That's great, Maria - downward facing scurvy dog... Other skill for a pirate... I think climbing has got to be one - climbing all the ropes and masts etc. And fighting skills, obviously, would never go astray. And... cunning...

I did like Barbossa, but you can't really say he was the better pirate because let's face it, he did commit mutiny. They both crappy pirates. Elizabeth was probably the best pirate of all of them. But Pearl is right anyway. As for Barbossa - I actually like his character wuite a lot. And do you know what, I love his pants! I want those pants! But I love Sparrow equally if not more, and I also (you guys are probably going to gag at this) love Norrington. He's cool! Will is probably my least favourite of the four main males (aside from Swann, does he count?)

Dress him up in pink pyjamas Give him brown water and tell him it's rum Steal his pants and hoist them up the main mast Sing a song about him for half an hour Bash him on the head with a ten-pound mallet Slap him round the face with a slimy mullet Use him for bait when you're fishing for shark Flick him on the forehead and call him a loser That's all I can think of right now. But it could just go on and on couldn't it? this is a fun game!

I play the violin, percussion, and I sing. I stopped practising my violin for ages and I recently got a beginner's book and started to relearn a whole bunch of stuff. And guess what I found in my vioin book? Blow the Man Down! (different version from the one I know, but still). I'd love to learn some other shanties too, when I get better and have more time to practise.

That, me mate, has to be one of the strangest things I've ever read. On the other hand, it's true! And on yet another hand, it sounds like a pyrate inspiration/self-help book. ...I wonder if we could write one of those... That's what I thought when I read it too I reckon we should have acrack at that self help book. We could call it "Finding Your Inner Arrr: The Seven Secrets of a Succesful Pirate." In summary: 1: Want treasure 2: Look for treasure 3: Get treasure 4: Fight to keep treasure from being stolen 5: Spend treasure 6: Enjoy the goods and services you exchanged for your treasure 7: Say "Arrr" And then we could turn the steps into deeply significant symbols of the spirit, as in step one, "want treasure" can be translated as: "To be truly and deeply happy, you must desire to find the treasure within you. Everyone has a wonderful core within themselves which only needs dedication and strength of spirit to be released in the form of a rich and glorious "Arr". The key to finding your inner treasure is to desire it more than anything on earth as many wise and revered gurus/prophets have also said etc etc..." And you can make millions. Sorry I'm getting a little cynical here... I don't hold much truck with self help books... no offence to anyone who does.

What kind o' pirate am I that don't like fightin'? I'm a woman - ain't it obvious? I manipulate, scheme and connive to get my way...

Ordinarily I don't like to fight... but I put daggers because... I don't know I suppose they seem a little more discrete. You can hide them in your boot. and hold them in your teeth whilst climbing the rigging (e.g. Israel Hans in Treasure Island)... versatile.

I like Long Angus, and Bob the Longboat. You could also name it Mannann Mac Lir, who I believe is the Irish god of the sea? (correct me if I'm wrong please)

Ethan is a nice name, I don't know what it is about it, but I really like it.

Oh... how horrible and scarey. Our computer got blown up once by my mum... she flicked the switch at the back that changed the voltage intake ability while she was trying to turn it on Anyway glad to see you're back, and good luck figuring out all the new stuff you "is that smoke" comment reminds of a funny story (scarey at the time). I travelled across Australia in a bus at the end of last year with a group of other uni students. The bus was really dodgy and old, and while we were in the middle of nowhere, everyone started smelling this burning rubber smell, so we all started saying "is that smoke? is that smoke?" Then someone said "Hey there's smoke coming past the window on this side." and then someone else said "yeah and flames" and everyone went "oh crap" Turns out the front left hand tyre had deflated and the wheel had been scraping along the gravel (this also meant that the fire was right at the door to the bus - remember in Australia the steering wheel is on the right). Very alarming at the time, but quite funny to look back on.

*screams* Congratulations!!!! *running hug* You HAVE to buy him a tri-corner hat or I'll never forgive you! Do you have a name for him yet? *jumps up and down* that's soooooo exciting!!! I love it when people have kids!

Actually just sailing I got a sponsorship to go on the Leeuwin!! (if you have no clue as to what that is, go here: www.leeuwin.com ) It's a twelve-day voyage from Dampier to Exmouth both of which are in WA, and we're going through the Ningaloo reef (the not-quite-as-famous-a-the-great-barrier-reef-but-still-pretty-famous Australian reef.) woot! I get to be a real pirate (I thought of inciting the crew to mutiny and sailing to the Caribbean, but then I realised I'd get caught ridiculously quickly what with these newfangled engine-powered boat and men with guns, so I figure I'll be polite) It's in June-July I haven't been in here for ages! Sorry everyone, I'll try to come in more often. Saskia

Yep.... definately one of the best movies of all time. The book is good too - I've only heard extracts though. It's on my "to read" list. Making into a play is a fantastic idea! Good luck with that I'm sure it'll be awesome.

Ach... of course Depp can act circles around Penn. He's a fantastic actor. How many Oscars has he ever won anyway? I don't follow these things, but my impression is he hasn't gotten as many as he deserves.

Wow. So all from North America except me huh... Except maybe Mucky Pete... I don't know where Blighty is, is it in the US? Sevenseas - I was up around that area a couple of years ago! I have a second cousin in Santa Cruz who I was visitng, we went and saw the redwoods. We stopped in a nearby town, but it wasn't Boulder Creek I don't think. I don't remember where it was anymore...

I'm an Aussie. How about you guys. I realise most of us are from the US but I wanted to find out how many were from different places.
