  1. I've already sent the $$ - you should see it soon, if it's not already in your pile of mail. Can't wait to get those shoes!
  2. I even have the gift picked out - it will be, as they say, WAY cool.
  3. Don't know about teaching kids, but my stint as a college professor was a BLAST! One's background does get checked with a fine-toothed comb, though. At least it does in California. I also have a U-4, courtesy of my stint as a financial advisor. That also involved extremely extensive background checking as well. When I saw the report of what they had checked... jeez - they went all the way back to my childhood.
  4. Weight lifting. I've pulled a couple of muscles in my upper back and neck and have to give up lifting weights for awhile (darn this aging with its longer heal times - GRRRR!) It's not that I particularly like lifting weights, but I do like the results.
  5. Whups - sorry! Blackjohn, you're up!
  6. Lady B - I'm willing to bet just about everyone here on the Pub has had his or her heart ripped out at one point. Some of us more than once {raises hand.} It's part of the risk you take in finding true intimacy and love. But when you find that one person who says he will be there for you and really means it, it's worth it. And at the time we've all felt as though the bad feelings would never end - but they do. Really.
  7. Building a shelf for my spice cabinet - been meaning to do that for awhile.
  8. Congratulations on your promotion!! Bring the flogger... heh.
  9. Scrambled eggs with cheese and sun-dried tomatoes.
  10. Definitely read The Name of the Rose - I think you'd really like it. I'm with you on Foucault's Pendulum - too much of a chore to really enjoy it.
  11. 5.6 is no big deal up thisaway. It sure lasted a long time, though. Our kitty, who we had rescued from the docks, is used to shaking so this didn't even register with him. And earthquakes are just like any other disaster. Those of us who grew up in earthquake country can't imagine living in a place that was subject to tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, etc. So it's a matter of what you're used to.
  12. Heh - even though we never get Trick-or-Treaters at our place, Jack bought a couple of bags of candy "just in case". However, I did notice that one bag contained one of his favorite candies and the other contained one of my favorites...
  13. We had an earthquake earlier tonight - 5.6 and it lasted quite awhile. A few TO7S folks were at Jack's and my place rehearsing for a gig when it hit. Nothing fell down at our place, even though we are on landfill; got pretty exciting for awhile, though. Wow - first my evil grandmother dies, then a medium-sized earthquake. It's been a pretty eventful day for me...
  14. Heh - just saw that again. Isn't it from the scene where Davy Crockett (Billy Bob Thornton) is the last survivor and is "discussing terms" with Santa Anna?
  15. I'm still trying to figure out how I feel right now. I just found out my grandmother died yesterday. The thing is, she was pure, unadulterated EVIL. So the world is a better place with her out of it. If she was in a movie, her death scene would prompt much cheering and applause - really. I suppose I'm still stunned that it finally happened after all these years; I am not sentimental in the least about family, so that's not a factor. My mum and I do have a standing appointment to dance on her grave, though.
  16. OMG that was TOO funny, Patt! Still laughing...
  17. Who says men get to have all the fun???
  18. The ones I was considering making are truffles dipped in white chocolate with M&M irises and bloody veins coloured in with food markers. The ones in that punch look like the type made with radishes - carve the red off except for enough to look vein-ey and then scoop out the middle and stuff 'em with a green olive. They look really good in a Bloody Mary... Looks great, Patt!
  19. Well Patt, you do tend to put 150% into your projects - no wonder you're worn out! Been contemplating making some bloodshot eyeballs, just because...
  20. Waif-ish?? I am the ANTI-waif! I haven't lost that much in weight - seven pounds - but I lost 1.5 inches in my bust, two inches in my waist and 1.5 inches in my hips. My big and even my medium-big pants are too large for me now.
  21. My ancestry is all over the place. Do I go with my Irish ancestry? Then I'd most likely be a fisherman's wife. Go with my Scottish ancestry and I'd be a member of the nobility (probably well-educated and pining to be an engineer.) Go with my French-Canadian ancestry and I'd be a wealthy landowner (and probably still pining to be an engineer.) Go with the Indonesian ancestry and I would probably be a head-hunter (I'm sure that's what my ancestors were...) Go with the North African ancestry and... dunno. Probably an engineer!
  22. Okay - took another look and got number five.
  23. I got the first four - five will take a bit of thinking.
  24. Some of the ladies here have wee floggers that I made...
