  1. And now, a guilty pleasure: "Why am I worried about this? You did it! All I gotta do is go tell 'em what happened. But they'll say, 'Who left him alone with the picture?' And I'll say, 'Me'. And they'll say, 'You're fired' and I'll say, 'Fine'. They'll say, 'No, no, no, firing's not good enough. Let's prosecute you for negligence'. I go to jail, my wife leaves me, my daughter becomes a prostitute, I wind up on death row sharing a cell with Butch McDick!" Blackbead
  2. My wife and I fairly recently watched this one - "Pan's Labyrinth," if I'm not mistaken.
  3. "The Dirty Half-Dozen Plus One"? "Seven the Hard Way"? "Six Heroes and a Ewe"? I'm a-thinkin . . . Black and white and involving WWII . . . and six heroes plus one and a kid and his ma. I'm still a-thinkin . . . Give me a second. Blackbead
  4. And didn't Captain Sophia get it right - "The Name of the Rose"? If not, then let's keep trying; otherwise, Captain Eisley, you be on the gun deck.
  5. Now THERE is an actor I have always enjoyed watching act, ever since "Mountains of the Moon." I missed the RH version that he did; I'll have to put that one on the BB list.
  6. It was an okay movie so long as you thought of it as a film about someone other than Robin of Locksley or the hero who became known as "Robin Hood." I don't mind a little bending and twisting of a legend but when you pretty much make complete left turns in the tale so that it becomes a new story, then it's not the old tale, it's a new one.
  7. I think Jill is correct but are we going to make her come up with the complete title?? What's the rule on that? I'll take another guess, however, and say, "Gorky Park"?
  8. "Captain Blood" was a good guess; there are some GREAT lines out of that film! But "M&C" was the correct answer so it be your turn again, Jill! Blackbead
  9. Let's try an easy one, shall we? "So it's every hand to his rope or gun, quick's the word and sharp's the action. After all... surprise is on our side." Blackbead
  10. I agree that there is a WORLD of pirates out there to portray. Last year, at Middlefaire down in Texas, the owner asked me to come as something OTHER than a New World, Caribbean pirate, so, I donned a turban, put on the long pants with short boots, put a sash under my belt and carried a scimitar and my booth became "Blackbead's Bazaar," the market of a Barbary corsair. In September, I'm going to a festival that will have Civil War reenactors and 1840's characters running around. Yours truly will be garbed out as a river pirate, a la "Mike Fink." And one year at the Texas Renaissance Faire's "Roman Bachannal," I went as a Cilician pirate and my wife dressed as the Roman lady that I had taken prisoner and was holding for ransom. There's just TOO much fun to be had out there . . . Blackbead
  11. Could that be "Shawshank Redemption"?? Blackbead
  12. Congratulations, Jill! It IS from "C the B"! I also agree about the atrociousness of "Meet Joe Black." Your turn at the helm, Oh, Red-handed One!
  13. Alright, this thread seems to have gone silent again . . . shall we start a new game?? "All my life I've been alone. Many times I've faced death with no one to know. I would look into the huts and the tents of others in the coldest dark and I would see figures holding each other in the night. But I always passed by." Ladies, this is one for you . . . Blackbead
  14. When I lost my father, I was told a story about the Vikings and their acceptance of Christianity. They merged their older beliefs with the new. The soul, to them, was like a great, white sea gull, flying free through the night sky. Quite by accident, it flies into the window of a mead hall where a feast is taking place. It flies hither and yon, resting on a ceiling beam when it can, taking flight when the Vikings roar with laughter or hurl an empty flagon of mead at it. This is life. Then, again quite by accident, the bird finds another window and flies back out into the night sky - free. This is death. I never think of my father as gone; I think of him as free. That thought is what finally brought me peace. Like the tall ship that slips over the horizon, he's not gone, he's just someplace else. My condolences and prayers go out for ye, Blackbead
  15. Come on out to Tablerock Fantasy Faire on September 15-16, 2007! The Faire is in Salado, TX (a mere 50 miles north of Austin on I-35). Enjoy a weekend of Renaissance and fantasy in the Texas Hill Country! Check out http://www.tablerock.org/faire.html for more information and check out Salado for some great B&Bs, historical old town, the famous Stagecoach Inn (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid slept there) and look for the Little Mermaid in Salado Creek! 18. I've been attending TRF every year since 1982, with a few years off while I was out of the Country but I plan on being there this year. I'm glad that they made the decision to have their pirate weekend on the 20-21st since I will be vending at Middlefaire this year for both weekends. If ye have a free weekend the first two weekends in October, come see me pirate fort in the Middle! Blackbead
  19. "Now and then we had the hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates." Mark Twain Life on the Mississippi
  20. RhumbaRue! I be guessin' ye'll be sellin' your own wares come this con! But I expects to see you early and often and at least a few times with a cold one in your hand! Take all you can . . . and ALL SALES FINAL!! Blackbead
  21. Bilge and Carmina - 'Nuff said and I will raise this for discussion no more. I understand your concerns and will do them honor. I'm also incredibly excited about the coming year's convention and will be there again with bells, whistles, flintlocks, beautiful jewelry and treasures from around the world. As for all the controversy, that's for those who stride the quaterdeck. I'm a fo'c'sle rat and I plan on making this coming event, whoever be runnin' it, one to talk about over flagons of rum for years to come! See ya in New Orleans! Blackbead
  22. Ahoy there! I have an idea for the folks putting this year's con together - this is supposed to be a celebration of pirates in history and in modern pop culture, right? Well, what about inviting some of the folks who worked on the 2005 XXX film "Pirates"? I am in NO way suggesting any type of appearance that would include naughtiness (DARN it! Say, has anyone else ever noticed the similarity between "naughtiness" and "nautical"?) but instead something along the lines of having them talk about how they put the movie together or having some of the talent on hand to sign autographs. My first concern would be whether the talent from the other realms of entertainment would view this but I wanted to voice the idea. Does anyone else think this idea is worthy of discussion? Blackbead
  23. Oops! Oh, I'm sorry . . . I thought this thread had something to do with all of those lovely ladies that I've left in me wake! Just checkin' to see if I owed some child support . . . Blackbead
  24. And in three hundred years, I hope that people will be listening to Williams just like we listen to Bach and to Horner just like we listen to Mozart and to Goldsmith just like we listen to . . . you get the idea. BB
  25. It was hot, hot , hot! In more ways than one! For a second year faire, this event was very well attended and VERY well put on. The entry fee was reasonable, the food was exceptionally reasonably priced, and there was enough going on all the time for the folk visiting to have a great time. This faire has a lot of potential and will become a yearly port o' call for the Adventure! See ya next year!!
