smoke?
  3. Make sure you bring it with you... as I would like to see this on you over stays and not just on the dress dummy... also please bring the photos of that original jacket with the quilted petticote... Thanks...... should look lovely when finished...
  4. I said skin tight, never said that you said it... and I agree to the validity of using Waugh's patterns since nothing else has come up as of yet. and 6-7 years... Mickey ye are a new tailor... at least by my standards, but I don't find that any cause to take offense...as none was given..
  5. A very happy birthday to ye Captain...and many, many more to come.
  6. Casn't say that I have ever come across anything indicating that length of breeches was relevant to class distinction... although common sense could easily say that upper class could afford to have clothing custom cut/tailored for a better fit and the lower classes may have been dealing more with hand me downs and second hand shops to purchase their clothing... Actually I would love to see your evidence for skin tight breeches for our time frame as most of what I have seen seems to show that doesn't come in until later along with the very full, baggy seats in order to accommodate the skin tight legs... and actually Mission, in order to keep your breeches from riding up over your knees when you sit, you don't need to have them down along your calf, the addition of one simple inch can make all the difference...tis all a matter of measurement and fit... which is hard for a new tailor to do, especially if the body isn't around to measure...
  7. I think I would agree with Mickey... but you would be safe making the coat wool, lined with silk and silk velvet for the waistcoat and breeches...
  8. There is at least one kilt pin that was found in the Whydah and included in the exhibit, but that certainly doesn't mean pirates were wearing kilts on board the ship. So far your safest bet would be to stick to wearing kilts strictly for balls/dances...
  9. I will see if I can get Camp Mom to send some one over and take a few measurements, but in the mean time we will work off of the google earth stuff....as long as we can see that we can fit things and from the look of your first two attempts we should have plenty of room... we can always fine tune once Mr. O'Keeffe gets in and walks it off...
  10. Jack, m'boy, not ignoring this... but have no way at work to draw pictures ... a bit regimental(regimental would suit Mickey fine if he is going red coat) and we do need to set up, unfortunately, a more stage like, ugh, setting for the living history... as to the powder magazine, I am not too certain about having it by the street... we would need to police smokers walking past it... hmmm will give some suggestions when I get home as well as get Mr. March's wall tent size... I do like having the living tents in the space indicated in the second pictures, but I think we may be moving the Hide a bit and the flies in order to use as much of the space and set up the demos in order to give room for the crowds to move about them comfortably. Silkie as to worrying about folks moving behind the tents, the bushes should help and when we are busy we can always stake the back doors shut... As to that wedge, we want it close but not too close and some place we can easily keep an eye on it...
  11. Damnation woman I will pick you up next year! Just be by the roadside ready to go!
  12. M'dear Shay, sorry for neglecting this post, but I will be happy to assist you as much as possible but I currently have my hands full with two major back to back events coming up at the end of the month. As far as folks helping you out, there are some in Key West that I am assisting with their kits as well, so perhaps with introductions you can all get together and plan on some work weekends. Just give me a bit....
  13. M'dear, ye may well have two galley boxes come Blackbeard's... I may even let ye hold onto the key...
  14. Did I mention I have a wonderful spy network as well?
  15. Agreed Callenish, and I think Silkie may have offered to stow drinking vessels at the Hide for Blackbeard's... we will have water for folks as well... water is free...after all I am a bastard and a cheap one at that, I still have a daughter to marry off so ye know where all my coin ends up...
  16. Damn... just because I was in Algiers for three years, doesn't mean I LIKE it when all you bilge rats come and plant one on me all the time! Honestly get a pack mule to carry things... I mean indentured servant... I casn't say enough about em...wish everyone could have one to call their own..
  17. When I speak, everyone listens, then they talk about me behind my back! This just gives em more fodder...
  18. Just imagine if Cousin Robbie was helping...
  19. Ah I think tis all right placing it here as it pertains only to Blackbeard's event... and since we're stealing the show... ahem... oops...
  20. Hell I just drink out of everyone else's pc mug...that way I don't have to carry a thing...
  21. Tis a baby thing Hugh, surely ye can relate?
  22. Snigger... you would be surprised, especially if you forget to take it off yer belt at certain events...
  23. I believe some where on the pub there is a thread about paint colors for ships... search colors, paint and see what you come up with...sorry don't have time to do it myself.
  24. Just be careful with what yer keeping it full .... some events will nail you for alcohol during public hours OR outside of camp, last year Blackbeard's was one of them. My vote is hunting bag, wallet/ or snapsack... (I still question haversacks as to correct for our period) or hell, ye can do what I used to do in England, stumble around from pub to pub with the same glass as I was too polluted to know I had taken it from the first pub...
