  1. Well, me lady and I went test driving vehicles yesterday and I have to say we were very impressed with the mini cooper. I especially liked the interior. It was very "sky captain and the world of tomorrow" to me. Almost steamy, I would say... and many of us pyrate types are known to get a bit steamy from time to time

  2. ok, so i'm child of the 70's and I remember fondly my first GI Joe 12" action figure. The ones will real fuzz on his head and face.

in the 80's I thought the new line of Joe figures were a bit lame but I did get sucked into the cartoon, possibly out of sheer nostalgia.

So... last night I saw the opening of the movie

This shows a fledgling Cobra organization before it was even called Cobra and their tactics for obtaining very very horrible weapons is outright... piracy.

Indeed, they do right by every mother's son what calls himself a pirate.

The movie has one up on the cartoon in that Cobra is in no way buffoonish or stupid. They are smart, crafty, and full on bad-assed.

I giggled with glee through the entire movie.

Perhaps this topic should be in "beyond piracy" but I feel the bad guys of the movie could very easily have been flying Jolly Rogers.

  3. I started on the Accension Trillogy by Gaelen Foley but gave up half way through the first book.

The main pirate hero was well, buggered if I can remember what color his eyes were, I believe it did state it several times

the love scenes were right steamy but few and far between.

and it was set in the mediterranean, with much hoo-ha about italian bloodlines and lineage and that's what finally killed it for me

  4. "I have a high art. I wound with cruelty those that wound me" - not sure, saw it in a movie

"The only reason people sleep peacefully at night is because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf" - George Orwell

    and my personal favorite :

"DEATH! DEATH! DEATH TO ALL WHO OPPOSE US"! - the movie Heavy Metal

  5. Help!

I came across a site that had tie on bustle skirts out of taffeta that were pin-tucked in the back and I forgot to bookmark the site.

If anyone can find this for me I'd appreciate it.

I wasn't going to get into this stuff, but apparently my friend/sales partner is doing Steampunk on Sunday of the Pyrate Daze (Pyrate Daze) event in Sept. (it's suppose to be Steampunk day) so I decided to go along with it.

dresslikeapirate.com has a steampunk section with some stuff like that

  6. Brotherhood of the Wolf (mid 1700s, neat stuff, but be prepared to suspend your disbelief)

seriously... come on, it's Don "The Iron Chef Dragon" Wilson. It's a Kung Fu movie thinly disguised as a European period piece. In spite of that... I completely enjoyed it ^^

  7. I'm sure most of us are familiar with this type of hat:

    Flat-cap.jpg

what many may not know is this style actually dates back to the 14th Century

    From Wikipedia:

The style can be traced back to 14th century Britain and Ireland, when it was more likely to be called a 'bonnet', which term was replaced, except in Scotland, by cap before about 1700.[1] When Irish and English immigrants came to America they brought the flat cap with them.

A 1571 Act of Parliament to stimulate domestic wool consumption and general trade decreed that on Sundays and holidays that all males over 6 years of age, except for the nobility and persons of degree, were to wear caps of wool manufacture on force of a fine (3/4d (pence) per day). The Bill was not repealed until 1597, though by this time, the flat cap had become firmly entrenched in English psyche as a recognized mark of a non-noble subject; be it a burgher, a tradesman, or apprentice. The style survives as the Tudor bonnet in some styles of academic dress.

anyways, considering this style of hat has been around so long, is there an evidence of it being worn amongst pirates?

  8. Most of the famous historical pirates we know hunted the waters of the Caribbean and the Atlantic Coast of the U.S.

There is also mention of Asian pirates and a stray Irish Queen or two *grin*

But what about the Pacific coast of the U.S. and points south? Are there any famous Californian or Mexican pirates? What about between the mainland and Hawaii?

  9. Thank you with all!!!rolleyes.gif

Afflicted for my English, I use a translator, I hope to be understood by all…

Well, Friend, your translator works well enough to be understood. So welcome!
