Hey Michael - Any chance you might be brining some of this down to Searle's in March? It'd be an interesting thing to try. I've been reading this thread off and on since it started, and am wondering what's the oddest fruit someone's used to make the stuff? I'm wondering if pomegranite juice would make a nice mead.

I'm reading Common Sense, by Thomas Paine (a short, but interesting read), and White Night, one of the Dresden Files novels from Jim "Hells Bells" Butcher.

No such luck at the JoAnn's down the street from Disney World. But I did find a 20 yard bolt of muslin for $14.99. Picked up one myself and may start working with it next week (now, to find a few patterns).

Kate's book will be heading out on Monday.

William, I don't know but I suppose I could talk to the folks at UPS. They have always been very freindly and are used to me shipping oddities such as swords and guns and stuff. I am surrounded by the stuff and we cut it off the roads and horse ranch constantly. Something to look into anyway.

Shipping some of those down for PiP sounds like a very good idea. That'd help out alot of folks that might not find decent pole makin' materials.

Question folks on tent poles...I've recently bought a wedge tent that I'll use for a few reenactments prior to 09's PiP, and a friend told me what sort of wood NOT to get poles made from, and I'm embarrassed to say I've forgotten what he said. What types of wood would work best, and not warp in the humidity and such?

Indeed I did. I wish I would have spent more time in the pub this year, it was rather comfortable temperature wise but i was at the Hide most of the time. Well ...next year.

You sang beautifully milady. Indeed, hopefully you can get over to the pub/tavern more next year. I'm hoping to learn a few tunes myself to join in. I used to sing with friends alot in years past. Gotta get over the nerves once again and simply enjoy it.

Congrats on yer team winnin' Lady B! My dad's alma mater team (near my home port), USC won today as well. Twas a fun game to watch. On the other hand, the Broncos over the weekend (seeking AFC chances)...not so fun to watch. *turns green*

Ah well, here's hoping the teams who didn't make it do better in their next season.

Spoke with Cpt William, and am passing on some info with his blessing:

- If arriving Friday, that evening is a potluck of sorts, where folks are welcome to bring

food items (if they can) for everyone to partake in. (Michael - That may be the ideal evening to make

the yummy rice and beans concoction you've noted up there ^^).

- Saturday's meals (if you are dressed for the reenactment) will be prepared courtesy of Searle's

Buccanneers. That means breakfast, lunch and dinner.

- Black powder is also available to those who would need it.

He reiterated that folks should not don tricorns or bring their Jolly Roger flags, as neither are period accurate.

I also asked about cocked hats, and he noted those would be worn by officers.

^ - My place is typically decorated with Christmas flair around the week of Thanksgiving. Sometimes before, sometimes after. Presents not included (they're in CO with immediate family).

< - My brain is already on autopilot and ready for the holidays (Two weeks off! With a little work in the mornings when I'm in town) I can't be on holiday yet though...gotta get some important work done by Friday.

v - If you do decorate, do you take it all down a few days after Christmas, or do you keep it up for a few weeks, month, all friggin year, etc. (If you don't decorate, my question would be what do you do in lieu of decorating?)

I wouldn't quite say edgy Mission...perhaps a look of "glazed eyes". That's why I tend to shorten presentations I give (either that or make 'em funny).

In terms of breeches, I'd say some of the Venetian variety may work well for this event (check Sykes Sutlery...he has a good design for sale).

Captain - Thanks for posting this. A great many of us are looking forward to this event.

I don't mind looking at snow, but getting buried in it ain't any fun let alone driving in it (that was an adventure in my lowriding PT Cruiser). That's why I moved far, far away from the stuff. Now I only have to look at it (from up close) a few days each year.

Next week I'm sure it'll snow while I'm there, and it's been freezing cold in CO (at or below zero) and is supposed to stay that way. :angry:

I'll suck it up though...someone playully suggested snow angels and writing in the snow. I'll surely give the first one a try for sake of nostalgia, but the other one I'll leave up to the guys in my family.

I'd be happy to pitch in and help as well with whatever help is needed. Whatever might be able to get campers in a few days earlier.

I wore gel inserts in my boots and my more period correct shoes, and did alright. That is, until I got a mosquito bite near the area of my achilles tendon (ouch!). Heeded advice though, and it paid off with relatively comfortable walks over that (dang blasted) coral that was everywhere in camp.
