  1. Rosalinda..Is the Piract book from Alex Kongstrum from the Osprey series? If it is those are great books...quick consise and full of detail. If I may...Read Kongstrums Elizabethan Sea Dogs. It is about Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh. These guys were really the first Pirates, even though they were under orders from the Queen (elizabeth of course). These guy looted the spanish main and drove the spanish from Port Royal, and Panama...Great stuff. I am always on the look out for those books from Osprey. I also have Agincourt ans the Battle of Crecy. Great for strategy lovers....
  2. As a toy collector I have been waiting for POTC action figures. I just hope they don't make them too cartoony. Get MacFarlane Productions(Spawn) or Toy Biz (LotR and Marvel) to do them...with lots of articulation and accessories....Eye swords, pistols...cutlass, and a compass that only pointts in one direction....Arr I should be in Marketeering. Ok so I coined a new word. I am surprised at the lack of Merchandising for POTC...Geez even that horrible Sinbad cartoon did a MacDonald promotion...Or was that Ice cream...Baskin/ Robbins? Any way the mouse usually spreads themselves all over the media and the market. Maybe good ole Jerry Bruckheimer has gotten a bridle and harness on the Disney marketing juggernaut....good for him if he has...
  3. For those hearty soles with foot problems, but with the hearts of a plunderer...might I suggest boot- jacks. Ren-store.com carries them. A boot-jack would be a leather "sleeve" that would fit over your regular shoes, but gives them height....just a thought. Why you could event put them over the mock-lace up ren boots to cover the laces....
  4. www.renboots.com is where I got me knee boots. They are great and only $115 with shipping and thay arrived with in a week. I got the Prince John's. I liked them a) for the price and because they can be used for a variety of eras and costumes,,,from medieval to pirates to the matrix. Great service and great prices. I will be checking out e-bay tho for a pair of Thigh High? Muscketeer type boots.
  5. First of all let me clear up a boneheaded statement of which I should be tied to the mast and flogged for...The LOTR Soundtracks were done by Howard Shore ok so now that it out of the way... Ok men are out of the Way...except for the villians...Christopher Walken, Harvey Keitael or even Geoffrey Rush Now the Women: Kate Winslet, Katherine Zeta Jones-Douglas, Ashely Judd, Kate Beckinsale, Peta Wilson. Strong Women who I would love to Wet, sweating covered in soot and blood and climbing thru the rigging. Aaahh bring back memories of my girl Geena Davis...Who could still pull it off .
  6. This Summer I read: Under A Black Flag, David Cordingly The Three Muscketeers, Alexander Dumas Master & Commander, By Patrick O'Brien which I recommend to anyone interested in Nautical Adventure stories. Sharpes Tiger, Sharpes Trafalgar, Sharpes Prey, and am now reading Sharpes Rifles all by Bernard Cromwell... Great series about the Peninsular Wars/Napoleonic era. Fasinating stuff, I can't put them down and they are a quick read, but intelligently written...You are learning without even knowing it. I think I might take a break from the series and read Scaramouche by Rafael Sabatini, saw the movie recently and want to read the novel. Also with LoTR:Return of the King coming Dec. 17....It will be time for me to re-read The Trilogy. I have read it every year since the first movie....Call me a freak...I spend alot of Friday nights at home har har...
  7. Stewart Townsend would be wonderful in a Pirate Movie...Did anyone see in in League of Extrordinary Gentleman? At least he can handle a sword. Still the Music debate rages on...so I assume none of you have everherd of Yngwie Malmsteen? Well he is famed for translating Paginini pieces to Elecrtric Guitar. His earlier stuf is quite good. The PotC is just phenomenal...I do not know where they found Klaus Badelt but he is Brilliant. My second choice for Score woud be James Horner...LotR, Mask of Zorro. He has a wonderful way of melding period instruments with a modern symphony. Au Revoir
  8. LotR Trilogies The Crow (Brandon Lee) Hard Boiled The Seven Samurai (To me it is Better then the Magnificent Seven) Pirates of the Carribean The Fifth Element The Count of Monte Christo (2001) Three Musketeers (Richard Lester 1977) Love and Death (Woody Allen ) History of the World (Mel Brooks) Monty Pythons Life of Brian Face Off Thats the short list it is always changing and it is no particular order. I love movies that I have all of these subcategories..it gets complicated
  9. I pulled mine from the Pan Historia Website...I'll be replacing it after this years Ren Faire when I'll have pictures of me self dressed to the nines.
  10. No don't remove the interview questions...If people were true fans they would have watched him on Letteman to see clips from the movie. That was were he revealed who he based the character on. Keith Richards...is that perfect of what..gotta love Jonny Depp.
  11. Only got two wrong...Babarossa's ring and how many years had elapsed since Will was found....pretty good...the only thing I should hang me head about is only seeing the movie twice. Ahwell. I will get out to see it again and Will be first inline to get the DVD....
  12. If yer lookin' for Swords that were shown in POTC. I recommend some lads in Canada known as layalistsarms.com They did some of the prop work for POTC. Not anly can you see some great Cutlasses there but also small swords (Much like the one Wiill presents to the Gov. in the begining of POTC) as well as flintlock pistols and Musketts.
  13. On the Music issue it would definatly be instumental. But I am not entirelly opposed to it being heavy. Maybe we could dig up Yngwie Malmsteen or Tony MacAlpine to compose the score. The Mix of lightning fast arpeggios played on a statocaster with a big orchestra behind them while watching a sword fight...it works for me. So that is the Music. I am looking forward to Master and Commander and Ridley's Scotts Tripoli next year. As for my script. Well it would be the Romantic story of a French noble man, banished from home and travels to the Carribean. He meets up with some Pirates and joins their Crew. And then it would just be one Big Epic Battle Scene. Especially when his 1/2 brother Captain in the Royal Navey comes to bring him home. As for Cast. Jim Caviezal, Oded Ferh, Guy Pierce, Guys that can act but would not require big paychecks....
  14. I am loving the soundtrack as well...I must have played fifty to 60 times already. I have been in a musical slump for sooo long and this is the pick me up I have looking for. I haven't listeded to a score this good since the Two Towers. The thing I don't get is the limited availibility. I had to order mine and evertime I go into a store it is sold out. I really hope the soundtrack is doing that well. Hey maybe we will see an oscar nor for Klaus Badelt...lets hope so.
  15. I ordered The POTC sound track over a week ago from B&N...Nobody seems to have it...Bloody Disney...Who puts out a soundtrack a month after a movie opens?
  16. Aye, a bunch of lubbers trying to swing a bat at a little ball. And it is played in a park.... and they call themselves pirates...Aye Pirates indeed...bleedin the poor locals in taxes to build there shiney new Park...And they can't even claim a prize (pennant). Aye somethig stinks in this burgh and tis not the rivers.... Hmm that seemed a little bitter didn't it? Ah well... DuCouer
  17. Aye Rogue indeed...Me cheeks are red enough with wind and sun...Illiterate I am not...believe me. I just can't can't type... DuCouer
  18. I just saw POTC again last night...What a movie!!! just as much fun the second time around. OK...look I know I started the whole costume accuracy debate, but Y'know? Who gives a flying friggate what they wore? It worked. We finally have a pirate film that the critics like (I still like CutThroat Island...So to blazes with the critics), which means that maybe the genre will be saved and we will see more pirate films. Even a bad Pirate film is still a Pirate film...Am I right you lawn grabbers? Fun is what we see movies for and this film had plenty. As for those morons at slate, they have no idea what they are talking about. POTC was just right, and League of Extrodinary Gentleman also was two hours of fun. DuCouer
  19. Thanks fot getting back to me on this....Maybe I will join the SCA...Just barge in on a meeting or gathering some time. Make self known to them as the Rouge that I am. DuCouer
  20. Welcome Aboard Iron Bess...Here is to hopin' that the iron speaks of of your will and not to a high blood count...I have no idea what that means... Welcome aboard. As a relative new comer I can tell you that this is a great site...lots of fun...informative w/out bein' stuffy and even a little heated at times. DuCouer
  21. Bess, Many thanks for catching Mr. Anderson's Name. He has got to the best. I think the monkey did end up in Davey Jones's Locker, aftyer he bounced off of the canon...HAR HAR.... I can't wait for the sequel...Hell I can't wait to see it again this weekend...and then DVD...and then.... DuCouer
  22. Just got back From POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl. Add this one to your list lads and lasses. 1. Jack VS Will in the Armoury 2. Jack Versus Barbarosa in the cave 3. Will and Elizabeth versus three nasties...in the cave This movie has more swash and buckle then a shoe factory (? ) Let me know what you think Hearties... DuCouer
  23. Just got back from seeing Pirates of the Carribean...A fine film and alot of fun. A little stereotypical of most pirate films ( the rouge with the heart of gold...or is that for gold), and not historically accurate (If the movie was to take place in the late 1600's would they be dressed in surcoats and wearing wigs? I can't say. I'm not a historical fashion expert...just a thought.) I loved this movie...It has been along time since the ol swash and buckle was on the big screen and this was just pure fun. Damn those historic junkies...maybe they can wait for the Russel Crowe film, me I will chew on this one for quite awhile. I can't wait to see it again. I have to say more about this film...Johnney Depp is brilliant as the flawed pirate and as with most historical pirates he is sometimes more and less then he seems. Jeffrey Rush snarls and aarghs like he was born to play this role, and Orlando Bloom is noble and pure and always does the right thing...in the begining. Even he faces a dark personal choice. I do not know where they found this Kiera Knightly...Beautiful and fierce and quite bright...hardley your Damsel in Distress. Really strong...I can not wait to see her King Arthur next year. The sword work was really good ( I'm heading to greatest fencing scenes next) altho I am angry that I missed who the choreographer was. DuCouer
  24. Just thought I would chime in on this topic... I just love Hot Topic...There is one at the Monroeville mall in Pittsburgh, Pa. Was in there for the first time a few months back...Really fun store. For more period style stuff check out Armsofvalour.com The Swordsman shirt covers a wide range of periods...It has a collor and laces at the neck...It also ties as the sleeves. I have a black one and the White one is on order. The best place for boots is a site called Renboots.com. They have some great boots for decent prices. I wanted a pair of boots that were high, and yet I could fold down...The prince John boots fit the bill perfectly. They are a knee boot that will fold over, Not as far as a pirate boot, but they are a great pair for getting started. Only 115 with shipping...and they arrived within 5 days of ordering. DuCouer
  25. Ok so Back to the subject of where to buy swords. I have been try ing to find some sights that deal with Napoleanic and Relutionary War renactment. Only one decent hit so far and that would be militaryheritage.com. Some decent looking swords in the 200 price range. I think I am going to go with loyalist arms. Any other places I should check out??? DuCouer
