  1. Ive had that vry same problem because im blending medium for my thin frame and large because im 6'3" and need the length but those sleves need to be altered and so do the armholes on the body of the coat.

If'n ye 'as a thin frame, yer should try the small size. I did an' it's still too big fer me. Oh well, I needs it big fer all the layers I'll be needin' ter wear under it. Vermont weather, y'know?

ps go up a size on the sleeves, fer they be shortish.

  2. For some traditional songs put to more modern sounding music, I'd suggest Great Big Sea. Especially their 'Rant and Roar' CD has a lot of traditional songs. There's also the piratical music groups, such as the Bilge Pumps, Corsairs, and Jolly Rogers. I know there's a few more out there, but I know and like these groups.

Ohhhh aye. Great Big Sea be amazin'. They have some great songs, that while not being blatantly piratical put yer in the mood. O' me fav'rites be French Perfume, wot be abou' a ghostly smuggler, and John Barbour, which they've done a grand job of updatin'. Oh, and Barque's on the Harbor is a good one o' theirs as well. Romantic tis. I be a sucker fer that

    Pirate Jenny is amusing too.

  3. there seems to be enough of ye to start ye own crew only ya be need'n a male cap'n ........just kidd'n lasses . I can't wait to be a prisioner on ye ship. ARRRRRR

Funny ye should say that. The prevailin' attitude durin' the golden age were tha' men should rule o'er women. (I knows this cos I be takin' British histry this semester. I'm lovin' it. Prof assigned us a book on seafarin' in general an' pirates in perticklar :) ) Bad idea. We'd all be lost on the seas or the highway wi' an overlarge ego attatched ter a hungry gut. But don't get me wrong, guys do have their uses

  4. Aye, Redwall was absolutely me favorite series of books!!!! If ye haven't read 'em deifinitely do. Awesome. Wolfy Wnech, Castaways is excellent, but don't read the sequel.

The best books fer sea and piratical action in the series are Pearls of Lutra, The Bellmaker, And Legend of luke. Ahhh. Middleschool....

  5. I don't know where I heard this, but I remember hearing or reading somewheres that the word hurricane is a contraction of the words hurry and cane, and when the Caribbean was full of sugar plantations, they'd yell Hurry the Cane when a storm was coming so it wouldn't get soggy and ruined. Again, complete hearsay this is, so don't go on it. Just thought I'd put in me tuppence

  6. fergive the romanticism, but in most poems an such ye read about the sea, piracy has been viewed as a sort o' freedom, an' the fact that pirates in the golden age were free men livin' under their own democracy makes this romanticism a smidgeon true. So, says I, escape from this lackluster modern life. Be free o' it. The dive ship is a good idea, cos ye could take people wi' ye. Or, become captain o' a sailtrainin' vessel an' teach the trainees ta be pirates. Thataways, ye'd be ensurin' the sweet OLD FASHIONED trade a future. A farfetched idea ta be sure, but hey, one can always dream...

  7. I don't find too many foreign accents difficult to understand, being as my grandparents are Brazilian and speak with accents. But being from Rhode Island, I'm told sometimes that I have a southern New England accent. Now try getting an English accent out of that. It's wicked hod.

(hard) but as to the debate between historical accuracy and sound, isn't there a happy medium between the two? I guess I just like to be understood is all.

  8. Personally, I like to wear subtle indications of a pirate. That way I can wear it to places like the PTO meeting. Only if someone looks really closely, do they figure out they have been talking to a pirate.

aye, subtlety is a very good thing.Like piratey accessories with a "normal" outfit. Can you imagine blatantly piratey clothing at a prep school? I've tried. Doesn't go over so well, even though its in dress code technically. But then it's always nice ta just break out the whole kit when situation permits...

  9. Haven't gotten around ta readin' that one yet, I should, seein' as there's rumor that Kidd stashed some stuff on the north end o' the island I live on, but I'm about ta finish Francis Bryan's The Curse of Treasure Island. Tis a sequel to Treasure Island, written in the same style as the original. very very good.

  10. It has its moments... like the other day, when I was researching a hydrographic survey done at Cape Canaveral in 1875, and I saw on the survey that the ship's surgeon and the apothecary were listed as part of the surveying team. That was neat.

    Hmmm... reminds me of...

    Chapter 2. Inigo

    Inigo was in Despair.

Hard to find on the map (this was after maps) not because cartographers didn't know of its existence, but because when they visited to measure its precise dimensions, they became so depressed they began to drink and question everything, most notably why would anyone want to be something as stupid as a cartographer? It required constant travel, no one ever knew your name, and, most of all, since wars were always changing boundaries, why bother?

    :P

    Blackjohn

Ahhh Princess Bride. Great book that. Hallo. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. And then of course there is the part in the end where Wesley asks if Inigo has ever considered piracy. :( But as to the cartography thing, it sort of reminds me of a quote from Moby Dick: It is not down in any map: True places never are.

Oh, and forgive my spouting, but there's this book called The Nautical Chart, by Arturo Perez Reverte, and it's about a mystery involving a shipwreck and a nautical chart. Being in the profession, you'd probably get a lot more out of it than I did

  11. I was wondering if anybody could help me out with Sparrow's tattoo? I need a rather large, high quality picture of it for a craft project for my Depp Obsessed 14 year old neice.

found it. If you go to Cafepress.com and go to the store "A Pirate at Heart, there are a bunch of pictures of the sparrow tattoo. Some lots bigger than others.

  12. Ifn any o' ye are goin' ter be in the neighborhood o' Rhode Island this Saturday mornin, there be somethin' goin on in Jamestown wot I think I should alert ye to. There's this race, and the rules are that ye have 2 hours te build yer vessel outta non marine materials on the town beach, then launch it and sail it on a downwind course. Tis hysterical! THere even be a prize fer worst example o' naval architecture. While it don't necessarily be piratical, tis all abou' creativity, so's ye can make it as piratical as ye want....

  13. I'm nearly finished with my coat. Just have to sew on the rest of the buttons and set the hem. Fabric's nice, I got some italian wool on major clearance at Fabric Place, so I'm happy (need the coat to keep warm as well as look good) I must say though, that having finished the bulk of the coat, it's bleedin' huge! and I sewed the extra small. I tried it on, looks like a choir robe! But then, so do most things on me. But whatever, it has a nice drape to it. If anyone's looking for buttons, I got mine at Walmart. THey have a nice assortment of antique looking metal buttons

  14. Dances down the beach..Whee Storms a comin..Anyone up for a little party..Hurricane parties are the best..ok this is weird but I LOVE storms..just something in the air that seems to energize me

Aye. Storms be a powerful thing. In more ways than one. Last hurricane we had up RI way was Bob. I were a wee thing o' about five then, but I remember very well. Loved it. Since then we 'ad a few close calls. Mostly though we just gets a strongish southerly wind some rain, an' a tropical dampness wot makes yer hair curl. Not that mine needs it B) But truly there's sommat magical an' energisin abou' storms. Methinks tis all the anticipation.
