I'm in on this as well...and I think I may have that Friday off (huzzah!). It's probably an hour and a half drive for me from Orlando (or so I've been told).

I received Kate's in the mail today from Jill (thanks!). :)

A fellow newbie here (to PiP)...I too had a hard time keeping up with the names, but trust me when I say I remember the faces and the compassion, good humor and warmth you showed to me and a great many others in the encampment during the stay.

Thank you so much Callenish and Salty for a roof over me head. You two are the nicest most down to earth individuals, and your little Hamish is too cute for words! He has such beautiful blue eyes, and the healthiest pair of lungs I have ever heard.

A big thank you to everyone else, particularly the Mercury crewe for taking me in and making me feel welcome. I enjoyed talking with all of you (Mercury and other crewes), and getting the chance to observe and take part in the many personas, reenactments and shennanigans that went on over the long weekend. A special shout out to Red Jessi for being a great "tent roomie" and providing a yummy sip of butterscotched libations one night, as well as several interesting conversations on shoes, psychology and other topics. And to Silkie...your ordinary made the event extraordinary - an ideal place to hang out and chat with neighbors, swap stories on whatever, and in the evening, eat yummy meals and swap bottles of rum and other libations during conversation or fyne music and singin'. Bravo lass! *claps ensue*

A special thanks to Mission (awesome salmagundi...and event recap!), Willie Wobble (for his "wobble juice", bottle wrapping skills and company, especially on parade night), and Mary Diamond and Sterling (for helping me to spruce up my new shoes with ribbon). Last but not least, the comedic, historical stylings of Douglas Pummell and Wicked William had me in stitches. I will never forget either of you, EVER (I'm sure you'll never let me...heehee), and I am looking forward to St Augustine and future gatherings.

Silkie - I loved the ordinary, and can't wait to see it resurrected next year. If you need any help, I can also serve as a buxom wench alongside Diosa (though I may need a tighter bodice).

Diosa - speaking of coconut, I've had a delicious Thai chicken coconut soup (w/ side of white rice) at a local restaurant that I managed to recreate a few months back. That might make for a yummy side dish one night at the ordinary (or tavern).

Lily! (hiya!) It was you who had your haircut for charity (along with the gents), right? The resulting cut looked quite nice.

See, I told yah you could write well! I missed not saying goodbye to yah Mission. It was great seeing you again, and I hope you'll be back down here for PiP next year, if not sooner. And indeed, the salmagundi was a spectacular success; kudos to everyone who was involved. The vinigarette dressing Constance whipped up to drizzle over the layered concoction was very yummy. I have a few pics of us working on the meal and will post them over the next couple of days (if not here, via my flickr or new snapfish account).

To add, you were correct on the gal's (Delena's) name that you mentioned early on in your posts. She was a delight to meet and fun to talk to, and I hope she's back next year too. As for the "naked juice", I heard that had an effect on the gents as well (referring to another event hosted by Searles Buccs, and chucking of clothes). That story was brought to you by Wicked William and his nefarious manservant, Douglas Pummell (aka Manny Names).

Yikes on that minor fender bender Micheal! I'm glad you all are alright. Now that leaves me curious about Patrick as well.

I see this year's PiP was a first for many of us. Honestly it felt like I'd been there before after several days of hanging out with the crewes. You all made me feel very welcome, and I appreciated the shelter I was given, stories regaled to me, advice on kit and gear, and everything else that I experienced. And I loved the various roles so many of you took on; very entertaining and educational. I really wish it didn't have to end.

I'm glad I found a local crew to take up reenactment with...I can't wait for their upcoming events!

That is a long drive Stynky! I remember when my family used to do road trips from CO to CA (and I thought that was long). Safe journey to yah.

I'll be taking off from Portlando the morning of Thursday the 4th. Only making a pit stop or two during the drive, and should be down there before dinner time.

Ha! I knew I was in good company!!! Right now a good 95% of my goofing off time is being devoted to Traveller!!! During lunch I plan on rolling up some High Guard characters.

Thanks for the additional pointers ladies and gents (or was it just gents?). I'll add this to my printed version of directions. I'm sure it'll be tough to get lost down there. I mean, if I run out of land to cover then I know I've gone too far!

I've a question about hot drinks...might there be any hot water around for tea? If there aren't enough kettles making a trip down to be included merely for hot "grog", I'll bring one. As much as I love the smell of coffee in the morning, my stomach prefers something a tad lighter.

While you may not want to make the walk in the mornings, I will have hot water inside the fort on the parade grounds as I am doing herbal teas....

i'll bring my official "pyrate solar cook book."..lots of wonderful recipes....

for hot tea:.....mix tea with water...pour in cup...set in hot sun...and wait

for lamb:....tie securely to ground....and wait

for roast pork:...tie securley to ground....and wait

Silkie - Mine is probably a cup or two smaller, and isn't period accurate (stainless steel).

I like yours though...I've seen quite a few on ebay that around similarly shaped.

Harry - Mapquest is a bit cranky even with a "close enough" address. I went with Google and managed to get a somewhat accurate map down to the area. I'll still rely on my Garmin though...goofy gal cracks me up when she says "recalculating" in a snooty tone.

...and we could be the taste testers! I could say that's both a blessing and a curse,

but I hear alot of good things about this crewe's cooking.

Tying back to tentage, if anyone's still looking for that comfy cot to put space between themselves

and the shells, Walmart has one in a handy blue carrying case for $33.80. I plan on using mine

along with a sleeping bag and a few blankets (one being a lended period accurate one to hide

the modern stuff - thanks Callenish!).

Neat pics Patrick! It's interesting to see the transitions of style throughout one's teen years. Thankfully, you didn't do the "wave bangs" too.

This is a bit of a pickle (and I haven't properly worn these shoes yet)! Unfortunately the shoes only have one latch that crosses over the instep, and that is connected to the other side of the shoe by a strip of elastic. I'm now unsure how a new buckle (any I've seen so far) could be properly fitted to the shoe. I'd have to find one with a middle strip that snaps in and out.

*sighs* Or I try my soldering tool to see if I can fix this original buckle. The middle part (tucked behind the back of the latch) broke off, and the buckle itself is cracked at the bottom, all the way through.

Hey folks -

Unfortunately a buckle was cracked on my one and only pair of shoes I plan to wear to PiP. Do any of you have suggestions as to a good sturdy pair I should get (type of metal or sheen matters not).

Well...my Halloween costume kept me from the Internet for around a month. I'd guess I put in over a hundred hours of work on it, what with the sewing and embroidery of the blouse (persnickety sash, and monkey vest). The rest I bought through various merchants. I plan on a second version of the blouse starting early next year for the SD Comic Con.

China and the Olympics might have had a little to do with the rise in oil (and thusly, gas) prices, but I'd venture a guess and say it was oil speculators that drove it up, then backed away post election (hmm, convenient) and let barrell prices go down, imho.

Prices here in Orlando seem to range from $1.90 to $2.10 as of late. Nice to spend $20-25 per week on gas again (extra trips not included).

Folks - If you all need any assistance with buying ingredients for food prep (will have car), or the meal prep itself let me know. I'm fairly handy in the kitchen and am good at taking direction with recipes that are new to me (salmagundi sounds interesting). That and well...I'll be brimming over with herbs and spices.
