  1. I can vouch for adjacent barrels setting others off. My double barrel pistol ( Middlesex) does that all the time, to the point where I don't prime the second barrel until the first is fired off. Oddly my double barrel flinter flowling piece never does it.

That QA on the top looks right good to me!

Does the off side hammer fall or is it actualy being set off flash from the other pan? If the hammer is falling it might be that you have a sear bar that is a little long and being tripped by the trigger(I had double twelve gauge that did that). Just being nosey!!!!

  2. Wicked cool!!! That individual has a lot of tallent. As to the practice when I was a lad we used pieces of empty bleach bottle for practice before we transitioned to bone, horn or antler.

  3. Maser Alan and I built a rope making machine it only does three strand in it's state but the next one will be a gear driven 4:1 ratio six strand machine. I was planning to make the new line from sisal binder twine either green or white mabee even striped who knows!!!!!

  4. Well master Alan and I have discussed it and would like to attend your event if you would have us. Do you have a need of any particular display? Can we get a little room to swing our hammocs? Should I bring materials for fancy knotting? Or would a simple demonstration of general knot tying aboard ship be more in line with the spirit of this event?

  5. I bought a finished oilcloth watch coat from tent smiths along time ago. If memory serves they offered two types one was open fronted and the other was a pull over. As a testimonial I can tell you that I have used mine for a long time and have just put on the first patch this year. My equipment gets VERY HARD USE, the only change I had to make was the addition of a deep hood because turkey season can be wet. The sleeves are also large enough to stuff the butt end of my fusil passed the lock inside the sleeve should the weather be foul enough to warrent it.

  6. You might want to contact Larry Callahan and order a bullet mold from him dirrect he does a superior job and offers an extremely good product that he backs up with his name and reputation. His phone number is (636)475-7444. IF YOU GET THE MACHINE LEAVE A MESSAGE HE WILL CALL YOU BACK. If the mold you want is a "standard" caliber they are 50.00 if it a "custom" order they are 70.00, because he has to make a custom cherry to make the mold. You can also order the mols finish in blued or browned. I believe you can't go wrong dealing with him and it would money well spent, I know I do.

  7. started as a lark, a way to spend some time with my son at a event close to home, stl. pirate fest. that's where it all went side ways for me. now my friends, rev war, think i am "the" knot nut. and my son still likes to hang out with his dad even if he does still play dress up and sword fight with his friends.

  8. I us a dexter russel "hammer knife" out of the McMaster Carr catalog they are cheap and efective, I haven't even broken one yet, I beat mine thru some heavy line with no ill effect. They are also one one of the few "sheeps foot patterns" that comes in a high carbon steel blades, they do sharpen extremely well!!!!!!! BUT THAT'S JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION.

  9. You are most welcome. It was a good trade for the efforts of all your lads who lent a hand to set up tents, cook food and help us feel welcome at an event very new to many of us. If there's interest, I can make up a nice Mercury cookbook and distribute it as a pdf.

William my wife says I would be interested in the pdf cook book would you like submissions for said file?

  10. Hey, it is the bosun's mate here. Bosun Carl has been very busy and I can wait no longer to express my deepest and most heartfelt gratefulness for the generosity of your photo sharing and work done to aquire the newspaper articles! It has been a very long time since I had so much fun looking at photos of events the guys have been too! They are not diligent at taking photos! Professor Death if you REALY want a glass horn I might be willing to part with one P.M. me, it will have to be clear instead of the amber or green.

Mistress Thecher master A.J. would like me to plead for the MONSTER COOKIE recipe. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (his words).

  12. I arrived without incident, though my luggage was delayed for up to an hour. That had me a little nervous, what with so many one of a kind items tucked into my suit case. Of course the flag came with me all of the way and garnered a few inquisitive looks.

I'm at Janet and John's house now, uploading some files from home for printing tomorrow. John is making hard tack. The weather is warm and stormy.

Both cameras arrived safely and I'm prepared to shoot the whole event. Time permitting. See you all there.

    Hello, kind sir,

This would be the bride of bosun Carl. I just wanted to make a request of you all that made it to the encampment this weekend. I used to get to attend the events and miss them deeply, so I beg photos from anyone who will share. Therefore your comments about cameras and such have led to this post. I am a scrapbook artist and try to make scrapbooks of the boys endeavors and through that get to be a part. Could you please include me in any picture sharing that goes on within the group! I would be ever so grateful and when you meet again, you would be able to see the resulting pages! I thank you for your time, hope you have a safe return home and had a delightful weekend!

    The "bosun's mate"

    Cheri
