Damn... I know I've seen that movie. I've got to ponder it a bit. And Misson - you have to see Flash Gordon. It's wonderfully absurd.

Getting things squared away after coming back from my sailing adventure. I learned quite a few things: - The basics of helming a 72-foot schooner (I've never helmed a boat that big before, nor have I ever helmed a boat with a wheel - up until then, only with a tiller.) - That I can, if the winds aren't too strong, work a jib, flying jib, stay'sl, forestays'l, fisherman and mains'l by myself when tacking if I really scramble. - Not to get too ambitious with food preparation. At a dock, it's no big deal, but while the boat is heeled over to almost 30 degrees and moving through waves, it becomes a challenge. My herbed potato pancakes with goat cheese and sauteed vegetables were a big success, though. - That one bottle of Drambuie and a large flask of rum is not enough for a four-day sail. - That there's nothing like sailing by the stars in the wee hours. - How to chart a course. - That a good crew makes all the difference in the world.

Tired but exhilarated. Just got back from a four-day offshore sail on the Schooner Aldebaran - really got my sea legs on this trip.

San Diego Maritime Museum makes huge mistake!
Red-Handed Jill replied to Killian's topic in Scuttlebutt
The Monterey Maritime Museum recently added a section for Hippolyte de Bouchard. Even invited Tales of the Seven Seas to promote the opening. So pirates as part of naval history isn't forgotten everywhere... And originally, the Rose was to be kitted out as a pirate ship so they could do pirate sails - guess they put the kibosh on that plan. -
Okay - here's one: "l like to play with things ... before annihilation." Black Anne - whoever correctly guesses the quote comes up with the next one.

Two couples were playing poker one evening. John accidentally dropped some cards on the floor. When he bent down under the table to pick them up, he noticed Bill's wife Sue wasn't wearing any underwear under her dress! Shocked by this, John upon trying to sit back up again, hit his head on the table and emerged red-faced. Later, John went to the kitchen to get some refreshments. Bill's wife followed and asked, "Did you see anything that you liked under there?" Surprised by her boldness, John courageously admitted that, indeed he did. She said, " Well, you can have it but it will cost you $500." After taking a minute or two to assess the financial and moral costs of this offer, John confirmed that he was interested. She told him that since her husband Bill worked Friday afternoons and John didn't, John should be at her house around 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. When Friday rolled around, John showed up at Bill's house at 2 p.m. sharp and after paying Sue the agreed sum of $500 they went to the bedroom and closed their transaction as agreed. John quickly dressed and left. As usual, Bill came home from work at 6 p.m. and upon entering the house, asked his wife abruptly. "Did John come by the house this afternoon?" With a lump in her throat, Sue answered "Why yes, he did stop by for a few minutes this afternoon." Her heart nearly skipped a beat when her husband curtly asked, "And did he give you $500?" In terror, she assumed that somehow he had found out and after mustering her best poker face, replied, "Well, yes, in fact he did give me $500." Bill, with a satisfied look on his face, surprised his wife by saying, "Good, I was hoping he did. John came by the office this morning and borrowed $500 from me. He promised me he'd stop by our house this afternoon on his way home and pay me back."

I'm really looking forward to this weekend. Starting Friday, I'm going on a four-day offshore sail on the schooner Aldebaran from the San Francisco to Monterey Bays. Seventeen hours headed south, an afternoon in Monterey and then about forty hours headed back north. Four hours on deck, four hours on call, four hours sleeping - that's the rotation. This is going to be a real adventure! And - apologies to those of you in the midwest and the east - the weather will be sunny and mild. Perfect sailing weather.

Foreign Knock-Off, Novelty, Lizard-Eye, Hologram G
Red-Handed Jill replied to William Brand's topic in Beyond Pyracy
You know you've arrived when someone starts making knock-offs of your stuff! -
Have they done any tests on your hormones? Because what you're going through sounds a lot like some of my menopausal symptoms. Not that you could be going through menopause, but any time your hormones get out of whack all sorts of interesting things happen.

A friend of mine who lives in Delta Junction, Alaska has a pet yak. Annieyak was allowed to run free around the ranch until she kept running out to meet my friend's daughter when the school bus dropped her off - she was basically like a really big puppy. She made the bus driver very nervous so they had to keep her in the back from then on. I suppose an 800 pound yak galloping full tilt at your vehicle can make a person nervous...

^ A few minutes. Misson came to visit us a few months back and we invited him to play pirate at an event. So we grabbed a few pieces from Jack's kit and Tales of the Seven Seas' loaner gear. There's a picture of him in it somewhere... < After over twenty years, it looks like I'll be knitting again. V Pass the question.

It's actually been pretty nice these past couple of days - sunny and in the 60's. A nice change after storms, wind, flooding, etc.

Aye - start 'em early! And don't forget the weapons training... They are lovely girls - they will definitely be a hit as wee pirates.

Happy Birthday!! Sounds like the celebration will last a few more days... Have fun at RF4!

If they made GAOP authentic women's clothing, you'd see the models wearing mantuas and stays... And it's not so much that these girls are so thin (although they are too thin...) but that they look so unhealthy and wan. They don't look strong enough to hold up a small knife much less a sword. If you're going to feature thin models, have them show a bit of vitality, at least.

Happy Birthday to a fellow Canadian!!

Yeah, but the "waif on heroin" look isn't selling it for me. Get some REAL women to model pirate fashions!
