No, not Sandra Bullock... "What do you do if you're about to be exposed as the biggest polluter in modern history?" "I don't know...run for president?"

Huzzah Misson. Somehow I feel better knowing that someone else lost an hour and a half of their life on that stinker. Sometimes Tracey Ullman also makes good movies. I used to know a guy we all called Ray-Ray who was...remniscent of that character as seen in the previews. Ok, my quote shouldn't be that hard. Here's another quote from the same movie (which won't help you at all ): "What took you so long?" "I stopped for coffee." "Did you get a receipt?" "Yeah, I got a receipt!" "Did you get me a cup?" "Yeah, I got you a cup!" "Guys!" A movie with dialogue for baristas everywhere.

A Dirty Shame (An awful movie IMHO. But then John Waters is an awful director, so I guess it fits in some karmic way.) New quote: "I'll bet you a hundred there's a tool kit in there." "Man, I hate to rain on your crazy parade, but I don't think we can fix this."

It's never too early for logical thought. Rogue, isn't it your turn, then?

I second that. UPS managed not only to damage a very expensive chain ring assembly on a bike I shipped (no mean feat in itself), but they also managed to weasel out of paying the true cost of the damage, despite my having fully insured the bike. I bought a hard case and now ship my bikes as luggage on the plane. Package your gear very well if you ship UPS.

Actually, it is fairly well agreed among scholars that the majority of pirates did not have tattoos during the golden era of piracy. (1690-1730). Jan Rogozinski has quite a bit to say about this in his book Pirates! An A-Z Encyclopedia: I suppose you could try to make some hay of the statement "Until the 1960s, it remained a rebellious practice among criminals, madmen and other social outcasts", but it sounds like most pirates did not have tattoos from Rogozinski's research. They were, after all, members of a society where it was not generally accepted by any strata of the population. Keep in mind that social norms were much more rigid and pertinent in that era than they are today. Trying to impose the loose fabric of today's culture and mores on previous eras is a novice historian's mistake that should be avoided. Branding has been similarly over-associated with pirates. It is suggested that pirates were branded as punishment (ala The Scarlet Letter), but this makes little sense given that a more permenent solution to piracy was allowed and encouraged in that era: hanging. However, to quote my friend (and fellow scholar) Foxe from another forum:

I get the impression (not verified, more from reading into what Iron Bess mentioned here and there) that the sequel has something to do with things coming and going to Hades (including Captain Jack). That might explain how Barbarossa reappears. It doesn't sound as if he's the central villain from what I've inferred. (Although I must admit I haven't made a point of researching this. I'd like to be moderately entertained (and thus surprised) rather than just sitting there checking off the facts of the movie against the rumors when I go to see it. Knowing too much can really spoil the whole thing.) I also get the impression that the chest is no longer the central undead conversion plot device. But who knows? (Iron Bess, that's who.)

We're starting in Sydney where we plan to walk over the top of the bridge in the harbor. Among other things, we're going to visit Ayer's rock (because that's required by tourism law) and dive the Great Barrier Reef from a liveaboard ship. I got my SCUBA certification this year just for this reason.

I am leaving for Australia July 1 and the response I typically get when I tell people this is, "I've always wanted to go there!" or "I plan to go to Australia some day." It would seem there're places like Australia that a lot of people would like to go. Here's some that have been on my short list for quite awhile: -Scotland -Serengeti -Madagascar -Brazil -South Pacific Islands Nearly all of these places are the results of my readings - particularly from books by Gregory McDonald. (I found Key West through his writings.) What's on your short list?

I can't think of a thing. Pyracy was never big sport in Detroit. Since the technical definition of pyracy according to the International Maritime Organization is restricted to activity on the high seas or waters outside of state jurisdiction, even if thieves were stealing cargo and ships on the Detroit River, it wouldn't technically be defined as pyracy - it would be defined as theft. I suggest checking out Royal Oak while here. Most modern pirates would probably enjoy Royal Oak: lots of interesting restaurants and bars...and a shop called Noir Leather, which is always worth a look. They create window displays of which any pirate would be proud. You can also drive by the eerie Fort Wayne on Jefferson Avenue. It's in the more industrial part of town and, while I have never seen it open, it is an historical curio.

I haven't the faintest clue on either of those quotes. The second one sounds suspiciously like a chick flick, though. (Rummy3, I'm pretty sure that it's also in the outtakes from Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Diego has the über-secret, super-duper spectacular director's cut with an extra 16 hours of bonus footage that nobody else has ever seen. Except Diego. And the director. Provided that movie had a director.)

You folks have completely lost focus. Fer shame! "I ain't heard no fat lady!" "Forget the fat lady. You're obsessed with fat lady. Just get us out of here!" _________________ "Fer shame, doc. Huntin' wabbits wit an elephant gun. "Ewephant gun?" "Yeah, so why don't ya shoot yourself an elephant?"

One of my favorite movie quotes: "Be ready for me. I'm going after that truck." "How?" "I dunno...I'm making this up as I go."

Captain Jack - Bugs Bunny combined with Pepe LePew and Calico Jack? They couldn't have created a better amalgam of movie silliness for a pirate captain character if they'd asked me to design one. (Many of my favorite movies borrow from the old WB cartoons.)

I don't know the answer, but that's pretty funny.

I was flipping through the channels when I saw Captain Jack in a Terri Clark video on CMT. Very curious. Turns out it's not Depp, but it's a pretty good likeness. For those of you who despise country, you will be challenged, but for the more open-minded, you can check it out on line... Girls Lie Too Link (This is on Yahoo!. You will have to sign into a Yahoo! account to see the video.)

No, Badelt will not be scoring POTC II and III. He's working on a bunch of other scores right now. According to musicfromthemovies.com, Hans Zimmer, who produced the score for the Pirates of the Caribbean will compose the scores for the two sequels. Of course, that's sort of misleading too... The cognosciente on the movie music website on which I post say that Zimmer doesn't really compose the scores. He's so popular in the business that he's sort of like a clearing house for composition: he gets the job and farms it out to other unknown composers. Then he puts his name on it. Even Badelt was chosen by Zimmer to score the first movie - my understanding is that he had a lot of help from other composers. It was considered by many film score afficianados to be a hodge-podge mess of a score. I liked it fine, though. I expect the next one will be similarly scored due to the popularity of the last one.

I always thought that was an interesting line. If it were an action movie, it would have been far different... For some reason, it reminds me of that wonderful exchange in The Fountainhead: "Mr. Roark, we're alone here. Why don't you tell me what you think of me? In any words you wish. No one will hear us." "But I don't think of you." [page 389] How about this one: "Anything I can do?" "Maybe you could go downtown and check the probate." "Yeah, check the pro-bate. Why, my uncle Thumper had a problem with his probate and he had to take these big pills and drink lots of water."
-
I have heard that, but never tried it. "I'll bet someone back east is going, 'Now why don't he write?'"

She's loads cheaper on eBay. (Then again, what isn't?)

I was looking for stuff for my pirate room (in my house) on eBay when I came across this. What would you do with it? I could dangle her in front of the raptor in my backyard...hang a sign around her neck that says "Bait".

Is that a good movie, Diego? I have wanted to see it since it was recommended by none other than Zig Ziglar. I went and looked up Captain P.E.W.'s quote...after seeing the name of the movie...I still don't know what it is. I read a review of it and it sounds pretty dark...and probably depressing. I'll leave that one for others... How about an obscure quote from a very popular movie: "For twenty-three years I've been dying to tell you what I thought of you! And now... well, being a Christian woman, I can't say it!

Pulp Fiction "You can't go! All the plants are gonna' die!" ... "And then, depression set in."

No kiddin'? "I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid... afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell how it's going to begin."
