Common. Heh. I'll play along. Wool coat lined with wool... close to 10 years old... never been cleaned nor washed... sun-faded with a hole or two... shoes, the same... though you can't tell from this picture... straight-lasted shoes that have been worn for so long you'd never know they were straights, and the leather has finally worn through in one spot... long linen waistcoat lined with linen... wool breeches... wool stockings... two pistols, a sword and a blunderbuss... pretty standard for the common pirate... the best part is the linen shirt... washed once a year at best... it has blood stains on it... someone else's... from a sword fight. You can poo-poo my wig and sash if you like, but I'm a Pirate, not a common sailor! It's probably worth noting I have done pretty much anything attributable to a pirate while in these clothes, be that Hollywood or historical (with the exception of swinging between ships on a line or sliding down a sail using a knife) and have never really found any of those to be particularly difficult to do because of the clothes.

What word Tom? Any progress? Just got back from another big walk around the block. Dang, talk about drastic change in the weather. It's so nice outside, I wanted to walk straight back to my car and head home and lay out on the hammock with a rum punch in hand.
-
When I heard it was canceled I was none too happy either. Then again, I was none too happy when they killed Casear off at the end of season 1!
-
Well, if you come to the Lockhouse in November, bring plenty of soap!!!
-
Maybe if we get them drunk first... I'll bring rum. LOTS of rum!
-
But let's face it, we'd like a real challenge, and that would be getting our pirates to shave! What I'd really like to do is bring a shaving bowl and razor to the Lockhouse and have mass shavings!
-
C'mon now, don't get me started... Tell ya what, I'll grow one if you grow one!
-
Yep. Felt like doing something different. Haha... maybe come November I'll wear my red ribbon special!

The Cecil County militia was this year played by the Baltimore Rangers, the Maritime Regiment of Foot, some Pirate Brethren turncoats, and was commanded brilliantly by Joe Marek of Merrick's Privateers.
-
No, you all travel quite aways, bringing yourselves is fine with me. Another pic from the final battle... we were ambushed by the militia on the way into town. After that, the scenario became a rolling gunfight. Hence, my only having two cartridges left.
-
Yes, and the weather will be nicer too. The weather wasn't too bad, considering it was 90ish with very low humidity. I did all but the final battle in full kit. For the last, I stripped down a bit. "Only two cartridges left? Better make them count!"

Any of you watch Rome? I'd psyched because I missed season 2, and it's coming out on dvd next month! Woooo! It's a great show. Great for it's human drama, not so much for its sticking to historical accuracy, but hey, it's tv, so I'm expecting entertainment, not history. As it goes, I believe it still hits pretty close to the history mark. And... it has one of the single most bloody scenes I have ever seen on the small screen! Yow! Good stuff. Neat characters. Believable storyline. Two thumbs up.

Whoa! Goddangawfully hot for a big walk around a city block, but hey, I could use the exercise!
-
I'll drink to that. Oh hey look, a tin cup full of Gosling's just happens to be sitting right here next to me! How fortunate! Skoal!

Mea culpa. August 4th. A Saturday. One day event. http://colonialplantation.org/
-
As for where will we be next... Port Deposit for a timeline event/Captain John Smith 400 celebration. The next BIG event, the colonial plantation at Ridley Creek PA on August 8. I'm hoping this one is going to be a whopper of an event!

Over 1000. Seriously, it could have been less, I don't know. But I do know this, the number of spectators we had for any one battle this time around equaled the entire turnout from last time around. Fortunately, the site's manager snapped some good shots. For those of you who don't frequent our mail list or forum, here are a couple of pics... http://images25.fotki.com/v906/photos/1/11....jpg?1183867707 http://images25.fotki.com/v908/photos/1/11....jpg?1183869239 http://images25.fotki.com/v906/photos/1/11....jpg?1183870108 http://images25.fotki.com/v897/photos/1/11....jpg?1183872559 http://images26.fotki.com/v912/photos/1/11....jpg?1183868667

Interesting observation. Pushing a lawnmower is great exercise for legs and arms. Fencing, on the other hand, is really great for the upper legs, especially the rear facing portion of the upper legs.

I find myself slightly surprised to say this, but today's Lockhouse event was the best pirate event my group has ever done! More pirates than ever before, more govt forces than ever before, more public than ever before... a tremendous turnout by the public, in fact. The organizer estimated over 1000! Crikey! Because of the turnout, we did more battles than ever before. Four gunfights during the course of the day, in between those, fencing, fencing, fencing. And... I was so busy, I didn't find time to snap one single pic! Me... the shutterbug! Not one pic! But I think some other folks snapped a few. If I find any, I'll pass them along. And now, to bed. Hopefully it won't spin too much from the consumption of rum. ps - fwiw, during events I try to stick to the no camera rule, cameras being one of those things that "bursts the bubble."

Relatively new footbridge, date on the side read 2002. Practically no arch to it. I remember once in Scouts we crossed this really scary railroad bridge on foot. The planks were rotten, and the river below was visible at practically every other step!

Corona lifts? Sounds like a good exercise to me! How many reps do you do? How many sets? Dang, I'm exhausted. Doing pirate reenacting events is great exercise. Every muscle in my body hurts!
-
No, not really. If there is a center of the historical pirate reenacting universe, it would be right here in Baltimore. Now, that being said, the MR Renfaire has a huge "fantasy" pirate following that may have some loose connections to the SCA or something. Sometimes folk from that crowd show up here to promote things, so keep a weather eye out. And if anything crosses my horizon I'll point it out to you.

Wise choice. Season 3 takes some very interesting paths... you'll do a double take. I'm savoring it, about half way through right now, watching the easy episodes after the big cliffhanger tie-em-ups.

Went on a great big adventure with the kids this afternoon. Found a bridge that crosses the river and walked the last a mile and a half with an alternating kid on my shoulder they were so tired.
