  1. ...But I received an envelope with some little negative photos (or photo film cuts, how to call it?) and no explanation. I don't know what they are, how to look at them in order to see them properly or... anything. They aren't diapositive dimensions either, I think 2 or 3 put together would make the dimension of a diapositive. So... please, Secret Santa, I need directions of use!

Ahoy Elena! Happy to hear packet received. Yes, diapositive, (positive slide film).

They are pieces from motion picture footage. I shall pm you regarding the framing, storage and uses.

  2. They're made for "Mossino" in some far away Chinese sweat shop.

That's Mossimo with a second "m." Sorry, my bad.

Also, I did not see these at Target last year.

I don't know if they've been discontinued or not. We'll check again this Fall.

They do show up on U.S. eBay. They have a distinctive zig-zag patterned band on the crown that's easily removed.

And if that's not confusing enough...

there's also a similar line called "Missoni."

(Missoni is actually the one with the zig-zag band. Mossimo are normally plain.)

  4. LOL, it was the 1984 version that said it was rated PG!!! I actually finished it yesterday and it was good but by no means PG!!! guy getting killed with a rock to the head, guy with bloody back getting horribly flogged while hundreds of topless Tahitians slice their heads open with sea shells, all kinds of cazy stuff!! I have been looking for the brando version with out any luck, oh well at least I have the book!

Jake - If you're not already using it, check out the "Parents Guide" for individual film titles at the Internet Movie Database.

(They're currently located on the right side of a movie's main page in the "Quick Links" section.)

Not all films there have a Parents Guide but many do and these provide hints as to what to expect in a feature. The missus and I use 'em regularly.

    ie. The Bounty (1984)...

  5. Thank you for spreading the word and saving what you need to other sources. We're going to archive the pictures as well, so even those who hear about this too late will have a source of recovery.

On behalf of the washed/unwashed swine who enjoy gaining enlightenment from said images, we thank you!

  6. NetFlix also has Hero's Island, starring James Mason. Definitely not for everyone, although I enjoyed it; it kind of takes a lot of Western movie themes (landowners vs. squatters who turn to "hired guns" to sort out their conflicts), and applies them to a pirate story.

Thanks for tip D. Pretty decent I thought for an older picture on a budget. Potential for a remake if executed with some sincerity.

Pirates of Treasure island is hideous! I saw it as a Blockbuster rental in 2006. The giant insects are so bad it's pathetic.

Hehe. Let's not sugar coat it Mister Jib. It's an abomination.

BTW, while Rob Roy is set during the GAoP, and is an excellent movie, it doesn't actually have any pirates that I know of. Just a very, very deromanticized version of the aristocratic highwayman.

and one of the best fight scene I've ever seen on film! Rob vs. Archie!

    Ditto that.

  7. Although, as you already know, if you can't produce definitive proof, you can't say it was in use with any authority.

Mission - Sans Stynky, Foxe, GOF, and perhaps a handful of others, you're the closest thing to authority most of us will ever need or want.

I believe it reasonable to say that the vast majority on this here forum would entrust no one other than yourself, regionally or internationally, with an inquiry or the treatment of a toothache, a case of pox... or any number of afflictions for that matter be they physical, philosophical or spiritual.
