    He’s a Scallywag

I’ve my hand in your pocket

    We meet in the market

I’m off with your coins in a flash

    While your scanning the faces

    The men all around you

I’m off in the pub with your cash

    I’m nice smiling faces

    And nice friendly places

And offer a tankard of ale

You wait with your feet tied

    To find you’ve been shanghaied

And face to face with a whale

    I’m a Scallywag

    Pinching your purse

    That is my bag

    I’m a Scallywag

I’m perfectly willing to lend you a shilling

And offer a very good rate

But if you delay me because you can’t pay me

You’ll end your days in a crate

    When sharing the fortune

I’ll offer you fifty, and fifty to share with a smile

But soon you’ll be whiling your every free hour marooned on a desolate isle

  3. Ahoy Diego: we be thinking along the same lines...

Northwest. Pirates of Portlandia...(read a day's sail from Portland, Orygun)

Any of ye webb toed scallywags who care for anarchy, not high-archy (of course we take our fair duties, and weapons safety seriously) are welcome to come play along and see if ye have fun, and if we like each other, yar family...

We plan on doin our fair share of local pub raiding, parading and encampments.

Inquiries welcome...infact sail on over to PDX Pirate and see what's up on the general pyratical calender in these parts

  4. Hi Monterrey Jack...

Here is what I have found out so far...

there is public liability coverage available through this compnay... see below.

Cost is $ 350-700 per year minimum, depending on membership numbers and amount of coverage purchased up to 1mill. I will not include the application- you can e-mail or call if interested.....

The difficult issue is that they require 50% of group members to be NRA members. Besides the possible political objections, not half of our members even handle firearms, so we'll see.

Not a word in their application about re-enactors carrying or demoing swords or daggers!

    -----------------

Thank you for your inquiry into Reenactment Club insurance through the NRA Endorsed Insurance Program. Attached please find our application for General Liability insurance.

Please complete this application to the best of your ability. If you can’t complete every line, that is okay! I will call you back if I need any of the missing information. Should any questions or concerns develop, please don’t hesitate to contact me at our toll-free number 877-487-5407. Once I receive your completed application, I will be able to determine your eligibility and put together a proposal with quote for you.

NRA Guidelines require that your club become an NRA Club Affiliate at $35.00 per year, as well as at least 50% of total club members be NRA Members Individually. I am able to take care of the club portion, but members will need to register either by calling 800-672-3888 or on-line at www.nrahq.org

Thank you for your interest in the NRA Endorsed Insurance Program! I look forward to hearing back from you!

    Sincerely,

    Dan Hilboldt

  6. Ahoy Coastie and Patrick: The boys in blue and grey be next on me list.

When I looked at the NRA insurance info form for gun "clubs" it asks for a detailed description of the shooting "site" . Since we have no fixed site and our venues change, I'm not sure we will qualify, but I'll inquire some more.

  7. From their website they seem to insure huntin' and shootin "clubs" not sure that we fit the mold. I do have a crew member who is a lifetime member, and I'll have him inquire more in detail.

Their arms insurance (to cover loss) may be worth lookin into.

    Thanks...

  8. Here in the Northwest, we have few faires. Some require certs for live steel, and up 'till now, the ones that do allow black powder don't ask for any proof of insurance.

There is a new faire being planned and they have stated that they would love to have cannon but to allow black powder we must be covered.

Does anyone on this board buy annual insurance for their black powder

group or purchase certs for one day or weekend events?

Are there any faires/events that require insurance?

I'm trying to find out if there are any carriers familiar with responcible re-enactment groups out there

  9. Yo Ho, Ho Ho Ho!

  10. Aye, we use florist's foam in our cannon and our pistols...Rarely seen... disingrates nicely. No nasty flying flaming bits of wadding.

I always tell onlookers (when we're loading or preparing charges) that it be Sea foam gathered just this mornin' by the powdermonkeys.

Looking forward to trying me new pistol (Light Dragoon from Middlesex Village Traders) out this saturday at opening of Gig Harbor (WA) Fantasy Faire 10:00 am sharp!

    Small arms primed and ready....

One Eyed Billy Primed and ready...

Le Petit Mort primed and ready...

    Huzzah to the Faire! :o:o:o

  11. Me mate just finushed hand sewing his slops from the Kannik's Korner pattern (available from Townsend). A protective garment worn by sailors fishermen farmers and laborers. Pattern includes sizes 32 through 52. All sizes are included in one envelope. $14.00.

The pattern has a fly, and optional pleating , to make true "petticoat breeches" or a flat front.

I'd say the pattern was worth the money...

    breeches.jpg

BTW I found fustian (linen and flax blend) in a natural color at Joanne Fabrics in the upolstery section. Only $6.99 a yard (very wide fabric) and with 40% off coupon it is a steal.

    I'll post pictures later.

  12. In person:

I finally met Trapper up at Tacoma Tall Ships and

Joe Jacks from up that way too this spring.

    :(

Not many Pacific Northwest scoundrels seem to drop in here at the pub, but I been collecting those that do and been busy welcoming 'em to our warm and friendly PDX Pirate family.

If any of ye be lurkin' be sure to stop by at the B.O.O.M. Pirates encampment at Midsummer's Faire this weekend in Hood River, OR

and at the Washington Fantasy Faire, Gig Harbor, WA (3 weekends in August).

  13. That's 6/18 of course...

Something interesting fer those of ye in Portlandia, stayin' home instead of headed to Port Angeles....I'm gonna' have to miss it since I'll be raiding PA... The Log Keeper will set them right next year so there be no piratical eventconflicts!

    162nd Annual Plunderathon

    Portland, Oregon

    Saturday June 18, 2005

    6:00 pm - 1:00 am

    Yarrrrrr!

Friends, Swashbucklers and fellow miscreants with too much time on our hands:

It is time once again to rain terror upon the unsuspecting city of Portland by plundering and pillaging our little black hearts out. Maties, I speak of the 162nd annual Plunderathon©☠™® on June 18th! We Pirates raid the fair city of Portland in search of rum, jewels, coinage and lawyers in need of wedgies at this time every year (if you have not heard of this before, it is either because you are not ?cool? enough, or because the corporate media is conspiring to black out all news on this day every year in an attempt to curry favor with various political administrations)...

The final list of victims for the 162nd annual

Plunderathon©☠T® has been etched on parchment

with the blood of the damned! Because Sharpie markers

are just too expensive these days. . .

Anyway, the Pirates shall gather at the traditional

site where we have been gathering since that day in

1912 that the City of Portland sent a peace offering

of lawyers and pizza in exchange for a cessation of

    hostilities. Yup, that's right!
